With heavy rains pounding Assam, the Indian Air Force had to be called in on May 15. The IAF helped evacuate over 100 people from the Ditokchera railway station after a train was stranded there for over 24 hours.

The Air Force deployed helicopters to extract 119 passengers from the train station situated in Dima Hasao district. The train was stranded due to incessant rains making rail movement unfeasible, the IAF said.

The first wave of annual floods in Assam has affected almost 25,000 people in over 90 villages in 6 districts. Dima Hasao saw at least 3 casualties due to a landslide on May 14. A portion of a road was washed away by heavy rains in Haflong.
