Islamabad, April 16 &mdash; Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir on Wednesday raked up the two-nation theory, stating that Pakistan and India are fundamentally different nations.
Speaking at the Overseas Pakistani Convention in Islamabad, Munir urged citizens to pass on the history of Pakistan&rsquo;s creation to future generations.
&ldquo;Our forefathers believed we were different from Hindus in every possible aspect of life,&rdquo; Munir said.
&ldquo;Our religion is different, our customs are different, our traditions are different, our thoughts are different, our ambitions are different. That&rsquo;s where the foundation of the two-nation theory was laid. We are two nations, we are not one nation.&rdquo;
The army chief emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made for Pakistan and preserving the national identity among overseas Pakistani communities.
&ldquo;Our forefathers have sacrificed immensely, and we have sacrificed a lot for the creation of this country, and we know how to defend it,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;Please don&rsquo;t forget the story of Pakistan and don&rsquo;t forget to narrate the story of Pakistan to your next generation, so that their bond with Pakistan never weakens.&rdquo;

He also vowed to crack down on terrorists in Balochistan, stating that "even ten generations of terrorists cannot harm Balochistan and Pakistan," reported ANI, citing local media.
Munir emphasised the army's determination to tackle terrorism and praised overseas Pakistanis for their dedication and commitment to the nation.
"We will beat the hell out of these terrorists very soon ...you think, these 1500 terrorists belonging to BLA, BLF and BRA, etc, can take away Balochistan from us&hellip;" Munir asked, according to ANI.

"Based on the irrefutable evidence collected so far, Armed Forces are well aware of the planners, instigators, abettors, and perpetrators of these attacks, and attempts to create distortions in this regard are absolutely futile,&rdquo; the statement said.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held back-to-back meetings with top Punjab officials and the secretary and additional secretary of the federal defence ministry to discuss security for the elections.
Elections in the Punjab province of Pakistan are scheduled to be held on April 30, while in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the governor has proposed to hold elections in the province on May 28.
Defence Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Hamood Uz Zaman Khan led a team of his ministry in a meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said in a press statement on Tuesday that the defence secretary along with Additional Secretary Maj Gen Khurram Sarfraz Khan briefed the CEC and ECP officials on the country&rsquo;s prevalent situation and the military&rsquo;s deployment.
&ldquo;They said that the Army attaches importance to its basic duties, in which the security of the borders and the country is its first priority. They said that the Army is not available for election duty at this time due to the present situation in the country,&rdquo; the ECP statement read.
The defence secretary also said that finally, it would be the government&rsquo;s decision if it wanted to keep the military restricted to its primary duties or appoint it for secondary tasks such as election-related duties.
&ldquo;They also clarified that in case of election duty, the Army can be deployed in quick reaction force mode but it is not possible to perform duty in static mode,&rdquo; according to the statement.

Pakistan's Ministry of Finance and Revenue ordered the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) to stop clearing bills of federal ministries and departments, according to sources quoted by The News International.
However, salaries and pensions of defence-related institutions were already cleared for March 2023, as per the report.
The Shehbaz Sharif government is currently battling with low foreign exchange reserves, a plummeting currency, electricity outages, and consequent political instability.
Finance Minister Dar while meeting on February 22 with a delegation of Rothschild and Co had said "the government was steering the economy towards stability and growth". He added that "the government is committed to completing the IMF programme and fulfilling all international obligations".
Dar's commitment to unlocking the IMF tranche was visible on February 20 when the national assembly had unanimously approved the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2023 or "mini-budget" - a move mandatory for seeking funding. The bill increases sales tax from 17 to 25 per cent on imports ranging from cars and household appliances to chocolates and cosmetics. A general sales tax was raised from 17 to 18 per cent.
"The prime minister will also unveil austerity measures in the next few days," the minister told the lower house of parliament as the bill was passed, adding "we will have to take difficult decisions".

The proposed legislation states that anyone who ridicules or scandalises the Army or judiciary through any medium will face a prison sentence of upto 5 years, or a fine of Rs 1 million, or both. Further, the accused can be arrested without a warrant, and the offence will be non-bailable and non-compoundable.
The cabinet summary states that recently the country has witnessed a spate of scandalous, derogatory and vicious attacks on certain institutions of the state, including the judiciary and armed forces, according to news outlet Dawn, as reported by PTI.
It adds that it is well-known that a deliberate cyber campaign has been launched by certain wings for self-serving motives with the objective of inciting and nurturing hatred against important state institutions and their officials, the report said.
It also states that such attacks are focused on undermining the integrity, stability and independence of the country&rsquo;s state institutions. The summary says that judicial and army officials do not have the opportunity to step forward and negate scandalous, derogatory remarks while appearing in the media.

