Pakistan ex-minister 'kidnapped' by police: Shireen Mazari's daughter's claim; Imran Khan slams Sharif

In a fresh political controversy in Pakistan, a former minister was claimed to have been "kidnapped" by police. Shireen Mazari, who was a member of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's cabinet, was arrested on May 21.

Mazari has been criticising the Pakistan Army since Imran Khan lost the PM chair in a no-confidence motion in April 2022. Shireen Mazari's daughter Imaan accused police of beating up and abducting her mother, stating, "My mother was kidnapped, I won't say arrested. When the police arrest someone, they inform you on what charge the person is taken away for."

Imran Khan slammed his successor Shehbaz Sharif for the arrest. Khan called Sharif's government "imported" and "fascist". The former PM added, "Our movement is completely peaceful but this fascist, imported govt wants to push the country towards chaos. As if sending the economy into tailspin wasn't enough, they now want anarchy to avoid elections."

Workers and supporters of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf staged protests against the arrests.
