Actor Vijay Deverakonda was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in Hyderabad for almost 12 hours over the funding of his last release &lsquo;Liger&rsquo;. Following the questioning, Deverakonda addressed the media and said that the ED needed &lsquo;some clarifications&rsquo; and he &lsquo;gave answers to all the questions.&rsquo; He added that he was looking at the questioning as an &lsquo;experience&rsquo; and mentioned that &lsquo;popularity comes with side effects&rsquo;.
'I came here today morning. They needed some clarifications and I gave answers to all the questions. You give me so much love and that love gives me popularity and fame. And that popularity comes with some side effects. This is one such thing. But, it&rsquo;s an experience. It&rsquo;s life,&rsquo; he said.
Earlier, ED also interrogated 'Liger' director Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmme Kaur over the funding. The agency is probing if there was any violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) with regard to payments made to former boxer Mike Tyson, who made a special appearance in the movie.
The investigation comes after Congress leader Bakka Judson filed a complaint about the investments made into the movie. He even claimed that politicians had invested money in &lsquo;Liger&rsquo;. According to him, this whole process was done to turn their black money into white.

&lsquo;Liger&rsquo; director Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmme Kaur were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on November 18 over &lsquo;Liger's investment.

&lsquo;Liger&rsquo; director Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmme Kaur were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on November 18 over &lsquo;Liger's investment. According to Times of India report, the duo was grilled for over 12 hours on their source of income for producing the movie. Vijay Deverakonda-Ananya Panday starrer was a high-budget film with shoots in Las Vegas, including payments for former boxing champion Mike Tyson.
As per reports, ED served notice to the duo under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Sources told the Times of India that besides movie funding, high-value payments made in foreign currency to technical crew and foreign actors at Las Vegas have come under ED scrutiny.
Puri Jagannadh was reportedly also quizzed over the funding of his next project &lsquo;Jana Gana Mana&rsquo;. The probe on &lsquo;Liger's team began after Congress leader Bakka Judson lodged a complaint with the ED in September claiming Telangana CM KCR&rsquo;s daughter K. Kavitha had invested money in the film. This is the second time Jagannadh and Charmme Kaur are being questioned by ED. Last year, they were grilled regarding allegations of the Tollywood Drug Case and money laundering.
&lsquo;Liger&rsquo;, which was released in theatres on August 25, ended up as a box office disaster. Post the film&rsquo;s debacle, the distributors of &lsquo;Liger&rsquo; asked Puri to compensate their losses and also allegedly threatened to protest outside his residence for not returning their money.

Puri Jagannadh&rsquo;s &lsquo;Liger&rsquo;, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, failed to impress the audience and tanked at the box office. The director has allegedly received threats from film distributors to settle the losses at the earliest. They are also planning to stage protest in front of his house.
Now, as per Hindustan Times report, Puri Jagnnadh has filed a police complaint and mentioned that distributors cannot threaten or blackmail him in any manner. He said they should have registered a civil case if they felt he or his firm owes them money.
Puri also revealed that as per agreement all his dues were paid to distributor Warangal Sreenu, who had defaulted payments to the sub-distributors. They are now being persuaded by Sreenu to believe that Puri owes them money. The director fears that Sreenu will enter his Hyderabad home, instigate violence and harass his family members.
&lsquo;Liger&rsquo; was promoted widely as a pan-India film, and Karan Johar had come on board to release the Hindi version. However, the film received negative reviews from viewers. Ahead of the release of &lsquo;Liger&rsquo;, it was announced that Vijay Deverakonda and Puri Jagannadh would collaborate once again for another project titled &lsquo;Jana Gana Mana&rsquo;. However, the project has reportedly been dropped.

Now, the film&rsquo;s distributors have allegedly threatened to protest against the director for not returning their money after the Vijay Deverakonda-Ananya Panday starrer&rsquo;s debacle at the ticket booth.&nbsp;
An alleged screenshot of a WhatsApp message was shared by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on his official Twitter page, which claimed that a group of distributors is planning to stage a dharna outside Puri Jagannadh&rsquo;s house on October 27 at 9am. It also requested exhibitors to carry extra clothes with them as the protest could last for at least four days. Sharing the screengrab, RGV wrote, &lsquo;Threatening Msg circulating in Distribution groups about LIGER.&rsquo;&nbsp;
Ram Gopal Varma also shared Puri Jagannadh&rsquo;s response to the message that is being widely shared online.&nbsp;
The director, in his statement, hit back at the distributors for allegedly blackmailing him. He said that he didn&rsquo;t need to return money to anyone, but he was still doing it for those who suffered losses. Puri further said that he wouldn&rsquo;t be returning money to those who plan to stage protests against him.

He slammed people who boycott movies even before seeing them and alleged a ‘concerted campaign’ against the movie industry on a regular basis. He said that things like these are affecting the daily wage workers the most.
According to ETimes, the film's producer Puri Jagannadh has decided to compensate the distributors who have suffered. The film producer is set to fly to Hyderabad and meet those distributors and execute the compensation soon.

'It's absolutely right. It's not working big time actually. North people are accepting South ones. But if a Hindi film dubbed in south is not accepted by audience there. There is a set of Hindi movies that Telugu audiences prefer watching, but not specifically the dubbed ones,' he told ETimes. 
Over the past few months, South films such as 'KGF: Chapter 2', 'RRR' and 'Phuspha: The Rise' were dubbed and released in multiple languages. These films went on to witness massive box office success across the world. 
Puri Jagannadh made his directorial debut in 2000 with 'Badri', starring Pawan Kalyan and Renu Desai. Following which, he established a place for himself in the Telugu cinema.
