&lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo; received massive backlash for its poor VFX after its teaser was unveiled in October 2022. Later, the makers pushed the film&rsquo;s release date from January 2023 to June 2023 as they want to give a &lsquo;complete visual&rsquo; experience to viewers.

‘Adipurush’, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, has created an uproar across the nation ever since its teaser release. Besides being massively trolled, the Om Raut-directorial has also landed in legal trouble. A plea has been filed in a Delhi court seeking a ban on the film, according to Hindustan Times.
The plea reportedly alleges that Hindu gods have been depicted in an ‘unwarranted and inaccurate way’ in the forthcoming film, hurting ‘religious, cultural, historical and civilizational sentiments.’ The plea further states that characters of Ramayana were depicted in a good manner in the painting of Raja Ravi Verma and the serial ‘Ramayan’. However, the defendant has shown Lord Rama as ‘atrocious, revengeful and angry’ donning leather straps and his appearance is against the description in the verse of Hanuman Chalisa.
The plea also said that character of Ravana, who was a staunch Brahman, has been portrayed ‘awfully cheap and appalling’, and the vanar sena has also been shown as a ‘whoop of chimpanzees.’ Apart from seeking a ban on the film, the plea has also sought removal of promotional video of ‘Adipurush’ from all social media platforms.
Director Om Raut has reacted to the negative reactions his film has received and in an interview with News 18 he has asked the audience to have faith in him. He said they are taking note of all the complaints and promised the audience that they won’t be disappointed by the film when it releases in theatres on January 12.
The matter will reportedly be heard in court on Monday, October 10.

Amid heavy trolling, the makers of ‘Adipurush’ screened the 3D teaser to the media in Hyderabad.    Actor Prabhas responded to the criticism and promised that he would soon come up with a new bang-on content. He said, ‘What does today's generation want? The generation that is consuming Marvel, the one that's consuming Spider-Man, Iron Man, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and what not. Because unless we talk to them in their language, they won't consume the content which is not what our objective is,’ he said. This film is a complete Islamisation of Ramayana and of Lord Ram, Maa Sita, Lord Hanuman. Even Saif Ali Khan who is playing the role of Ravana in the Adipurush movie looks like Taimur and Khilji. The film is going to spread hatred among a particular class by inciting religious sentiments in the country. You are making a film that hurts the sentiments of crores of Hindus.&rsquo;

As soon as the teaser was released, it was massively trolled for the quality of the CGI and VFX. Now, following the criticism, director Om Raut has defended his forthcoming film.
Reacting to negative reactions he received, the director said that although he was 'disheartened', he was not surprised. The filmmaker says even a small teaser of his upcoming epic ‘Adipurush’ is too massive to be contained on cell phones and insists that the audience will have a different reaction to the VFX and CGI of film when they see it on the big screen. During the 3D screening of  teaser, he said ‘I was disheartened for sure, not surprised because the film is made for a larger medium—the big screen. You can cut it down to some extent but can’t bring it down to a mobile phone. That’s an environment I can’t control. Given a choice, I’d never put it on YouTube but that’s the need of the hour. We need to put it there so that it reaches a wide audience,’ as reported by Indian Express.
Om Raut also added that this was a just glimpse into the world of 'Adipurush' and he wanted the audience to enjoy it. He said, ‘My partner and the studio (T-Series) is the largest YouTube channel in the world. This film does require audience that comes to cinema halls very rarely— primarily the senior citizen generation that doesn’t come to cinemas, or people from remote locations who don’t have access to theaters. We need those people to come and see the film because it’s Ramayana...We need to reach a wider audience and get them excited. So, as I said, I was not surprised because it’s not made for smaller screen. It’s made for a larger screen and I can’t consume it on a smaller screen.’

Now, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has voiced his anger. According to news agency ANI, he has warned the makers of the upcoming film of legal action if scenes showing Hindu religious figures in an objectionable way are not removed.
‘I have seen the trailer of Adipurush. There are objectionable scenes in it. Hanuman ji is shown wearing leather, whereas the description (in the scriptures) of the deity's costume is different… These are scenes that hurt religious sentiments. I am writing a letter to Om Raut to remove all such scenes from the film. If not removed, we will consider legal action,’ Ani quoted Mr. Mishra as saying.
He reportedly also cited a religious text in support of his contention.
In July this year, MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra had asked the State police to file a First Information Report over the controversial poster of Leena Manimekalai's documentary 'Kaali'.
Om Raut’s film stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan as Ravan and Kriti Sanon as Sita. It is based on Ramayana. BJP spokesperson Malavika Anand has also slammed the director for ‘misrepresentation’ of Ramayana.

If it was not him, I would have not made the film,’ the director told Variety.  Om Raut travelled from Mumbai to Hyderabad to discuss the film with the actor during Covid-19 lockdown. Recalling this meeting, Prabhas termed it as ‘super exciting day.’  The actor also opened up on why he signed this film. He said, ‘The way he designed the film was amazing, huge. And I think he made it very well.’ He added, ‘It was Om Raut’s intriguing screenplay and how it integrated the history and culture of India that compelled me to say a yes for the film.’ Prabhas also said that he was stressed because it is such an important film for the country.  Raut further praised Prabhas for his acting skills and described his working pattern. He said, ‘The way he has played it is divine. It’s extremely spiritual on many levels, yet at the same time, it’s a commercial flick. So, it has that crazy balance of playing to the gallery, obviously, like everybody does, but at the same time, we had to maintain the sanctity and purity of the character and stay within that boundary and try to achieve what we want to achieve.’  Raut’s ‘Adipurush’, produced by T-Series and Retrophiles, is filmed in Hindi and Telugu languages but will also be available in dubbed Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada-language versions. It is set to hit theatres on January 12, 2023.
