Ukraine's energy provider Ukrenergo said Monday that it is still short 27 per cent of output after Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. &ldquo;The scale and complexity of the damage are high, and repair works have continued around the clock,&rdquo; the company said in a statement.
Power supply was restored to 17 per cent of residents in the southern city of Kherson, which Ukraine reclaimed earlier this month. The Russians have continued pounding the city with artillery barrages.

Amid the ongoing electricity shortage and worsening power cuts, the cash-strapped Pakistan government has banned all kinds of wedding functions after 10pm in its capital, Islamabad. 
The current power crisis in the country, which has also affected Pakistan's economy, has forced the National Economic Council (NEC) to order the closure of markets across the country at 8.30 pm (local time).
Power Minister Khurrum Dastagir in an address to the press said the early closure of markets and work-from-home arrangements could save electricity.

Amid a deepening crisis in coal shortage, the Delhi government  warned of a possible setback in providing uninterrupted electricity supply to important establishments in the capital, including Metro trains and hospitals.
Power Minister Satyendar Jain held an emergency meeting to assess the situation and wrote to the Centre requesting it to ensure adequate coal availability to power plants that supply electricity to the national capital.
"Due to disruption of power supply from Dadri-II and Unchahar power stations, there may be a problem in 24-hours power supply to many essential institutions, including Delhi Metro and Delhi government hospitals," a government statement read.
Presently, 25-30 per cent of the electricity demand in Delhi is being met through these power stations, and they face a shortage of coal, Jain said.
He said the government was monitoring the situation closely and making every possible effort to ensure that people did not face power outages in some areas of the capital.
"These power stations play an important role in preventing blackouts in some parts of Delhi and are also essential to ensure the continuous supply of electricity to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, hospitals and people in the upcoming summer season," the minister said.
National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)'s Dadri-II and Jhajjar (Aravali) were established primarily to meet the power requirement in Delhi. However, there is very little stock of coal left even in these power plants, the statement further said.
The Dadri-II, Unchahar, Kahalgaon, Farakka and Jhajjar power plants supply 1,751 megawatt (MW) of electricity per day to Delhi. The capital gets the maximum supply of 728 MW from Dadri-II power station, while it receives 100 MW from the Unchahar station.
According to the daily coal report of the National Power Portal, all these power plants face an acute shortage of coal.
This, coupled with sweltering summer, has triggered blackouts across many parts of the country as states struggle to manage the record demand for electricity.
Besides measures to increase coal supplies to power plants, the Union government has asked states to step up its imports for the next three years to build up inventories.

A coal crisis is being witnessed in 12 states post October 2021, the AIPEF said in a statement.
"AIPEF has drawn the attention of Central and state governments towards the depleting coal inventory of domestic thermal power plants and has warned of an impending energy crisis in 12 states," it added.
The power crisis could worsen owing to the low coal stock to fire thermal power units, AIPEF Chairman Shailendra Dubey said in the statement.
In the first half of April 2022, the domestic power demand hit a 38-year high for the month. While there was 1.1 per cent power shortage in October 2021, this shortfall shot up to 1.4 per cent in April 2022, he said.
States like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Jharkhand and Haryana are facing power cuts, Dubey said, adding, "I urge the government to take immediate steps to replenish the coal inventory in thermal power stations to avert the crisis situation." In Uttar Pradesh, power demand has reached 21,000 megawatt while the supply is around 19,000 MW to 20,000 MW, he claimed.
According to the statement, the 2,630-MW Anpara Thermal Power Project, located at Sonebhadra in Uttar Pradesh, is at the pit head of a coal mine. There should be 5.96 lakh tonnes of coal in stock at Anpara, whereas at present it has only 3.28 LT.
Similarly, the Harduaganj project should have 4.97 LT of coal in stock but has only 65,700 tonnes. The Obra plant in the state should have 4.45 LT in stock, while there is about 1 LT of coal stock left with it.
Speaking to PTI over phone, Dubey said, "This situation has arisen due to the lack of foresight of the management. In October last year, Parichha thermal power station had to be closed due to coal shortage." According to Dubey, other states which are facing a coal crisis are Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
However, the association did not provide consolidated data of coal stock across various power plants in these 12 states.

According to the statement, the 2,630-MW Anpara Thermal Power Project, located at Sonebhadra in Uttar Pradesh, is at the pit head of a coal mine. There should be 5.96 lakh tonnes of coal in stock at Anpara, whereas at present it has only 3.28 LT.
Similarly, the Harduaganj project should have 4.97 LT of coal in stock but has only 65,700 tonnes. The Obra plant in the state should have 4.45 LT in stock, while there is about 1 LT of coal stock left with it.
Speaking to PTI over phone, Dubey said, "This situation has arisen due to the lack of foresight of the management. In October last year, Parichha thermal power station had to be closed due to coal shortage." According to Dubey, other states which are facing a coal crisis are Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday alleged that the Centre is not ready to accept that there is a coal crisis and its policy to "turn a blind eye" to every problem could prove fatal for the country.
His remarks came after the coal ministry asserted that sufficient dry fuel is available in the country to meet the demand of electricity generating plants and dismissed as "entirely misplaced" any fear of disruption in power supply.
&ldquo;Union Power Minister R K Singh today (Sunday) said there isn't any coal crisis and that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should not have written a letter to the prime minister on the issue. It is sad that a Union cabinet minister has adopted such irresponsible approach,&rdquo; Sisodia said at a press conference here.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said that it clearly showed that the central government is making excuses to "run away" from the crisis and compared the present situation with the oxygen crisis during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in April-May this year.
He alleged that when states and doctors said that there was a shortage of oxygen during the second wave of COVID-19, the Centre did not accept that there was a crisis.
&ldquo;They had done the same thing when the country grappled under an oxygen shortage. They would not even accept that there is a problem. They try to prove states wrong instead,&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sisodia alleged.
The Deputy CM said that the Centre's "habit of turning a blind eye" to every crisis can prove fatal for the country.
&ldquo;The coal crisis can lead to a power crisis which could shut the entire system of the country. It can adversely impact industries,&rdquo; Sisodia said.
He requested the central government to realise the gravity of the situation and make efforts to solve the crisis.

His remarks came after the coal ministry asserted that there is sufficient dry fuel to meet the demand of power plants and dismissed as "entirely misplaced" any fear of disruption in power supply.

Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday alleged that the Centre is not ready to accept that there is a coal crisis and its policy to "turn a blind eye" to every problem could prove fatal for the country.
His remarks came after the coal ministry asserted that sufficient dry fuel is available in the country to meet the demand of electricity generating plants and dismissed as "entirely misplaced" any fear of disruption in power supply.

&ldquo;Union Power Minister R K Singh today (Sunday) said there isn't any coal crisis and that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should not have written a letter to the prime minister on the issue. It is sad that a Union cabinet minister has adopted such irresponsible approach,&rdquo; Sisodia said at a press conference here.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said that it clearly showed that the central government is making excuses to "run away" from the crisis and compared the present situation with the oxygen crisis during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in April-May this year.
He alleged that when states and doctors said that there was a shortage of oxygen during the second wave of COVID-19, the Centre did not accept that there was a crisis.
&ldquo;They had done the same thing when the country grappled under an oxygen shortage. They would not even accept that there is a problem. They try to prove states wrong instead,&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sisodia alleged.
The Deputy CM said that the Centre's "habit of turning a blind eye" to every crisis can prove fatal for the country.
&ldquo;The coal crisis can lead to a power crisis which could shut the entire system of the country. It can adversely impact industries,&rdquo; Sisodia said.
He requested the central government to realise the gravity of the situation and make efforts to solve the crisis.
