Displaying absolute dominance, a Smriti Mandhana-inspired Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted their second Women's Premier League trophy with a six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, who failed to seize the moment on the biggest stage despite playing in their fourth final in Vadodara on Thursday.
RCB captain Mandhana looked in imperious touch on her way to a magnificent 87 off 41 balls, while Georgia Voll smashed 79 in 54 deliveries during a 165-run partnership for the second wicket with her skipper, which paved the way for a memorable title triumph.
This was after skipper Jemimah Rodrigues rose to the occasion with a scintillating half-century and Chinelle Henry blazed away to a 15-ball 35 to lift Delhi Capitals to an imposing 203 for four. Laura Wolvaardt (44 not out off 25 balls) and Lizelle Lee (37 off 30 balls) also made quick runs after DC were put in. Rodrigues slammed 57 off 37 balls.
In reply, RCB completed the record chase with two balls remaining while joining Mumbai Indians as the most successful teams in the WPL. In the stiff chase, RCB lost the big wicket of Grace Harris (9) early, but skipper Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll kept them in the contest by scoring quickly and keeping pace with the required run rate.
Both Mandhana and Georgia drove anything that was pitched up with ease, pulled and cut the short balls with authority as RCB reached 100 exactly at the halfway mark, requiring 104 runs in 60 balls. Meanwhile, Mandhana, having just hit two sixes, raced to her fifty in 23 balls with a sublime boundary against Sneh Rana. Voll was also at her best at the other end, dispatching everything that was in her arc with utter disdain.
The equation came down to 54 of 36 balls after Mandhana smashed Shree Charani for two boundaries to take RCB to 150 in 14 overs. The two continued to dominate until Voll gave her wicket away to Minnu Mani, raising DC hopes. However, RCB held their nerves to emerge winners.
Earlier, the Royal Challengers were on the money in the first three overs with Lauren Bell and Sayali Satghare conceding just nine runs as Shafali Verma and Lee did not get enough width to free their arms. However, the fourth over bowled by Satghare saw the Capitals release the pressure with Lee clobbering the medium pacer's half-volley and half-tracker for two successive sixes &mdash; one over long-off and another over mid-wicket.
There was then an appeal for a stumping thanks to Richa Ghosh's enterprise, and it was followed by Satghare failing to latch on to a difficult caught-and-bowled chance, ending an eventful over that yielded the Capitals 20 runs and gave them the much-needed momentum after the sluggish start.
With DC reaching 36 after five overs, skipper Smriti Mandhana introduced Arundhati Reddy into the attack, and Shafali straightaway collected two fours. However, Reddy hit back with the wicket of Shafali with a short ball, which was smartly taken by Ghosh behind the stumps.
The classy Laura Wolvaardt began with an exquisite boundary before Lee welcomed off-spinner Shreyanka Patil into the attack with two fours and a six on the trot, lifting DC to 72 for one in seven overs. It took compatriot Nadine de Klerk to end the dangerous Lee's stay in the middle, as the opener skied one for Grace Harris to run in from long-on to complete a clean catch.
Rodrigues joined Wolvaardt, and the duo found the gaps at will with their stylish batting to keep RCB under pressure with a partnership of 76 runs.
In the end though, RCB had the last laugh, once again, in a rematch of the 2024 final.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru has proposed installing AI-enabled cameras at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium at its own cost to improve crowd management and retain IPL matches in Bengaluru.

