A group of UK students got stuck in the US after their passports were mistakenly shredded by their hotel, the BBC reported.
About 42 students from UK's Barr Beacon School, who was on a ski trip to New Hampshire, had to stay for four more days in America after their passports were reportedly discarded by the hotel management.
The BBC report said the students were scheduled to fly back home on February 25 but had to stay extra to get their emergency documents after their passports were destroyed.
The British Embassy confirmed that the documentation process is complete and the students will return home on March 1.&nbsp;

MEA launches mPassport Police app to speed up the verification process

The Ministry of External Affairs announced the introduction of the mPassport Police App on Friday to streamline the police verification process for passport issuance. The Delhi Police Special Branch received 350 mobile tablets on Thursday that enable a paperless verification process and report submission, reducing verification time from 15 to 5 days. The Regional Passport Office (RPO) Delhi highlighted its commitment to efficient service delivery and Digital India on Friday through a tweet that discussed the app's benefits. &nbsp;

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also provided a list of 135 countries whose citizenship was acquired by these individuals.

2022 saw the highest number of Indians renouncing their citizenship in the last 12 years, the Parliament was informed on 9 February 2023.
2,25,620 Indians gave up their citizenship last year. Since 2011, 16 lakh people have renounced their Indian citizenship. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also provided a list of 135 countries whose citizenship was acquired by these individuals.
Jaishankar said the number of Indians who renounced their Indian citizenship in 2015 was 1,31,489, while 1,41,603 people gave it up in 2016 and 1,33,049 in 2017. In 2018, the number was 1,34,561, while 1,44,017 renounced their citizenship in 2019, 85,256 in 2020 and 1,63,370 in 2021. The number in 2022 was 2,25,620, according to the minister.
For reference purposes, Jaishankar said the data for 2011 was 1,22,819, while it was 1,20,923 in 2012, 1,31,405 in 2013 and 1,29,328 in 2014.
The total number of Indians who gave up their Indian citizenship since 2011 comes to 16,63,440.

The Indian passport has been ranked as the 85th most powerful passport in the world, climbing 2 spots from last year, according to an index prepared by a London-based global citizenship firm. Indian passport holders can enter 59 countries visa-free of 227 destinations covered in the report. In 2022, Indian passport holders could enter 60 countries without visa.&nbsp;
The Japanese passport sits at the top of the world's most powerful list with visa-free access to 193 countries.&nbsp; which includes 85% of the world. It has topped the list for the fifth time in a row.&nbsp;
South Korea and Singapore are tied for second spot, allowing their citizens visa-free/visa-on-arrival access to 192 countries.&nbsp;
Germany and Spain are ranked third, with visa-free access to 190 across the world.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, on the lower end of the spectrum, Afghanistan allows its citizens visa-free access to only 27 countries, 166 less than that of Japanese.&nbsp; Afghanistan is joined at the bottom by Iraq and Syria ranked 108 and 107 respectively. Iraqi passports give a visa-free access to 29 places while Syria does so for 30 countries.&nbsp;
The UK and the US remain in 6th and 7th places, with scores of 187 and 186, respectively, and it appears increasingly unlikely that either country will ever regain the top spot on the index which they jointly held nearly a decade ago in 2014, according to the Index.&nbsp;
Henley &amp; Partners is a London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm which releases an index of the world's most powerful passports every year. This list is created on the basis of exclusive data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).&nbsp;
According the the firm, the index contains 199 passports and 227 travel destinations, giving users the most extensive and reliable information about their global access and mobility.&nbsp;
'It is the original ranking of all the world&rsquo;s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa,' the firm said.&nbsp;

China says it will resume issuing passports for tourism in another big step away from anti-virus controls that isolated the country for almost three years, setting up a potential flood of Chinese going abroad for next month's Lunar New Year holiday.
The announcement on Tuesday adds to abrupt changes that are rolling back some of the world's strictest anti-virus controls as President Xi Jinping's government tries to reverse an economic slump.
Rules that confined millions of people to their homes kept China's infection rate low but fuelled public frustration and crushed economic growth.

