Paresh Rawal&rsquo;s film The Taj Story faces backlash over its poster showing the Taj Mahal linked with Lord Shiva. Makers clarify it&rsquo;s based on history, not religion.

Actor Paresh Rawal's upcoming film "The Taj Story" has sparked a huge controversy over its poster depicting him removing the dome of the Taj Mahal and a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from it, prompting the filmmakers to say it does not "deal with any religious matters".
Presented by Swarnim Global Service Pvt Ltd, the movie is directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and produced by CA Suresh Jha.
Rawal and the filmmakers released the poster of the film on Monday.
The poster caption reads, "What if everything you&rsquo;ve been taught is a lie? The truth isn&rsquo;t just hidden; it&rsquo;s being judged. Unveil the facts with #TheTajStory on 31st October in cinemas near you," read the caption.

The backlash was swift with many social media users terming it "propaganda" and "fake".
Swarnim Global Service Pvt Ltd countered with a statement shortly after.
"The makers of the film 'The Taj Story' clarify that the movie does not deal with any religious matters, nor does it claim that a Shiv temple resides within the Taj Mahal. It focuses solely on historical facts. We would kindly request you to watch the film and form your own opinion," it said.

But the debate continued.
Several people said it appeared to be the latest example of propaganda in cinema after recently released titles like "The Udaipur Files" and "The Bengal Files".
"Looking at the poster, it seems like an attempt to portray the Taj Mahal as a religious site. The Taj Mahal is the tomb of two lovers. Nothing more than that.
"In the medieval period, all the European travelers who came to India, whether Fran&ccedil;ois Bernier, Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, or Peter Mundy, described the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum built by Shah Jahan, not a temple," said one user on X.
Another user criticised Rawal for doing a movie like "The Taj Story".
"What a downfall @SirPareshRawal. From 'OMG' to #fake 'The Taj Story'," posted the user, referring to Rawal's critically-acclaimed 2012 movie "Oh My God", in which he played an atheist lawyer who sues God.
"The film The Taj Story revives the debunked claim that the Taj Mahal was once a Hindu temple. Historians reject it as pseudo-history, but critics fear it fuels communal divides. The Taj remains a 17th-century Mughal masterpiece - India&rsquo;s shared heritage," a user posted.
Another post read, "Bollywood now pushing propaganda with #TheTajStory a film twisting history by showing the Taj Mahal as a temple. A country boasting of being the 4th largest economy is drowning in fantasy &amp; communal myths. When propaganda feels ashamed, you know it&rsquo;s India 2025." A person called Taj Mahal "India&rsquo;s pride in global tourism".
"But BJP/filmmakers wants to rewrite its story with The Taj Story movie&mdash;turning heritage into propaganda. History doesn&rsquo;t change just because you want votes," the person posted.
Rawal was BJP MP from Ahmedabad East from 2014 to 2019.
Though the plotline film remains unclear, the makers had said in an earlier statement that the film raises the "questions and the secrets that are buried behind the 22 sealed doors of The Taj Mahal".
The movie also "promises to present a chapter from Indian history that no one has ever dared to present before", the makers claimed.
On August 14 this year, Rawal, 70, had shared a brief scene from the movie on his social media handles. He captioned it, "After 79 year of Independence are we still a slave of Intellectual Terrorism?" The courtroom scene showed Rawal's character arguing in front of the judges and saying, "Azaadi ke 78 saal baad bhi humari soch, nazariya unhi logo ke talve chaat raha hai jinhone lesh matra sankoch nahi kiya humari poori sabhyata ko khatam karne ki, humare astitva ko mitane ki. (Even after 78 years of independence, our thinking and perspective still bow down to those who did not hesitate in the slightest to try and destroy our entire civilisation and erase our existence)." The character then says it is time to now raise questions.
"If we do not raise them today, our history and our very existence will remain nothing more than questions," he adds.
The cast of "The Taj Story" also includes actors Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Namit Das.

