Kanpur-based perfume maker Piyush Jain, whose premises were raided by central agencies, has been arrested on charges of tax evasion, a senior official said.
Jain last week shot into headlines after pictures of a raid at his premises showing officials counting heaps of currency notes with note counting machines went viral recently.
PTI has reported that over 250 crore in cash were seized during the raids apart from gold and silver. Unaccounted sandalwood oil, perfumes worth crores have also been seized from Jain's factory, reports said.

Tax officials on Thursday raided Kanpur-based perfume trader Piyush Jain and reports said that IT officials recovered a whopping 150 crores of unaccounted wealth in cash.
Reports added that bundles of cash were found stuffed in cartons and wardrobes at Jain's house.
Piyush Jain is close to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and his brother is a Samajwadi Party leader.
Jain is the same person,who had recently launched Samajwadi Perfume, which was unveiled by Akhilesh Yadav.
Raids were also conducted at various offices of Jain across Mumbai, UP and Gujarat, reports said.
Jain hails from UP's Kannauj and has several companies and show rooms. He also reportedly have businesses in Middle East.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday asserted that the people wearing red caps, a trademark headgear of his party members, are “red alerts” also for the BJP as they will oust it from the power in the next UP assembly polls.
Yadav made the retort soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a dig at the Samajwadi Party, said in Gorakhpur that those wearing red caps are after red beacon and are a red alert to Uttar Pradesh.
Reacting to Prime Minister Modi’s dig at his party, Akhilesh too, in a tweet in Hindi, listed some “red alerts for the BJP”.
“For the BJP, there is a red alert of inflation, of unemployment, of the bad plight of farmers and labourers, of Hathras and Lakhimpur Kheri (incidents) of the oppression of women and youths, of a destroyed education system, business and health, besides the red cap, which will oust the BJP from power,” said former UP chief minister in his tweet.
"There will be an 'inquilab' (revolution) of red and change in 2022," he added.
The Samajwadi Party also came out with a song exalting their 'laal topi' to counter the PM's barbs.
Addressing a public meeting in Gorakhpur earlier after dedicating to the country three megaprojects, including an AIIMS and a fertiliser plant, Modi said, "Today, the entire UP very well knows that those wearing red caps are concerned about red beacon ('laal batti') and they are not bothered about your pain and sorrows." "The red cap people want the power to commit scams, fill their coffers, indulge in illegal grabbing (of resources) and to give complete freedom to the mafia," he said.
"The red cap people want to form the government to show favour to terrorists and to free them from jail. Hence, you should remember that those wearing red caps are red alert for UP, in other words, alarm bells," Modi said.

Akhilesh Yadav's umbrella alliance against the BJP is likely to grow bigger. The Aam Aadmi Party that is planning make its political debut in UP elections next year has stated alliance talks with the Samajwadi Party.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday met SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to discuss the pre-poll alliance. There have been meetings between the two in the past but the talk of a possible alliance was kept under the wraps.
“We have started the talks today. Our primary goal is to defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, which is suffering under the misrule of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Akhilesh Yadav is in talks with many parties and our meeting today is also a step in that direction,” Singh said after the meeting.
He however added that there were no talks on seat-sharing yet.
The AAP-SP meeting came a day after Akhilesh Yadav sealed alliance with Jayant Chaudhary of the RLD. The seat-sharing deal with the RLD is yet to be made public.
The SP has already sealed an alliance with Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party — a BJP ally in the 2017 polls. Along with SBSP, the Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha, a grouping of smaller parties headed by Rajbhar, will be part of the SP-led alliance.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was facilitated and presented with a 83 kg laddoo by the party cadres in the presence of his son and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The party's show of strength and unity was, however, marred by the absence of Mulayam's younger brother Shivpal Yadav, who has floated his own political party over differences with Akhilesh.
Shivpal held parallel birthday celebrations for Mulayam at the leader's hometown Saifai by organising a dangal. Mulayam Singh had set out to be a wrestler before joining politics.
Akhilesh Yadav had stated that he would be joining hands with his uncle on the birthday of the party founder. He had said he would give all respect to Shivpal with whose party he would enter into an alliance for the upcoming assembly elections.

BJP, SP, BSP and Congress are jostling in the political mahakumbh. On the face of it appears to be a 4-corner fight. But is the 2022 UP election going to be a bipolar contest between the BJP and the SP? Will Mayawati's BSP and Priyanka-driven Congress just be also-rans after the votes are cast?
A recent survey by C-voter has predicted a return for the Yogi sarkaar, but with a reduced number- the saffron party which won a landslide with 312 seats in 2017, is predicted to win 213 to 221 seats -a net loss of about a 100 seats. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party, which won just 48 seats in 2017, is likely to get between 152 and 160 seats, a big jump but still about 60 seats behind the BJP.
The survey has bad news for the BSP and the Congress as both the parties are likely to repeat the dismal 2017 show.A look at the vote share in 2017 and the likely change also tells a story.In 2017, BJP got 40% votes; the party is predicted to retain it and get about 41% votes this time around, according to the C-voter survey. Whereas the SP, which got 22% votes last time, is likely to increase its vote share to about 31% in 2022. The BSP is predicted to come down from 22% in 2017 to 15%. The BSP's loss is likely to be the SP's gain. 
So with the BJP holding on to its vote share and SP making gains with the ant-BJP vote, it's likely that the poll battle will be majorly between the Lotus and the Cycle.According to the C-voter survey, 48% of respondents ranked Yogi's 5 years as good governance, while 45% said that Akhilesh did a better job as CM between 2012 and 2017. This number also pitches Akhilesh and Yogi in a direct contest for the hot seat.It's also interesting to see how SP's graph has moved up in the November survey by C-voter from the one done in October. In October the survey showed 241 to 249 seats for the BJP and 130 to 138 seats for the SP. In a month, Akhilesh has climbed about 30 seats. It's also clear from the BJP's campaign strategy till now that it sees Akhilesh as the main challenger. Thus, direct attacks on the SP from the BJP camp, PM Modi downwards.Enter polarisation. The rising SP stock has seen BJP's attempt to keep the campaign in its comfort zone of 'Hindu-Muslim' narrative. The state's 20% Muslim vote plays a role here. In a likely bipolar contest, the Muslim vote will majorly go to the SP. Thus the BJP attempt at painting SP as a pro-Muslim party. With the tried and tested rhetoric around Kabristan, Jinnah and the alleged exodus of Hindus, the BJP has pulled out its polarisation arsenal in full force.Recently Yogi visited the families in Western UP's Kairana who had allegedly fled out of fear and have now returned. It's seen as an attempt to keep the Jat-Muslim divide that was created in 2013, which now seems to be bridging in the wake of the farmers agitation and Modi govt's handling of the protests.