Talking to the media on Thursday in London after meeting with a delegation of senior PML-N leaders from Pakistan, Sharif recalled his 2016 Gujranwala speech at the PML-N public gathering where he directly accused the ex-military men of rigging elections to make way for installing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2018.
At the time, Sharif blamed the military top brass for installing PTI's Khan as the prime minister in violation of the Constitution, removing his government, muzzling the media, pressurising the judiciary, and victimising opposition politicians, the report said.
When asked if he held Gen Bajwa and Gen Hamid responsible for the state of the country, he said: &ldquo;The reality is before everyone. Now no name or face is hidden. Pakistan was used for personal gain. It was a cruel joke played on the nation." "Lt Gen (retd) Faiz and Gen (retd) Bajwa were responsible for making it all about their personalities, wishes, and desires," the 73-year-old Sharif said.
He said that the people of Pakistan are well aware of the &ldquo;faces and characters of the two retired generals who are believed to be behind implementing the Tabdeeli project originally envisioned by former intelligence chiefs General (retd) Shuja Pasha, General (retd) Zaheer-ul-Islam and their colleagues." "It is my responsibility to tell the nation about the wrongs committed against the people, and it is my responsibility to make things right,&rdquo; Sharif was quoted as saying by the Dawn newspaper.
Talking about the meeting with his daughter and PML-N senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz and party leaders, Sharif said that he discussed Pakistan&rsquo;s current situation with them.
&ldquo;Inshallah, all will be well. Pakistan will come out of the difficulties and we will make sure that happens. Our track record of progress is a witness and it&rsquo;s not possible that we will not make that happen," he said.
The PML-N meeting comes at a time of heightened political activity in Pakistan as both Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies dissolved.
Calling the PTI chief Imran Khan a "mad man", Nawaz said, &ldquo;Compare his [performance during the] four years of [PTI] government with four years of our government and you will see how happy and prosperous people were in two tenures and how he [Khan] destroyed Pakistan,&rdquo; Nawaz was quoted as saying.
He further added that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) took over the government after winning the vote of no-confidence to &ldquo;save Pakistan from this madman&rdquo; because &ldquo;he had created a catastrophic situation for Pakistan.&rdquo;&nbsp;

As the common people of Pakistan were struggling after devastating floods with followed the Covid pandemic, Pakistan Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa was apparently busy making his family filthy rich.
In the 6 years that Bajwa was head of the Pakistan Army, the wealth of his family reportedly zoomed from paltry amounts to 12.7 billion Pakistani rupees, or around 460 crore in Indian rupees.
Here's a breakdown of the family's riches, and also the surprising reaction of the Pakistani government.
The wealth of the Bajwa family is in the headlines after a news report in an outlet called FactsFocus. Tax details of Pakistan Army's outgoing chief apparently show that Gen Bajwa's extended family became billionaires after 2016 when he took the top job. The wealth of many of his relatives went from zero to billions within a few short years. Bajwa's family acquired Rs 12.7 billion in various types of assets and businesses. These properties and businesses are based both inside and outside Pakistan.
Here's how the financial status of Bajwa's wife, daughter-in-law, and others changed.
Ayesha Amjad, the wife of General Bajwa, was not filing tax returns when her husband became a Lieutenant General. Her wealth was zero in 2016, but increased to Rs 2.2 billion in 2022 according to her tax information. This amount excludes houses, residential plots, and commercial plots given to Bajwa by the Pakistan Army.
Next is Mahnoor Sabir, who is Bajwa's daughter-in-law. Her wealth was zero in October 2018, but rose Rs 1.2 billion just a month later, when she was getting married. Her tax filings in 2018 said the properties had been acquired between 2014 and 2016, but not declared. Mahnoor also became the manager of an oil company named Taxx Petroleum Pakistan in November 2019.
The tax returns of Sabir 'Mithu' Hameed - Bajwa's friend and the father-in-law of his eldest son - were less than Rs 1 million in 2013. However, in subsequent years, his wealth reportedly rose to billions. Sabir and his brother Nasir are also directors in Taxx Petroleum Pakistan.
Then there is Hamna Naseer, the sister of Bajwa's daughter-in-law. She had zero assets in 2016, but it rose to billions by the next year.
These are just the known and declared amounts. FactsFocus said that it was not able to get details of Bajwa's two sons.
The family's declared assets reportedly include an international business, farmhouses in Islamabad and Karachi, a massive real estate portfolio in Lahore, multiple foreign properties, commercial plazas, and commercial plots.
The Shehbaz Sharif government in Pakistan had an interesting reaction to the revelations. Instead of questioning how Bajwa's family acquired so much wealth, the government targeted the news portal.
The Pakistani government ordered a probe into the leaking of Bajwa family's financial details. The Finance Minister called leakage of the tax information "illegal" and "unwarranted". The Minister said that the incident violated tax information's confidentiality, and ordered an investigation by Special Assistant to Pakistan PM on Revenue.
Meanwhile, the news publication - FactsFocus - has claimed that after releasing the story, traffic on its website was disrupted, and the site was also banned in Pakistan.
The common people of Pakistan have been suffering under austerity measures imposed by the IMF for helping the economy. This has exacerbated the hardships caused by the Covid pandemic, and the recent floods.
In such a situation, if the chief of Pakistan's Army was misusing his position to make his own family richer, and the government fails to investigate this, then it will only reinforce the perception that Pakistan's elected government is just a puppet of the military.