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has confirmed his return to the third installment of the comedy franchise "Hera Pheri", saying that everything is resolved now.
In May this year, Rawal had announced his exit from the third part, which would have reunited him with franchise co-stars Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty as well as filmmaker Priyadarshan. The news had come as a huge shock to the ardent fanbase of the hit comedy franchise.
What followed was a lawsuit filed by Akshay, who is also the producer on the project through his company Cape of Good Films.
Rawal has now joined back the movie, an announcement he made during his recent appearance on a podcast.
"Pehle bhi aane hi waali thi (it was supposed to come before also), but it&rsquo;s just that we had to fine-tune ourselves. After all, all of them are creative, be it Priyadarshan, Akshay or Suniel. They are friends for many, many, many years," Rawal said on Himanshu Mehta's podcast.
The veteran actor also said there is no "controversy", referring to Akshay's lawsuit, which sought Rs 25 crore in damages.
"I believe that when people have loved something so much, then you have to be extra careful. It is our responsibility toward the audience. The audience has given you so much adulation.
"You can&rsquo;t take things for granted. Mehnat karke unko (film) do. So, I was of the opinion that sab saath mein aaye, mehnat kare (everyone should come together and work hard). Aur kuch nahin (Nothing else). It is all resolved now," he added.
Directed by Priyadarshan, "Hera Pheri" released in 2000 and revolved around a quirky, kind-hearted garage owner Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Rawal), a cunning loafer Raju (Kumar) and a struggling pauper Shyam (Shetty).
The trio returned with a sequel "Phir Hera Pheri" in 2006, which was directed by Neeraj Vora.&nbsp;

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal announced that Kartik Aaryan was roped in for &lsquo;Hera Pheri 3&rsquo; in November 2022 and it soon created a stir on social media.
Many had strongly expressed their disappointment with Kartik reportedly replacing Akshay Kumar in the hit franchise. Now, Kartik is no longer a part of the franchise and recently Paresh Rawal opened up about the whole fiasco around the cast of &lsquo;Hera Pheri 3&rsquo;.
He said, &lsquo;Kartik Aaryan had a different role in the film. He was not supposed to play Raju, which was played by Akshay Kumar in the first two films. Kartik's character wasn't cut from the same cloth as Raju and was made with a different fabric. Kartik's role was different and had a different kind of energy than Raju's. The premise of his character was different. One shouldn't be afraid of backlash. And once people watch a film, they forget all the backlashes.&rsquo;
In an earlier interview, the veteran actor had mentioned that he was 'sick and tired' of the reels, memes, and jokes made out of his character - Baburao Apte.

Talking to Mid-Day, the actor said, &lsquo;As far as I know, initially, both Kartik and Akshay were to do the film, but it didn&rsquo;t work out. I don&rsquo;t know what happened.&rsquo;
The actor also shared that the film will go on the floors in three months and it will see Raju, Shyam and Babu Bhaiya going abroad. He said, &lsquo;We&rsquo;ll begin shooting in three months. It will be a [long] schedule in Mumbai. The movie will also be shot in international locations like Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Los Angeles, as Babu bhaiyya, Raju and Shyam go abroad. They&rsquo;ll do hera pheri globally.

Gujarat polls speech: Calcutta HC quashes FIR against actor Paresh Rawal

The court noted that Rawal, who had moved a petition before it seeking quashing of the FIR, has already given clarifications and tendered an apology over the speech in question.

&nbsp;Calcutta High Court on Monday quashed an FIR filed against actor Paresh Rawal by the CPI(M)'s West Bengal unit secretary Mohd Salim who claimed that the Padma Shri awardee had made derogatory comments against the Bengali community. The court noted that Rawal, who had moved a petition before it seeking quashing of the FIR, has already given clarifications and tendered an apology over the speech in question. It said the speech was made in Gujarati and some of the criticisms that have been made against the speech are by persons who may not necessarily understand the language. Considering all aspects of the case, Justice Rajasekhar Mantha quashed the FIR, observing that further continuation of the proceedings was not desirable.
Advocate Varun Chugh, counsel for Rawal, said the FIR was registered with the intention to gain political mileage with ulterior motives.
"It is evident that it is a politically motivated FIR to damage the reputation of a celebrity and public figure like my client," he said. Rawal, a former BJP MP, stated in the petition that his speech delivered in Gujarati on November 29, during a campaign for the Gujarat assembly elections last year, was misinterpreted and mistranslated for political vendetta. He maintained that he has given clarifications on his statement and apologised on December 2, the same date when Salim filed an FIR at Taltala police station in Kolkata.