Desperate to ensure that IPL matches are not taken away from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise has proposed the installation of 300-350 AI-enabled cameras at the venue and offered to bear the estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore for this crowd management initiative.
RCB has made the proposal in an official communication to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
&ldquo;RCB has proposed the installation of 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB has further committed to bearing the entire one-time cost of this initiative, estimated at approximately Rs 4.5 crore,&rdquo; the franchise said in a release.
&ldquo;The advanced surveillance technology will empower the KSCA and law enforcement agencies to efficiently manage crowd movement, ensure disciplined queueing, monitor unauthorised access through real-time tracking of entries and exits, and significantly enhance overall fan safety,&rdquo; the franchise added.
All cricket was halted at the Chinnaswamy after 11 fans were killed in a stampede outside the venue during RCB's IPL trophy celebrations last year.
A state government-constituted task force is scheduled to submit its report on Saturday after monitoring the safety enhancement work currently in progress at the stadium premises.
The investigation had blamed the lack of crowd management measures for the deadly stampede on June 4 when lakhs thronged the venue to take part in RCB's celebrations.
It had held RCB responsible for the chaos, saying the franchise encouraged fans to come out in numbers despite not having necessary clearances from civic and law enforcement agencies.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, RCB announced compensation for the families of the victims and set up a foundation to connect with the fans.
For its latest proposal, the franchise said it has partnered with Staqu, a company which it said has a proven track record in enhancing public safety through automation and data-driven intelligence.
Staqu has listed Bihar Police and the Election Commission of India as its clients on its official website.
The success stories that the company has posted include a past collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Prison and Administrative Reform Services to centralise the video feeds from over 3000 CCTV cameras in more than 60 jails at a command centre for review of security breaches, violence, overcrowding and unauthorised access.
&ldquo;Staqu's state-of-the-art facial recognition technology and intelligent monitoring of objects, crowd, perimeters and vehicles has assisted many State Police forces in their regular monitoring and investigations,&rdquo; said RCB.
&ldquo;The integration of this advanced technology will elevate crowd management standards and reinforce a safe, secure and seamless matchday experience for all fans,&rdquo; the team asserted.
The AI-driven real-time camera system relies on video, audio and text data, enabling match-day security forces to detect unauthorised access and intrusion to take preventive measures well in advance.
If the venue does not receive essential permission from government agencies to hold IPL 2026 matches, the RCB management is thinking of taking its home matches to Raipur and Pune.
A venue is required to be handed over to the authorities at least a month before the start of the IPL, and this edition of the league is tentatively scheduled to start March 26.
Before that, the country would be hosting the T20 World Cup from February 7 and the Chinnaswamy has not been able to bag a single game for that either after failing to obtain necessary NOCs.
The global event's final is scheduled for March 8.

United Spirits Ltd, owned by Diageo, announced a strategic review of its investment in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd &mdash; owner of IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru &mdash; indicating a possible sale by March 2026.

United Spirits Ltd (USL), part of multinational alcoholic beverages company Diageo, on Wednesday said it is going to have a strategic review of its investment in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd (RCSPL), the entity that owns IPL T20 team Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Hinting towards the sale of the business, USL, in a regulatory filing on Wednesday, said it is "initiating a strategic review of the investment in its wholly-owned subsidiary, RCSPL."
RCSPL's business comprises ownership of the &ldquo;Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)&rdquo; franchise teams that participate in the Men's Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women's Premier League (WPL) cricket tournaments hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) annually.
RCB, the team that had India's cricket star Virat Kohli, won its first Indian Premier League title earlier this year. The company expects the entire process of strategic review to be completed by the end of this fiscal. "It is expected the process will conclude by March 31st, 2026," said USL Managing Director &amp; CEO Praveen Someshwar.
According to Someshwar, though RCSPL has been a valuable and strategic asset for USL, it&rsquo;s non-core to our alcoholic beverage business. "This step reinforces USL&rsquo;s &amp; Diageo&rsquo;s commitment to continue reviewing its India enterprise portfolio to enable sustained delivery of long-term value to all its stakeholders, while keeping RCSPL&rsquo;s best interest in mind," he said.
RCB was one of the founding teams of the IPL, which was founded in 2008 by its previous owner Vijay Mallya. It came into the fold of Diageo, after it took Mallya's liquor business United Spirits Ltd.
RCB, whose home ground is M Chinnaswamy Stadium, won their first title in 2025 and finished as the runners-up on three occasions -- 2009, 2011, and 2016.
Earlier, in September, some media reports had claimed that Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla was in talks with USL for a possible acquisition of RCB. Recently, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) platform, Poonawalla said, &ldquo;At the right valuation, RCB is a great team,&rdquo; signalling his interest in acquiring the 2025 IPL champion team.
Earlier, in May 2022 after the strategic review of selected Popular brands, USL had sold and franchised selected brands to Inbrew Beverages.

The tragic incident occurred when an estimated 2.5 lakh fans thronged the at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate RCB's maiden IPL title.

"I've been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost...and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility," he added in his first elaborate comment on the mishap that led to widespread criticism of the franchise as well.
An official inquiry into the incident attributed the chaos to the lack of proper clearances and the overwhelming crowd, which surged in response to social media invitations sent out by the franchise.
The police admitted to being grossly outnumbered to manage the turnout and RCB was held responsible in the probe for encouraging the fans to come out in numbers.
In the aftermath, RCB announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of the deceased and pledged to take "meaningful action" in their memory.
It also launched a foundation, RCB Cares, which has promised to work closely with stadium authorities, sporting bodies and league partners to design better crowd management protocols.&nbsp;

