<p>He went on to reflect on what the sport has meant to him:<br>"This game we love has given and will continue to give so much - joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies. Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field... it's hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart."</p>
<p>In his message, Pooran also expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey.</p>
<p>"To the fans - thank you for your unwavering love. You lifted me in the tough moments and celebrated the good ones with unmatched passion," he said.</p>
<p>"To my family, friends, and teammates - thank you for walking this journey with me. Your belief and support carried me through it all."</p>
<p>Pooran began his international career in 2016 and last turned out for the West Indies in an ODI in July 2023. He was part of the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and played his final T20I for the national side in December that year. Between 2021 and 2022, he also took on leadership duties, captaining the West Indies in 23 T20I matches.</p>
<p>Despite stepping away from international duties, Pooran expressed his enduring support for West Indies cricket, stating that he will continue to be a loyal fan and well-wisher of the team in all formats.</p>
<p>Though he has ended his international career, Pooran reiterated his enduring connection with West Indies cricket.</p>

<p>Pooran took over the captaincy from Kieron Pollard in May this year. He was not able to inspire the team as under his captaincy the Caribbean nation managed to win only eight matches in ODIs and T20Is out of 30 games played across the formats.</p>
<p><br>Under Pooran's leadership, the two-time T20 World Cup champions even failed to qualify for the Super 12 round in Australia as they faced defeat from Scotland and Ireland in qualifiers.</p>
<p>Pooran's form with the bat has been a cause of concern for the Windies as well given the Southpaw has managed to score only 94 runs in his last 10 innings in T20Is.</p>

'Sanitiser contains alcohol and probably it did not dry up properly when he plugged it and got a mild jolt,' added the manager.