The latest decision could send free-spending Chinese tourists to revenue-starved destinations in Asia and Europe for Lunar New Year, which begins on January 22 and usually is the country's busiest travel season. But it also presents a danger they might spread COVID-19 as infections surge in China.
Japan, India, South Korea and Taiwan have responded to the wave of infections by requiring virus tests for visitors from China.
China stopped issuing visas to foreigners and passports to its own people at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.
The National Immigration Administration of China said it will start taking applications from January 8 for passports for tourists to go abroad.
The agency said it will take applications to extend, renew or reissue visas but gave no indication when they might be issued to first-time applicants.
China will &ldquo;gradually resume&rdquo; admitting foreign visitors, the agency said. It gave no indication when tourist travel from abroad might resume.
The changes will &ldquo;create better conditions for orderly cross-border travel" and "bring more benefits to global economic development,&rdquo; said a foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin.
China will &ldquo;work with all countries&rdquo; to &ldquo;restore safety and stability to global,industrial and supply chains and promote world economic recovery&rdquo;, Wang said.
Health experts and economists expect the ruling Communist Party to keep limits on travel into China until at least mid-2023 while it carries out a campaign to vaccinate millions of elderly people. Experts say that is necessary to prevent a public health crisis.
During the pandemic, Chinese with family emergencies or work travel deemed important could obtain passports, but some students and businesspeople with visas to go to foreign countries were blocked by border guards from leaving.
The handful of foreign businesspeople and others who were allowed into China were quarantined for up to one week.
Before the pandemic, China was the biggest source of foreign tourists for most of its Asian neighbours and an important market for Europe and the United States.
The government has dropped or eased most quarantine, testing and other restrictions within China, joining the United States, Japan and other governments in trying to live with the virus instead of stamping out transmission.
Japan and India have begun requiring virus tests for travellers from China. South Korea tests all visitors with elevated temperatures. South Korea says anyone who tests positive will be quarantined at home or in a hotel for a week.
South Korean officials said possible additional measures for arrivals from China will be announced on Friday.
US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to relate internal discussions, said Washington is considering taking similar steps.
Taiwan on Wednesday announced visitors from China will be tested starting January 1.
On Monday, the Chinese government said it would scrap quarantine requirements for travellers arriving from abroad, also effective from January 8.
Foreign companies welcomed the change as an important step to revive slumping business activity.
Business groups have warned global companies were shifting investment away from China because foreign executives were blocked from visiting.
The American Chamber of Commerce in China says more than 70 per cent of companies that responded to a poll this month expect the impact of the latest wave of outbreaks to last no more than three months, ending in early 2023.
The government has stopped reporting nationwide case numbers but announcements by some cities indicate at least tens and possibly hundreds of millions of people might have been infected since the surge began in early October.
Experts have forecast 1 million to 2 million deaths in China through the end of 2023.
Also on Monday, the government downgraded the official seriousness of COVID-19 and removed it from a list of illnesses that require quarantine. It said authorities would stop tracking close contacts and designating areas as being at high or low risk of infection.&nbsp;

But&nbsp;Midhun Babu&nbsp;story is unique. Babu&nbsp;in&nbsp;Kerala's Wayanad district placed an order on Amazon for a passport cover, however, he received the delivery along with an original passport.
The passport belonged to Muhammad Salih, a resident of Kunnamkulam in Thrissur.
Mithun reported the issue to Amazon customer care, but says they didn't help.
Mithun then used the address on the passport to contact Salih and return the passport.
According to Mithun, Salih ordered had ordered the same passport cover from Amazon and but later decided to return it. However, he forgot to take out his passport before returning the order.

Under the new approach, he said, "the police would scrutinise social media accounts to check if they were habitual posters of anti-national posts&rdquo;.
