The film remains a sensitive topic in the nation which faced the apocalyptic results of Oppenheimer&rsquo;s invention- atomic bombs. After more than eight months of its US release, film&rsquo;s release in Japan was being seen with a feeling of anxiety.&nbsp;

79 years ago, two cities of Japan were completely destroyed by the nuclear weapons invented by the American scientist who was the subject of the Oscar winning film. Japanese moviegoers had mixed and highly emotional reaction to the film.&nbsp; &ldquo;Oppenheimer&rdquo; does not directly depict what happened on the ground when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film instead focuses on Oppenheimer as a person and his internal conflicts.&nbsp;

Toshiyuki Mimaki, who survived the bombing of Hiroshima when he was 3, saw &ldquo;Oppenheimer&rdquo; at a preview event and said &ldquo;During the whole movie, I was waiting and waiting for the Hiroshima bombing scene to come on, but it never did,&rdquo; &nbsp; &ldquo;From Hiroshima's standpoint, the horror of nuclear weapons was not sufficiently depicted,&rdquo; former Hiroshima Mayor Takashi Hiraoka was quoted as saying by Japanese media. &ldquo;The film was made in a way to validate the conclusion that the atomic bomb was used to save the lives of Americans,&rdquo; he added. &nbsp;
Takashi Yamazaki, director of &ldquo;Godzilla Minus One&rdquo;, which won the Oscar for visual effects and is a powerful statement on nuclear catastrophe in its own way, suggested there needs to be to an answer from Japan to 'Oppenheimer'. In an online dialogue with &lsquo;Oppenheimer&rsquo; director Christopher Nolan, Yamazaki said, &ldquo;Someday, I would like to make that movie.&rdquo; Nolan heartily agreed.&nbsp;

Nolan secured his first Academy Award, triumphing as Best Director for his historical drama &lsquo;Oppenheimer,&rsquo; which delves into the story of the man responsible for the atomic bomb's development during World War Two.
Nolan was widely expected to clinch the Oscar, having previously garnered Best Director accolades at the Golden Globes, BAFTA, Critics Choice, and the Directors Guild of America earlier this year.
In addition to directing, Christopher Nolan also penned the screenplay for &lsquo;Oppenheimer&rsquo; and served as a producer alongside his wife, Emma Thomas. The film garnered a total of 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and a Best Actor nod for Cillian Murphy, who portrayed J. Robert Oppenheimer, famously dubbed &lsquo;the father of the atomic bomb.&rsquo;
Reflecting on the film's narrative, Nolan shared with Reuters before its premiere last summer, &lsquo;Oppenheimer's story is one of the most dramatic that I know of, and there are many, many aspects to what makes it so compelling.&rsquo;
Oppenheimer led the secret Los Alamos Laboratory, created under President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the Manhattan Project to construct the first atomic bomb. He supervised the inaugural detonation of the atomic bomb in the New Mexico desert, codenamed "Trinity," preceding the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
Regarding its box office performance, the film has amassed over $957 million in global ticket sales.

Information &amp; Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has expressed displeasure with CBFC officials for clearing the 'objectionable scenes' in Christopher Nolan&rsquo;s film &lsquo;Oppenheimer&rsquo;, Indian Express said.&nbsp;
The minister has reportedly asked the censor board officials to remove the scenes which show the titular character played by actor Cillian Murphy indulging in a sexual act while reading out verses from a religious text, which appears to be Bhagavad Gita.&nbsp;

Robert Oppenheimer is called the &lsquo;father of the atom bomb&rsquo; for leading the team of scientists who developed the lethal weapon and tested it in 1945.
The man behind the &lsquo;bomb to end all wars&rsquo;, however, struggled to come to terms with the dangers he had helped unleash.&nbsp;
The first atom bomb was tested on July 16, 1945, in a New Mexico desert and less than a month later, two of them were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.&nbsp;
In 1965, during an interview, Oppenheimer revealed that a line from Gita &ndash; &lsquo;Now I am become death&rsquo; - had come to his mind when he saw the mushroom of smoke and gas after the Trinity Test explosion in New Mexico.&nbsp;
Oppenheimer had a keen interest in Hindu religious scriptures and had even learnt Sanskrit. He had read not just the Gita but also the Vedas.
Sylvan Schweber, a physicist who wrote a book on Oppenheimer said that he always kept a copy of Gita in his office and also gifted it to his friends.
'Inside the Centre', a biography of Oppenheimer, records that the scientist had once remarked he had not been able to find comfort from the consequences of his actions even in Krishna&rsquo;s words on detachment in Gita.&nbsp;

In an AFP interview, the British-born filmmaker said that much of the anxiety surrounding technology &lsquo;in our imagination stems from (Robert) Oppenheimer,&rsquo; the physicist who played a key role in developing nuclear weapons.
Nolan stated that the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) are raising similar concerns about the potential dangers of a technology that may become uncontrollable.

Universal Pictures has come out in support of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and canceled the upcoming US premiere of 'Oppenheimer', but the film will be screened to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark movie.
 On July 13, SAG-AFTRA called for a strike and voted to join screenwriters in the first joint strike after failing to reach any possible solution for a new contract with the studios and OTT services.
As per prominent sources of Variety, authorities from Universal Pictures in a statement said, &lsquo;In support of the ongoing SAG strike, the filmmakers of Oppenheimer will not be proceeding with the NY premiere as originally planned and will instead screen the movie to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark film.&rsquo;
 The premiere of Oppenheimer is scheduled to take place in New York City on July 17 at 7 pm ET (4.30 am IST).
 The statement came after the 'Oppenheimer' cast left the film&rsquo;s UK premiere on July 13 in support of the strike.

&lsquo;The union has regrettably chosen a path that will lead to financial hardship for countless thousands of people who depend on the industry,&rsquo; its statement added.
Addressing the concerns over the use of AI, AMPTP said it had agreed to a &lsquo;groundbreaking proposal&rsquo; that would protect the digital likeness of actors, and require their consent when digital replicas are used in performances, or alterations are made.
