The Sports Authority of India (SAI) wants Olympic-medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia to attend the trials for the World championships or provide fitness certificate if he wants exemption from this week's exercise in Patiala.
Punia is planning to skip the trials for the World Championships on August 25 and 26 and instead wants to train at a foreign location to prepare for the Asian Games in Hangzhou beginning September 23.
Bajrang, one of six wrestlers to sit in protest at the Jantar Mantar against outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and Commonwealth Games gold-medal winner Deepak Punia (86khg) are not keen to compete in the World Championships in Belgrade from September 16, and instead want to undergo long training stints to prepare of the Asian Games.
While Bajrang has sent a proposal to train in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan (August 21-September 28), Deepak, on the other hand, wants to train in Khasavyurt (Russia) for five weeks (August 23 to September 28) to prepare for the Asian Games.
"Yes, we have asked Bajrang why he is skipping the Worlds trials. He said he wants to prepare for Asian Games and train abroad till then. But we asked him to appear for the trials on August 25 and 26 and leave for training camp abroad on August 27," a SAI official told PTI on condition of anonymity on Monday.
The World Championships is the first qualification tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and SAI is unhappy that two of the country's top wrestlers want to skip the trials and the showpiece event.
While Bajrang, the 65kg grappler, who won the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze, has also demanded physiotherapist Anuj Gupta, personal coach Sujeet Maan, strength and conditioning expert Kaazi Kiron Mustafa Hasan and sparring partner Jitender Kinha to accompany him, Deepak has requested the services of coach Kamal Malikov and physiotherapist Shubham Gupta for the training stints.
SAI wants the two wrestlers to compete in the Worlds trials to first prove their fitness and then is willing to consider their training proposal abroad after that.
"We have also asked him (Bajrang) to provide his fitness certificate if he has to skip the trials altogether. We have also received his request for his support staff. The matter is with MOC (Mission Olympic Cell) right now and they will take a call after getting due reply from Bajrang," said the SAI source.
Bajrang and his sparring partner Kinha had recently returned from Kyrgyzstan following a long training stint.
The ace wrestler, along with Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik had requested foreign training stints to get back into competitive shape as they had been sitting for nearly two months at Jantar Mantar protesting against Brij Bhushan.
All the six wrestlers who had protested at Jantar Mantar had earlier been exempted from appearing in the trials for the Asian Games on July 22-23, leading to a massive opposition from fellow wrestlers, who opposed the special treatment being given to them.

The Women National Wrestling Coaching camp, which was due to start in Lucknow on January 18, has also been cancelled.

On Wednesday, during a protest at Jantar Mantar, India's Olympic and CWG medallists levelled serious charges against the Wrestling Federation of India President &amp; coaches.
The likes of Vinesh Phogat &amp; Sakshi Malik among several others, alleged <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/others-sports/watch-startling-revelation-by-vinesh-phogat-and-sakshi-malik-rocked-indian-wrestling-arena-1674058634777">WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh sexually harassed women wrestlers</a>. The wrestlers further alleged <a href="https://www.editorji.com/sports-news/others-sports/watch-will-not-compete-in-any-international-competition-until-wfi-president-is-removed-bajrang-punia-1674060790777">mismanagement of funds by the federation</a>.
Taking the allegations seriously, the Sports Ministry gave WFI 3 days to furnish a response, failing which the Ministry will initiate action against the federation.

The UP-based athlete had to give up on his initial dreams of winning marathons after he suffered an injury in his knee. It was only a matter of time before Babu found his calling in racewalking.Since 2018, Babu, a class 7 dropout who comes from a very humble background has supported himself by doing odd jobs like digging up the soil through various village projects under MNREGA and working as a waiter in Varanasi. He, however, hated that job and he felt that digging up the soil was better than being a waiter. 'People don’t treat waiters nicely. They think of them as lesser humans. I felt terrible at the way people used to call me 'chhotu' and other names. I wanted to get out as soon as possible,' he said. Babu who currently trains under Army coach Basant Rana entered the Army Sports Institute, Pune after winning silver at the 2021 50-km racewalking. After finishing the race three-and-a-half minutes earlier than the previous record, the athlete is now keen to improve further when he next plays at the Open Nationals which will be held later this month in Bengaluru.

