With her first husband, who died in 1992, Safina had no children of her own. Her current partner, whom she met in 1996, did not attend the birth, much to her dismay.

A 70-year-old Ugandan woman has given birth to twins, "an extraordinary feat", her doctor told AFP on Thursday.
"It's an extraordinary feat to give birth to twins" for a 70-year-old mother, Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, who supervised her pregnancy and delivery, told AFP.
The mother, Safina Namukwaya, described the birth of the twins, a boy and a girl, on Wednesday as a "miracle".
Both mother and babies are in good health and are still under observation at a facility in the capital Kampala, continued Edward Tamale Sali. Safina Namukwaya usually lives in rural Masaka, some 120 kilometers west of the capital.
Only three years ago, the septuagenarian gave birth to a daughter, after being described as a "cursed woman" for not having been able to have children before.
With her first husband, who died in 1992, she had no children of her own. Ms. Namukwaya's current partner, whom she met in 1996, did not attend the birth, much to her dismay.
"Maybe he's not happy that I gave birth to twins (...) for fear of the responsibilities that entails," she said.

The test, which is based on technology that detects hCG, a hormone specific to pregnancy, is believed to be 97 percent accurate and more convenient to use.&nbsp;
<h3>How does this test work?&nbsp;</h3>
To take this test, the person needs to place a foam-tipped stick from the kit in the mouth for a few moments, like we keep the thermometer.&nbsp;
This will then collect the sample of saliva and the result can be easily read within 5 to 15 minutes.&nbsp;
This test can detect if you are pregnant as early as a day after you've missed your period.&nbsp;

This study was done on mice, in which it was revealed that this medicine had destroyed the fertility of rats in just 30 minutes and no negative effects were observed on them. There was no effect on their sexual behaviour as well.

According to the study, the effect of this pill remains 100% effective for the first 2 hours. It reduces up to 91% for the first three hours and 24 hours later the effect evades completely.

New research shows women who have had a miscarriage or stillbirth, have an increased risk of stroke in later life.&nbsp;

Women with a history of miscarriage or stillbirth have a higher risk of stroke in later life, a Queensland-led study has found.&nbsp;
For the study, the team analysed data of 6,20,000 women aged between 32 and 73 for a period of 11 years. Researchers found that the risk increased with each miscarriage or stillbirth.
As per the findings, more than 13,000 participants experienced a stroke, including 4,000 who died, during the study. Women who had miscarried once had a 7 per cent higher risk of strokes compared to those who had never experienced a miscarriage in pregnancy.
The risk was 26 per cent higher for a deadly stroke after two miscarriages. And after three or more miscarriages, the risk spiked by 82 per cent for a deadly stroke.

The research analysed the associations between maternal diabetes and the risk of high refractive error (RE). RE is one of the most common forms of visual impairment that includes both long and short-sightedness.
The long-term study looked at data from approximately 2.4 million people born in Denmark between 1977 and 2016. Of these individuals, over 56,000 were exposed to their mother's diabetes during pregnancy, including 0.9% with type 1 diabetes, 0.3% with type 2 diabetes and 1.1% with gestational diabetes.
As per the findings, children born to mothers with diabetes were at a 39% greater risk of high refractive error compared to children without diabetic mothers. Researchers also concluded that hypermetropia (long-sightedness) occurred more frequently in childhood and myopia (short-sightedness) was more frequent in adolescence and young adulthood.

'Decision is hers, not of medical board': Bombay HC on woman's choice termination of pregnancy

The woman had approached HC seeking to terminate her pregnancy after a sonography revealed the foetus had severe abnormalities and that the baby would be born with physical and mental disabilities.

A woman has the right to choose whether to continue her pregnancy or not and the decision is hers and hers alone to make, the Bombay High Court said while allowing a married woman to terminate her 32-week pregnancy after the foetus was detected with severe abnormalities.
A division bench of Justices Gautam Patel and S G Dige, in its judgment of January 20, a copy of which was made available on Monday, refused to accept the medical board's view that even though the foetus has serious abnormalities it should not be terminated as the pregnancy is almost at its fag end.

But that decision is hers, and hers alone to make. The right to choose is of the petitioner's. It is not the right of the Medical Board," the court said in its order.
Refusing termination of pregnancy only on grounds of delay would not only be condemning the foetus to a less than optimal life but would also be condemning the mother to a future that will almost certainly rob her of every positive attribute of parenthood, the HC said.
"It would be a denial of her right to dignity, and her reproductive and decisional autonomy. The mother knows today there is no possibility of having a normal healthy baby at the end of this delivery," the court said.

According to a recent study published in the journal PLOS Medicine, weight loss does not improve fertility in women but confers other benefits such as metabolic health.

For the study, researchers examined 379 women with obesity and unexplained infertility for a period of three years. Participants were into two groups; the first group dieted intensely using meal replacements and increased physical activity. The other group simply increased their physical activity without trying to lose weight.
In total, 23 of the 188 women who completed the weight-loss program ended up giving birth and among the 191 who completed the exercise-only program, 29 gave birth. Based on their findings, researchers concluded that weight-loss programs did not increase fertility or enhance birth outcomes in women.

In that, they found that the virtual exposure to an environment filled with greenery &nbsp;was associated with lower systolic blood pressure, reduced salivary alpha-amylase (an indicator of stress), improved positive emotions and decreased negative emotions in comparison to the non-green space environment.
Besides this, the study also found that exposure to greenery reduces the risk of mortality, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.&nbsp;

According to a report in Nagpur Today the incident came to fore recently in Narkhed Taluka of Maharashtra.
The report said that the 17-year-old girl was staying with her 27-year-old boyfriend in a room about six months ago and when the girl informed him about the pregnancy, he gave her some medicines for abortion but to no avail. The frightened minor then started watching videos on YouTube, seeking ways to terminate her pregnancy.The reports further stated that after watching a particular video clip, she stumbled upon a drug, and after consuming it her medical condition deteriorated and she was taken to a hospital, where she is recuperating.The report said her boyfriend has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.