The status report on the stampede at the Chinnaswamy stadium here that left 11 people dead has blamed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), their event management partner M/s DNA Networks Private Ltd, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for unilaterally organising RCB's massive victory parade and celebration without prior permission or furnishing mandatory details to city authorities.
The report has been submitted to the High Court, government sources said.
According to the report, at about 6.30 pm, just hours before the IPL final between RCB and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad, the KSCA on behalf of DNA Networks Pvt Ltd submitted a letter of intimation to the Cubbon Park police station.
"Should RCB emerge victorious in the tournament, the management of RCB/DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited intends to plan potential victory parades around the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, culminating in victory celebrations at the stadium. This was in the nature of an intimation, not a requisition for permission as required under the law," the report said.
However, the police denied permission due to the lack of critical information, including projected crowd size, event logistics, and crowd control measures. The proposal was also made on short notice, which precluded due processing.
Despite this, RCB unilaterally proceeded on June 4, announcing a public 'Victory Parade' from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium via multiple social media posts starting at 7.01 am.
A final post at 3.14 pm announced that the parade would begin at 5.00 pm and would be followed by stadium celebrations.
This post was the first to mention that free passes were available online, but it came after large crowds had already started gathering.
The posts garnered widespread attention, with the first four updates accumulating viewership figures of 16 lakh, 4.26 lakh, 7.6 lakh, and 17 lakh respectively.
This crowd estimate is supported by BMRCL ridership on June 4, which saw 9.66 lakh commuters compared to a daily average of six lakh.
"Therefore, including those who travelled on foot, used public transport, and private means on June 4, the estimated gathering would be well beyond three lakh individuals," the statement said.
The report emphasised that the organisers never formally sought police permission in the prescribed format as mandated by the Licensing and Controlling of Assemblies and Processions (Bangalore City) Order, 2009.
It clarified that merely submitting an intimation does not amount to seeking permission, particularly for events involving large public gatherings in central Bengaluru.
Authorities claimed that the essential details such as the number of participants, assembly point, timing, names and contact details of responsible organisers, and plans for traffic and crowd control, were entirely missing.
This lack of information prevented police from assessing the event's scale or planning adequate safety measures.
Furthermore, there was no signage or loudspeakers for public instructions, no trained staff for crowd management at entry gates and within seating areas, and no prior request for loudspeaker use or police bandobast.
The organisers also failed to pay for police deployment, as mandated by the Government Order dated May 22, 2019, the report said.
Despite the absence of coordination or approvals, the Bengaluru City Police implemented multiple measures to manage the situation on the ground.
A meeting was convened at 10 am on June 4 at the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police, where traffic and law enforcement planning was finalised.
A total of 654 traffic personnel were deployed, including 4 DCPs, 6 ACPs, 23 PIs, 57 PSIs, 104 ASIs, and 462 constables.
The route taken by the RCB team, from HAL to Taj West End, Vidhana Soudha, and finally Chinnaswamy Stadium, was regulated to minimise disruption.
A traffic advisory and map were released through press, social media, and FM radio, advising the public to avoid central areas and use Metro or other public transport due to limited parking. Nine diversion points were created and 125 barricades installed with an additional 11 barricading zones added as a precaution. Local schools were requested to close by noon.
BMTC deployed its Sarathi teams, and the E-Path app was activated for ambulance management. A dedicated control room monitored traffic movements throughout the event.
Eight major sectors were identified where police personnel were stationed to regulate and manage the public.
The report concluded that RCB, DNA Networks, and KSCA ignored standard procedures and safety measures, leading to violations and potential public safety risks.
Their failure to obtain permission and coordinate with authorities ahead of time left the city administration with no option but to respond reactively to an event that had already gained momentum through social media mobilisation.
"Recognising the need for accountability within the law enforcement hierarchy, the government took action against police officials on June 5, 2025.
A Government Order suspended five police officers, including three IPS officers of significant rank: the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector General and Additional Commissioner of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, alongside the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Cubbon Park and the Police Inspector of Cubbon Park," the report said.&nbsp;