Six Pakistan Army officials, including two majors, were killed in a helicopter crash in southwestern Balochistan province, the military said on Monday, the second such incident after another military helicopter crashed in the same province last month.

On Tuesday, an explosion triggered by a burqa-clad woman suicide bomber from the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) ripped through a van of the Confucius Institute at the prestigious University of Karachi, leaving three Chinese teachers dead and one injured, in the latest targeted attack against Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
Following the incident, the banned BLA took to social media to claim responsibility and announce that the bomber was a woman named Shaari Baloch who was highly educated mother of two young children, belonging to a well-established family and working as a school teacher in her native Turbat, Balochistan.
The Anti-Terrorism Department of the Sindh Police also identified the bomber who was born in Turbat in 1991 but settled in Kech district of the restive Baluchistan province.
“Initial investigations confirmed she was part of the banned Majeed brigade, a part of the BLA which has brainwashed these suicide bombers,” an official of the Anti-Terrorism Department said.
“We are looking into possiblities that there might be more female suicide bombers brainwashed to become part of the Majeed Brigade and waiting in sleeper cells," he said.
He confirmed that initial investigations had shown that Shari Baloch did not carry out the attack independently and was guided and helped by her handlers/facilitators, including a woman who met her at the entrance of the university and apparently briefed her before she went to the entrance of the Confucius Institute where she detonated herself as soon as the coaster van carrying the Chinese academics came.
“We suspect this operation was carried out with inside information,” the official said.
On Wednesday, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab Police have arrested a suspect from Lahore's Punjab University in connection with the suicide bombing at the Karachi University.
The intelligence agencies tracked down a suspect with whom Shari Baloch remained in contact by cellphone in Lahore and arrested him during a raid at a hostel of the Punjab University, a source in CTD told PTI on Thursday.
The suspect has been identified as Bebagr Imdad, a student of the seventh semester of English Literature in Numl, Islamabad. He also belongs to the area where Shaari Baloch lived.
"The agencies are picking up all those who remained in contact with Shaari before she blew herself up and Bebagr was one of them," he said.
A Punjab University spokesperson Khurram Shahzad told PTI that Bebagr had come to Lahore two days ago from Islamabad.
"On Tuesday, he visited his cousin at hostel 7 who is a history department student. On Wednesday, a security agency official approached the varsity administration and told it that it needed to take Bebagr into custody for his alleged link with the Karachi University bombing. The Punjab University obliged the request and now he is being interrogated," Shehzad said.
Some 300 students from Balochistan are currently studying at the Punjab University.
The security agencies are now searching for the husband of Shari Baloch, Dr Haibatan, who was apparently doing a public health course at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and was staying at a nearby hotel. However, his wife lived in Gulistan-i-Jauhar with her two children.
Counter-Terrorism Department official Raja Umar Khatab said that Shari Baloch and her husband had left their places a week before the attack and the husband’s whereabouts were not known. Raids were being carried out to find the husband and other facilitators, he said.
The CTD official also made it clear that Shari Baloch was not a student at the KU and in fact had done her BE and ME from the University of Balochistan and had also worked as a government teacher.
The officer said that the outlawed BLA had claimed responsibility for the attack and shared details about the attacker on their social media platforms. “We also suspect the involvement of a hostile foreign agency in this attack,” he said.
Meanwhile, the members of Baloch Student Council at Punjab University held a demonstration outside the varsity and demanded release of Bebagr. They said the “abduction of Bebagr" was part of ongoing disappearances and harassment of the Baloch students in the country. They said they would continue their protest till the release of Bebagr from the agencies' custody.
