In another victory for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, 3 terrorists part of Lashkar-e-Taiba ranks were killed in Shopian district on 20 December 2022.
Two of the dead terrorists were identified as Lateef Lone of Shopian, and Umer Nazir of Anantnag, according to police. While Lateef Lone was allegedly involved in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit P Krishna Bhat, Umer Nazir allegedly had a hand in the murder of T Bahadur Thapa of Nepal.

Around 10 Kashmiri Pandit families are claimed to have left their village, Choudharygund, in Shopian out of fear and moved to Jammu.

The Congress party is trying to corner the Bharatiya Janata Party over one of the saffron party's core issues - the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. The Congress on 27 October 2022 cited claims of a fresh exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from south Kashmir's Shopian district.
Amid a spate of targeted killing of civilians by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, around 10 Kashmiri Pandit families are claimed to have left their village, Choudharygund, in Shopian out of fear and moved to Jammu. Members of the minority community, who have since been camping in Jammu, ruled out any plan to return to the Valley.
However, authorities in Shopian have contested claims of an exodus, saying that Kashmiri Pandits have not been leaving en masse.
The Opposition Congress party demanded that the Narendra Modi government release a white paper on the plight of the minority community during its eight-year rule.
Congress also sought an apology from the Modi administration for being unable to stop targeted killings by terrorists. The party said that there have been 30 targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits between January and October 2022.

Officials said that gunmen barged in to the rented accommodation of Manish Kumar and Ram Sagar in Hermain village and shot at them while they were in their sleep.

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Baskuchan area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian, on Sunday, said police. 
"Encounter has started in the Baskuchan area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," tweeted Jammu and Kashmir Police. Further details are awaited. Earlier on Friday, two local terrorists linked with the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-eMohammed (JeM) were killed after an encounter in Baramulla. 
Jammu and Kashmir Police had gotten intelligence input on the presence of terrorists in Yedipora village in the Pattan area of District Baramulla. A joint cordon-and-search operation was launched by police, Army and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in the area.
During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the security forces which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.

The call for exodus by KPSS comes after a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by militants in the valley on Tuesday while his brother was admitted to a hospital in critical condition. 
Just a couple of days ago, a migrant was killed in Bandipora district of South Kashmir. 
In the past 8 months this year, over 25 non-muslim locals and migrants have been gunned down in South Kashmir.
In wake of the attacks, Kashmiri Pandits in different parts of the valley continue to stage protests against targeted killings. 
The protest began on May 13,2022 after Rahul Bhat, a government employee was slained by terrorists. However, despite the ongoing protests and demands for relocation, there seem to be no end to the the brutal killings of Hindus in South Kashmir. 
"With another deadly attack on Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir, the terrorists have made it clear that they are going to kill all the Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir valley," KPSS chief Sanjay Tickoo said in a statement released post Tuesday’s attack. 
Furthermore, according to Tickoo, Tuesday's  victim had approached senior officials to move them to safer places in view of the intelligence inputs. 
"It is ironic that the officials told them that they have to live in their villages. What is the deal here? They have inputs about possible attacks and yet they do not secure us," he said.
Tickoo wondered about the intent of the militants in targeting the Kashmiri Pandits.
"Why did they not strike during the Independence Day parade? Why was there no attack on Amarnath yatra? How come tourists are safe in Kashmir but Kashmiri Pandits are being targeted?" he asked.
Asked about the impact of his call for the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits, Tickoo said he was ready to face it.
"The government can book me under the Public Safety Act (PSA)," he added.

Three terrorists and a policeman were killed in two separate encounters in Budgam and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Friday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Zanigam village in the Beerwah area of Budgam district following information about the presence of militants there. Officials said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire towards security forces' positions.