Speaking to PTI Videos, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh confirmed that few arrests have been made in the connection with the stampede case.
&ldquo;Few arrests have been made. Our teams are taking up the case very seriously, and ultimately the case has to go to CID. So before going to CID, whatever legal formalities have to be done by our team, they are doing it,&rdquo; he said.
Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue of RCB, Sunil Mathew and Kiran Kumar from DNA entertainment private limited are among those who have been arrested, sources said.
They were brought to Cubbon Park police station for questioning, sources said, adding that after medical examination, further process will be followed.
Some of them were reportedly taken into custody from the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on the outskirts of the city.
Police action followed the FIR registered on Thursday against RCB, the event management firm DNA, and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
The stampede occurred on Wednesday evening in front of the stadium, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's IPL victory celebrations.
On Thursday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddarmaiah had instructed the DGP and IGP of the state to immediately arrest the representatives of RCB and DNA event managers and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the stampede, as prima facie there was "irresponsibility" and "carelessness" on their part, and FIR has also been registered.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Virat Kohli washed away 18 years of hurt and disappointment on a dream Tuesday night, conquering Punjab Kings by six runs to lift their maiden Indian Premier League title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.&nbsp;
The final turned out to be a battle of nerves and RCB certainly channelled their years of disappointment and pain to come back roaring in the contest and seal a commanding victory.
A partisan crowd did not give up on RCB even as they struggled to find the flourish with the bat and ended up posting a total of 190/9 with superstar Kohli making a laborious 35-ball 43.
At the break, RCB&rsquo;s total did not look enough but a persistent effort from their bowlers made the scoreboard pressure ultimately work in their favour.
With 29 needed off the final over, RCB's win was sealed when Josh Hazlewood bowled the second dot ball on the trot. Shashank Singh struck a valiant 61 not out off 30 balls (3x4s, 6x6s), but his effort came far too late as Punjab Kings ended at 184 for seven.
Josh Hazlewood provided the first breakthrough, Krunal Pandya bowled a dream spell of 4-0-17-2 in a summit clash but it was Romario Shepherd&rsquo;s dismissal of PBKS&rsquo; gun captain Shreyas Iyer that finally indicated which way the game was headed.
All it took was an innocuous delivery outside off to see the back of the most dangerous batter in the final as Iyer, coming off a terrific knock in Qualifier 2, edged it behind off Shepherd and walked back with his head dropped.
Josh Inglis (39 off 23 balls, 1x4s, 4x6s) made every opportunity count when it came to hitting towards midwicket but Pandya had him caught at long-on in the 13th over.
Thereafter, every dot ball drew appreciation from fans and they were at their loudest when RCB legend AB de Villiers appeared on the big screen on the ground, and also when PBKS were mathematically knocked out.
Desperate to strike early, RCB needed something special and Phil Salt produced a brilliant effort in the deep when Priyansh Arya (24) lifted the ball off Hazlewood in the fifth over.
Salt made a dash from deep square leg to his right and took the catch reverse cupped and threw the ball up in the air as he hurtled past the ropes. He recovered quickly to get inside the field and take a stunning catch.
Punjab&rsquo;s impact sub Prabhsimran Singh (26 off 22 balls) succumbed to pressure even as his side made 52/1 in the powerplay.
Bhuvneshwar shut the doors on Punjab when he dismissed Nehal Wadhera (15) and Marcus Stoinis (6) in a span of three deliveries in the 17th over and thereon, RCB&rsquo;s triumph was only a formality.
Earlier, RCB huffed and puffed to 190 for nine after their batters failed to press matters on what remained a conducive wicket.
While RCB were not only a tad conservative in the big final, luck also did not favour the fourth-time finalists chasing their maiden trophy a great deal, as each of their batters perished after getting a start.
And there were no fireworks on the night of the big final as Kohli, looking to anchor the innings the way he has done in the past, perished after his laborious effort in the middle.
Kohli struck a mere three fours &mdash; two after the ninth over &mdash; as he got his 43 runs off 35 balls at 122.85.
RCB&rsquo;s slowing down post the powerplay, in which they scored 55/1, also saw their batters farming the strike rather than taking initiative to aim for big overs with only 42 runs coming between overs 6-11.
Salt&rsquo;s early exit had a major impact on how RCB&rsquo;s innings progressed thereon but none of the following batters including Mayank Agarawal (24), Rajat Patidar (26) and Liam Livingstone (25) could convert their starts.
The lanky Jamieson a huge impact, not only finding the right lengths and variations to keep a lid on the batters but also accounting for three key batters to push RCB back further.
In the second over, after Salt smacked him for a four over mid-on, he had the RCB opener caught off Iyer and in the 11th, after Rajat Patidar hit him for a six over mid-off, Jamieson bowled a superb slow yorker which pinned the batter in front of the wickets.
Jamieson&rsquo;s numbers were spoiled to some extent in the 17th over when Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10 balls, 2x4s, 2x6s) clobbered a couple of sixes and Livingstone one to collect 23 off it.
But once again, Jamieson ended it by trapping Livingstone leg-before off a full toss.

As the final ball was bowled, Kohli dropped to his knees, surrounded by jubilant teammates. Later, while speaking to the media, he expressed the magnitude of the win.

Punjab's bowling, without Marcus Jansen, did look a little depleted but having managed to keep a lid on Mumbai Indians' for the entirely of an innings on a batting-friendly wicket tells that there is more to it than what has been perceived.
Yuzvendra Chahal is still dealing with a hand injury and was not at his absolute best in the Qualifier 2 but Punjab would need him to fire against his former franchise.