Rawal had taken up the subject of gas cylinder prices at the BJP rally in Gujarat's Valsad earlier this month where he took a "cook fish for Bengalis" jibe seemingly at Rohingya migrants.
"Gas cylinders are expensive, but their price will come down. People will get employment too. But what will happen if Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshis start living around you, like in Delhi? "What will you do with gas cylinders? Cook fish for the Bengalis?" the former BJP MP had said.
He was booked under various sections of the IPC after CPI(M) leader and the party's state secretary Mohammed Salim lodged a complaint against him, alleging that the actor's utterances tantamounted to hate speech, which could promote feelings of hatred against Bengalis.
Rawal, however, apologised for his comments following a huge backlash on social media.&nbsp;

CPI(M) MP Md Salim in his complaint said he came across a video on various social media platforms featuring Paresh Rawal giving a speech that could promote feelings of hatred against Bengalis.

The Kolkata Police has booked actor Paresh Rawal under different sections of the IPC on a complaint filed by CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim, who alleged that he delivered "hate speech" against the Bengali community during an election rally of the BJP in Gujarat.
A case has been registered against Rawal under IPC sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 153B (propagates denial of rights to linguistic or racial groups), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements intending public mischief), police said in a communication to Salim.
Salim in his complaint to the Taltala police station on Thursday said he came across a video on various social media platforms featuring the actor giving a speech that could promote feelings of hatred against Bengalis.
Seeking the actor's prosecution, Salim claimed that Rawal had made an unsavoury reference to Bengalis linking gas cylinders with Bangladeshis, Rohingyas, Bengalis and fish.
Rawal apologised on Friday following a huge backlash on the social media over his comments.
"Of course, the fish is not the issue as Gujaratis do cook and eat fish. But let me clarify by Bengali I meant illegal Bangladeshi N Rohingya. But still if I have hurt your feelings and sentiments I do apologise," the 67-year-old actor and former BJP MP wrote on Twitter.
Rawal had taken up the issue of gas cylinder prices, an emotive poll issue, at a BJP rally in Valsad district on Tuesday.
"Gas cylinders are expensive, but their price will come down. People will get employment too. But what will happen if Rohingya migrants and Bangladeshis start living around you, like in Delhi? ... What will you do with gas cylinders? Cook fish for the Bengalis?" Rawal had said.

&lsquo;Hera Pheri&rsquo; fans were eagerly waiting to watch Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty reunite for the third part. However, it looks like Kartik Aaryan will be replacing Akshay in the franchise.
Paresh, who played the character of Babu Rao in the first two films, confirmed that the young actor will be a part of the third film. On Twitter, a fan asked Paresh if the rumours of Kartik being a part of the third installment of the popular franchise were true. To which, Rawal said, &lsquo;Yes it&rsquo;s true.&rsquo;
A recent Pinkvilla report stated that Akshay was keen to revisit the iconic film, but he has decided to take a step back as he couldn&rsquo;t align with the broad script ideas.
A source told the publication that Akshay Kumar is well aware of his fans&rsquo; expectations of him in these comedy franchises. However, he refused to compromise on the quality of these scripts, as attempts to remake these sequels without proper thought and with other actors have already failed in the past.
According to Pinkvilla, &lsquo;Hera Pheri 3&rsquo; was announced earlier with Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. The film even went on floors, but the shooting was stalled mid-way due to multiple reasons.
After the success of his last film &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2&rsquo;, Kartik Aaryan has multiple projects in the pipeline.

'Hera Pheri,' the iconic comedy-drama, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, is all set to return for part 3. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, producer Firoz Nadiadwala confirmed that 'Hera Pheri 3' is in the works and will return with the original star cast. 
Nadiadwala told the publication that the team is currently working on the script and the official announcement will be made soon.
'The story is in place, and we are working on certain modalities. It’ll be made in the same way, retaining the innocence of the characters. We can’t take past achievements for granted. So, we have to be extra careful in terms of our content, story, screenplay, characters, mannerism etc,' he told Bollywood Hungama.

Their on-screen chemistry is adorable as always. Parmeet Sethi's presence lit up the screen.
Director Hitesh Bhatia has done complete justice to Rishi Kapoor and the film. He ensured to retain the simplicity and charm of the actor. The shift between Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal was smooth. The writing is crisp, honest, non-dramatic, and definitely not preachy! But above all, Sharmaji is 'entertaining'.