National coach RK Sharma, who was dismissed recently after India’s top cyclist accused him of sexual harassment, is facing another allegation of objectionable behavior by International gold medallist Deborah Herold. 
While speaking to The Indian Express, the national champion said that she was removed from the national team, after the team’s assistant coach, Gautamani Devi ‘thought she was in a relationship with another female cyclist’. 
Clarifying that Devi misunderstood their relationship, the Andaman-based cyclist spoke about the discomfort she faced before being removed from the national camp. The 27-year-old said that the coach & the assistant coach constantly harassed her by ignoring her, taunting her, and eventually she was also isolated from the rest of the cyclists. 
Herold was removed from the team in 2018, when she was the country’s fastest cyclist in 200m sprint and 500m time trial events. 
The National champion also accused Sharma of ‘slapping’ her in 2015. ‘The ac in my room was not working, I went to a fellow boy’s room for which he slapped me twice, she said.
Apart from Herold, 2 other members of the national team have also accused Sharma of ‘constantly harassing and threatening them’ which they said, affected their performance over the years.

A top Indian woman cyclist registered a complaint to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) accusing the national coach RK Sharma of harassment. 
According to the complaint, the incident took place on 29 May during the team's tour of Slovenia where the national coach Sharma forced himself into the cyclist's room and harassed her. The cyclist was brought back to India on June 3. The cyclist is also a part of the elite Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
SAI released a statement in which they said that the SAI brought the complainant back to India to ensure her safety and has also constituted a committee to investigate the matter. 
"The matter is being dealt with on priority and will be resolved shortly," the statement read.
The Cycling Federation of India said that they stand with the complainant they also formed a probe panel of its own.

The Cycling Federation of India has formed a probe panel to investigate harassment charges against national coach RK Sharma

After a top Indian woman cyclist accused national coach RK Sharma&nbsp;of harassment, the Cycling Federation of India has recalled the entire Indian contingent from their tour of Slovenia. The move comes after the cyclist&nbsp;registered a complaint with the Sports Authority of India against coach Sharma.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on May 29 in Slovenia. After the complainant raised the issue with the Indian authorities, she was brought back to India on June 3.
The Sports Authority of India issued a statement in response, stating: 'The matter is being dealt with on priority and will be resolved shortly.'
Meanwhile, the Cycling Federation has put its support behind the female athlete and has formed a probe panel of its own.&nbsp;

Aruna Budda Reddy, India's ace gymnast who won the bronze medal at the Gymnastics World Cup in 2018, has warned of taking legal action for getting videographed without consent. Reddy on March 2022, earlier this year took a fitness test in Delhi where she alleged that one of the trainees of SAI Coach Rohit Jaiswal had shot her video while she was undertaking the test. Later, the gymnast who trains under Manoj Rana mailed GFI president Sudhir Mittal demanding the video. In Mittal's response, Reddy got to know that no video had been shot by the Federation. After learning this, the Telangana-based Gymnast informed SAI about the 'shot video' and warned to take legal action against the particular trainee of Rohit Jaiswal. In her mail, as per the TOI, Reddy wrote that she has evidence to prove her point and requested the federation to help her obtain the video. In any other case, I will be forced to take necessary steps as per law, she added. Her coach Manoj Rana too said that they had evidence that they would hand it over to Sports Authority od India's DG Sandeep Pradhan.

34 people including 16 members of the senior Men's hockey team have returned positive tests for Covid-19 at the Sports Authority of India's National Centre of Excellence, Bangalore, SAI confirmed. All of them are asymptomatic and all of them are under isolation, the officials said. As per SAI's statement, Marijne&nbsp;has been paid his salary until Aug 7 2021 and the administration owes him only USD 1800 as he hasn't returned the 'laptop which has&nbsp;invaluable data' provided to him by SAI. The SAI&nbsp;further said they will take legal action against him if he does not return the laptop.&nbsp;In reply,&nbsp;Marijne&nbsp;who is in the Netherlands clarified that he has already initiated the process of sending back the laptop, which had crashed during the Olympics.&nbsp;

According to PTI, she had overstayed her European Union (EU) visa by one day. The report quoted an IOA official who said, it was an oversight and something not done on purpose. Instead of 90 days as per her Schengen visa, she had been in the EU for 91 days and was stopped at the Frankfurt airport when she landed from Budapest. The matter was taken up by the Sports Authority of India and the Indian consulate in Frankfurt has now sorted the issue. She flies to Tokyo on Thursday.
