On Camera: Trekker falls from cliff, rescued by Indian Air Force | Karnataka

In a successful rescue mission by the Indian Air Force and Karnataka police, a 19-year-old student was saved after reportedly falling hundreds of feet from a cliff at Nandi Hill.

A video of the rescue mission showed an IAF chopper hovering in mid-air as the student was pulled up with a harness.

The youth, named Nishank, hails from Delhi and studies at an engineering college in Bengaluru, as per reports. He had gone for a solo trek when he slipped, fell into a gorge, and got stuck, according to officials quoted by news agency PTI.

Nishank was able to immediately call the police and share his location, leading to a rapid rescue effort. Police rushed to the spot with state and disaster relief force personnel, but were unable to pull the youth to safety.

Subsequently, the Indian Air Force station in Yelahanka was reportedly contacted.

The IAF sent an Mi17 helicopter, and the flight gunner of the chopper was lowered to the trekker via a winch. Nishank was then pulled up using a harness, and taken to a hospital.

Recently, a similar rescue was conducted by the Indian Army, Navy, and NDRF in Kerala when a trekker got trapped in the cleft of a hill for around 40 hours.