The Samajwadi Party on Sunday expressed apprehension that the three contentious farm laws will be brought again after the 2022 assembly elections, citing the statements made by Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra and BJP MP from Unnao Sakshi Maharaj on them. Both Mishra and Maharaj told reporters on Saturday that the laws can be brought again, if needed On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre will repeal the three farm laws after the nearly year-long agitation by a section of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Farmer leaders said the protesters will stay put at border areas of Delhi until the Centre formally repeals these laws in Parliament and indicated their stir for a statutory guarantee of MSP and withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill will continue.
In a tweet in Hindi, the Samajwadi Party charged, "It is absolutely clear that their heart is not clean, and after the elections, the bills will be brought again. Occupying the constitutional posts, Governor of Rajasthan Kalraj Mishra and BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj have said that the BJP government may bring the bill for farm laws." "This is the truth of those tendering false apologies to farmers. The farmers will bring a change in 2022," the SP said in the tweet.
Mishra on Saturday said in Bhadohi that efforts were made to make the farmers understand the provisions of the farm laws, and positive aspects, but the farmers were demanding the withdrawal of the three farm laws and were protesting against them. Eventually, the government felt that the laws be withdrawn, and if there is a need to make the laws again, it will be done.
"The farmers were continuously demanding that the farm laws be withdrawn, and it was done in a very civilised manner. It is a good step and appropriate decision," Mishra said.
Speaking to reporters in Unnao on Saturday, BJP MP Maharaj said, "Bills are made and repealed. They will come again, and will be made again. It hardly takes any time (Bills to bante rehte hai, bigarhte rehte hai...vaapas aajaayenge, dobaaraa ban jaayenge...koi der nahi lagtee hai). But, I would thank Modiji that he displayed a big heart, and he chose the Nation over the laws. And those whose intentions were wrong, those who had raised slogans of Pakistan zindaabaad and Khalistan zindabad, they have got a befitting reply." He also categorically stated that there is no connection between the announcement of repealing of the farm laws with the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2022.
"In the UP 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP will cross the 300 mark in the (403-member) UP Legislative Assembly. In India, there is no substitute of (Prime Minister) Modi and (UP Chief Minister) Yogi Adityanath. Their magic will stay," he said.

Earlier this month in an interview to PTI, the former UP CM had ruled out contesting polls, but now in an interview to NDTV, Akhilesh seemed to leave the option open.
Akhilesh Yadav told NDTV on Wednesday that he would contest Assembly&nbsp;election only "if the party wants". On his part, the young leader maintained, the priority was to see the ruling BJP "wiped out".
He added that his earlier statement on not contesting was "twisted".
Akhilesh Yadav, who held a massive rally on the newly-inaugurated&nbsp;Purvanchal Expressway in Eastern UP's Ghazipur, is an MP from Azamgarh currently. HE has not contested Assembly polls in the past.
Akhilesh has been engaged in a bitter war of words with the BJP over the new Purvanchal Expressway. He has accused the ruling party of credit stealing as the project was conceived and started during his regime.

Akhilesh Yadav told NDTV on Wednesday that he would contest Assembly&nbsp;election only "if the party wants". On his part, the young leader maintained, the priority was to see the ruling BJP "wiped out".

He added that his earlier statement on not contesting was "twisted".
Akhilesh Yadav, who held a massive rally on the newly-inaugurated&nbsp;Purvanchal Expressway in Eastern UP's Ghazipur, is an MP from Azamgarh currently. HE has not contested Assembly polls in the past.
Akhilesh has been engaged in a bitter war of words with the BJP over the new Purvanchal Expressway. He has accused the ruling party of credit stealing as the project was conceived and started during his regime.

The case was registered on the complaint of BJP&nbsp;leader Akash&nbsp;Saxena&nbsp;in the Civil Line police station of UP's&nbsp;Rampur&nbsp;district.
In his complaint, Saxena&nbsp;alleged that Qureshi, who was a senior congress party member, had compared the Chief Minister to a "blood-sucking demon" and went on to add that such&nbsp;remarks can create tension between 2 communities and lead to unrest in society.
The complaint came after&nbsp;Qureshi, the former governor of Mizoram,&nbsp;visited SP leader Azam&nbsp;Khan's wife Tanzeen&nbsp;Fatima at her residence on Sunday. Later, while addressing media, the 81-year-old&nbsp;politician called the UP government a 'devil' in reference to cases filed against Azam&nbsp;Khan.&nbsp;
