Some 180 dogs and cats were removed from a New Jersey home by a hazmat team after officials reported the animals were being kept in &ldquo;horrible and inhumane conditions,&rdquo; authorities say.
Brick Township police said officers entered the home Friday night and found stacks of animal crates containing dogs and cats, but because of the conditions &ldquo;the officers were forced to exit and requested that a hazmat team respond.&rdquo; Two arrests were made, officials said.
Police said rescuers in hazmat gear took about 10 hours to remove the animals. Police said 135 dogs and and 45 cats were removed; two of the dogs were dead when they were taken from the home and about eight animals were taken for emergency care, police added.

&ldquo;The home was full of animal waste and the animals were living in horrible and inhumane conditions," police said in a statement, adding the home was &ldquo;subsequently condemned&rdquo; by the township's building and code department.
The animals were taken to a number of shelters with dozens of agencies and groups aiding with the rescue, placement of the animals and support services, police said.
Two arrests on animal cruelty accusations were made and a child endangerment charge is also pending since a 16-year-old also was living in the residence, police said

The Coast Guard launched a search after a relative reported the three people failed to return from a fishing trip Saturday evening.
The 24-foot (7.3-meter), center-console fishing boat sank at about 10 a.m. Saturday and stranded the three people without communication devices, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The three were wearing lifejackets and one was showing signs of hypothermia when they were rescued Sunday about 25 miles (40.2 kilometers) offshore from Empire, Louisiana — a small community southeast of New Orleans.
The news release said a Coast Guard boat crew saw two of the people fending off sharks, and both of them had injured hands. The crew pulled them from the water, and the two were lifted onto a helicopter. The helicopter crew lifted the third boater from the water.
The two injured people were taken to University Medical Center New Orleans, where they were listed as stable. The Coast Guard did not release their names.

The boy is conscious, they said, adding that a team of robot specialists from Gujarat has reached the spot and efforts are being made to pull out the child, who is stuck at a depth of about 60 feet in the abandoned borewell.
The boy, Rahul Sahu, fell into the unused 80-feet-deep borewell, located in the backyard of his house in Pihrid village in Malkharoda development block around 2 pm on Friday while he was playing there, officials said.
The rescue teams, comprising over 500 personnel, including officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army, have been working tirelessly, using ultra-advance machines and vehicles to evacuate the child safely, they said.
As per the latest information, a parallel pit, being dug since Friday evening, is nearing its final stage. A tunnel will then be created which will enable rescuers to reach the borewell and evacuate the child.
A team of robot specialists from Gujarat has also reached the spot and efforts are also being made to pull out the child safely with the help of a robot, officials said.
“Health officials have been constantly monitoring Rahul's condition through cameras. He is conscious and showing movement. He was given a soft drink and banana in the wee hours of Sunday and provided juice this morning. A pipe has been installed for oxygen supply in the borewell,” a government statement said.
“We are hoping that we will be able to rescue the child by late afternoon,” a district administration official said.
Over 500 personnel, including from the NDRF, a four-member Army team, more than 150 policemen and 15 personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been engaged in the rescue operation, which began at 4 pm on Friday, officials said.
There is some water inside the borewell where the child is trapped and the NDRF personnel are trying to drain it out with the help of a vessel tied to a rope. Even the child has been helping in the water draining exercise, as per the government statement.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is in touch with officials and constantly taking updates about the operation.
Baghel also spoke to Rahul's family members over phone and assured them that every possible step would be taken to save the child.
District Collector Jitendra Shukla and Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal were at the spot since Friday evening.
The CM has also directed all district collectors and SPs that borewells should be covered in order to prevent such incidents.

Indian Army's actions prevents grave mishap

An Indian Army rafting team prevented a mishap in Uttarakhand on April 29. The Army rafting team rescued two civilian women at the adventure hotspot of Rishikesh.
The women fell out of a civilian raft and were being washed away by the rapids. They were spotted by the Army team who started shouting instructions to them.

Then a rope was thrown towards the women but they couldn&rsquo;t catch hold of it. Subsequently, members of the team waded out into the water and pulled the women to safety.
The incident occurred at Phool Chatti.

Delhi's Satya Niketan witnessed a tragedy as a three-storey building collapsed on April 25, trapping multiple people. The building was being renovated when it caved-in, and those trapped were believed to be labourers.
The building was being converted into a paying guest (PG) accomodation. Fire Services said that they received a call around 1:24 pm, and the main challenge was getting vehicles to the spot as the building is in a congested area.
At least 4 people had been rescued by 4:30 pm. A senior fire official was quoted by PTI as saying that the building was not in a good enough condition to undergo renovation.
South Delhi Mayor visited the spot, and said that the building had been marked as being in the danger zone in March. Mukesh Suryan said, "What I've come to know is that the owners wanted to repair their house. If there was a budget issue, they thought or repair... Nigam did its work. The building was in the danger zone, and we had intimated as per procedure. The notice had pasted on March 31. On April 14, police, SDM etc had been intimated. Officials have letters of the copies."

At around 2:30 pm, constable Hrishikesh Mane spotted an 18-year-old standing close to the edge of the platform. Subsequently, just as a train was about to arrive, the teenager jumped onto the track to commit suicide, as per reports.
Constable Mane rushed after him, and descended to the tracks as well. With a train rapidly approaching, Mane pushed the young man away from the tracks. Within seconds, a CCTV camera at the station caught a train passing through the very spot.
News reports suggested that the teenager was counselled by police, and reunited with his parents later.