The suicide bombing at the Karachi University seems to be the harbinger of a 'new and unexpected dimension' in the dynamics of terrorism in Pakistan, particularly the Baloch insurgency.
Meanwhile, Additional Police Surgeon at the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Hospital Dr Summaiya Syed said that the four people who were injured in the bomb blast, including a fourth Chinese teacher, Wang Yuqing, are out of danger.
Those killed in the suicide bombing included three Chinese faculty members and their Pakistani driver, Khalid Nawaz.
In the FIR lodged about the incident by SHO Basharat Hussain, the BLA Majeed Brigade militant commanders Bashir Zaib and Rehman Gul and others were involved in the attack.
The FIR says the BLA wanted to undermine relations between Pakistan and China and get publicity for their outlawed outfit through terrorist acts, the FIR added.
The security forces on Thursday raided the house of the father of the bomber in a society located in Karachi’s Scheme 33. Laptops and other evidence, including documents, were seized during the raid.
The Security agencies in Balochistan on Wednesday also searched the apartment of the suicide bomber in Gulistan-e-Johar and sealed it afterwards. The apartment was rented and the bomber had been living there for the last three years.
The Karachi University reopened for the first time on Thursday after the suicide attack.
The university's spokesperson said that administrative affairs and the teaching process in the university will continue as usual. However, the Confucius Institute will remain closed until clearance from the Chinese embassy.
Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the Chinese embassy in Islamabad shortly after he took charge on Wednesday.
Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told a press conference that the government was reviewing the National Action Plan against terrorism and would bring the perpetrators of the Karachi bombing to justice.
China has demanded stern action against the militant organisations behind the attack. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin during a media briefing asked Pakistan to scale-up security for its nationals working in the country and demanded a thorough investigation and punishment to the perpetrators behind the suicide attack.
The attack that too by a woman suicide bomber from BLA, which is vocally opposing the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), sent shock waves in China as it highlights deep rooted opposition to Chinese projects. Balochistan, bordering Iran and Afghanistan, is home to a long-running violent insurgency. Baloch insurgent groups have previously carried out several attacks targeting the CPEC projects.

In the FIR lodged about the incident by SHO Basharat Hussain, the BLA Majeed Brigade militant commanders Bashir Zaib and Rehman Gul and others were involved in the attack.
The FIR says the BLA wanted to undermine relations between Pakistan and China and get publicity for their outlawed outfit through terrorist acts, the FIR added.
The security forces on Thursday raided the house of the father of the bomber in a society located in Karachi&rsquo;s Scheme 33. Laptops and other evidence, including documents, were seized during the raid.
The Security agencies in Balochistan on Wednesday also searched the apartment of the suicide bomber in Gulistan-e-Johar and sealed it afterwards. The apartment was rented and the bomber had been living there for the last three years.
The Karachi University reopened for the first time on Thursday after the suicide attack.
The university's spokesperson said that administrative affairs and the teaching process in the university will continue as usual. However, the Confucius Institute will remain closed until clearance from the Chinese embassy.
Newly-appointed Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the Chinese embassy in Islamabad shortly after he took charge on Wednesday.
Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb told a press conference that the government was reviewing the National Action Plan against terrorism and would bring the perpetrators of the Karachi bombing to justice.
China has demanded stern action against the militant organisations behind the attack. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin during a media briefing asked Pakistan to scale-up security for its nationals working in the country and demanded a thorough investigation and punishment to the perpetrators behind the suicide attack.
The attack that too by a woman suicide bomber from BLA, which is vocally opposing the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), sent shock waves in China as it highlights deep rooted opposition to Chinese projects.
