Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava on Wednesday said if local people's strong reactions over the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya has affected the north-eastern state's image or its tourism, then he expresses regret over it.
The mayor also said Raghuvanshi's murder is unfortunate and asserted that tourists are safe in the north-east.
According to the Meghalaya Police, Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam (25) was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to murder him with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha (20). The duo had hired three killers to execute the plan.
Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and his wife Sonam got married here on May 11. They went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23.
Raghuvanshi's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
Sonam and her aides were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh recently for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raghuvanshi.
After the disappearance of the newly married couple, many people in Indore reacted sharply, questioning the investigation of the Meghalaya Police and the safety of tourists in the north-eastern state.
Referring to the reactions, Mayor Bhargava told PTI, "If for any reason the image or tourism of Meghalaya or any other area of the north-east has been affected, then I express regret over it." He said the Meghalaya Police acted promptly and solved the murder case within a few days for which he is grateful to them.
"I myself have lived in the north-east for some time and believe tourism is safe there. We all should take care that tourism in Meghalaya is not affected in any way," he said.
Raja Raghuvanshi's murder is unfortunate and it should not be linked to any particular place, the mayor said.
"This incident is a matter of introspection for us. We will communicate with the local people through various programmes so that they stay away from blindly following the western culture and such incidents do not occur in future."

During the meeting, the Federation of Sadar Bazar Trades Association addressed the mayor regarding problems in Sadar Bazar, expressing anger among traders over the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's 'high user charge' imposition, the statement said.
"Many shops in Sadar Bazar are very small, with a house tax of Rs 500 or Rs 700. Along with that, the Rs 5000 user charge will put a burden on small traders, due to which they are struggling," it said.
Demanding precautions for the upcoming monsoon season, they said, "Water enters the shops during the rainy season, which is why we request the MCD to clean all the sewer lines beforehand." The union also called for the removal of the parking space between Sadar Bazar Police Station and 12 Tooti Chowk, allotted by the MCD, which has led to traffic jams and criminal activities, it stated.
They also demanded action against the various e-rickshaws that are operating without licenses and numbers, further contributing to the traffic woes.
After the meeting, the association claimed that the mayor assured them of appropriate solutions and would work towards developing the area.

In the 4 December 2022 election, the Aam Aadmi Party won 134 wards, relegating the ruling BJP to second place with 104. AAP has fielded Shelly Oberoi against BJP's Rekha Gupta for the post of mayor. The candidates for the post of deputy mayor are - Aaley Mohammad Iqbal of AAP and Kamal Bagri of BJP.
The post of mayor in Delhi sees five single-year terms on a rotation basis, with the first year being reserved for women, the second for open category, third for reserved category, and the remaining two also being in the open category.

Meanwhile, the BJP has claimed the AAP counsellors had come prepared to disrupt the oath of the aldermen and they assaulted BJP councillors including women.
The maiden meeting of the newly elected MCD was adjourned without electing the mayor and the deputy mayor amid loud protests by AAP councillors over administering of oath to the 10 aldermen &ndash; the unelected members of the house.
The next date for the convening of the house will be announced later, BJP councillor Satya Sharma, the presiding officer overseeing the process, had earlier said.

"The elections to the coveted posts of mayor, deputy mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and six members of the standing committee from the House, will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00AM during the first meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi," the MCD said in a statement.

250 councillors were elected after the high-stakes civic polls which were held on December 4.
According to the DMC Act 1957, "The Corporation shall at its first meeting in each year elect one of its members to be the Chairperson to be known as the Mayor and another member to be the Deputy Mayor of the Corporation." The MCD said that the last date for filing nominations is December 27.
"The nominations can be filed in the office of Municipal Secretary on any working day between 11 AM and 5 PM. Election for the six members of standing committee will also be held in the first meeting of the House. The post of a mayor of the MCD is reserved for female member in the first year," it said.
The post of mayor sees five single-year terms on a rotation basis, with the first year being reserved for women, the second for open category, third for reserved category, and the remaining two also being in the open category.
The election to the top post will take place nearly a month after the civic polls, results for which were announced on December 7.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the MCD polls by bagging 134 seats, ending the 15-year rule of the BJP in the MCD, and reducing the Congress to just nine seats in a House of 250 members.
The post of mayor is considered prestigious and a Delhi mayor wielded a lot of power until the erstwhile unified MCD, set up in 1958, was trifurcated into North Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi municipal corporations in 2012 with a mayor each for three civic bodies. The civic bodies were reunified in May 2022.
Former mayor of North Delhi Jai Prakash, who served in the post from 2020-2021, earlier said, according to the old DMC Act, which governs the MCD, besides elected councillors, some nominated members also are eligible to vote in a mayoral poll.
"Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs representing constituencies which comprise wholly or partly the area of the corporation, and one-fifth of the members of the Delhi Assembly representing constituencies, to be nominated by the Speaker, and chairpersons of various municipal committees can vote in a mayoral poll," he said.
Ten aldermen are nominated to the MCD by the Lt Governor, but they don't vote in a mayoral election, he added.
There are no anti-defection law in the context of the civic body here, experts say.&nbsp;

The building was being converted into a paying guest (PG) accomodation. Fire Services said that they received a call around 1:24 pm, and the main challenge was getting vehicles to the spot as the building is in a congested area.
At least 4 people had been rescued by 4:30 pm. A senior fire official was quoted by PTI as saying that the building was not in a good enough condition to undergo renovation.
South Delhi Mayor visited the spot, and said that the building had been marked as being in the danger zone in March. Mukesh Suryan said, "What I've come to know is that the owners wanted to repair their house. If there was a budget issue, they thought or repair... Nigam did its work. The building was in the danger zone, and we had intimated as per procedure. The notice had pasted on March 31. On April 14, police, SDM etc had been intimated. Officials have letters of the copies."

Delhi's Satya Niketan witnessed a tragedy as a three-storey building collapsed on April 25, trapping multiple people.&nbsp;The building was being renovated when it caved-in, and those trapped were believed to be labourers.
The building was being converted into a paying guest (PG) accomodation.&nbsp;Fire Services said that they received a call around 1:24 pm, and the main challenge was getting vehicles to the spot as the building is in a congested area.
At least 4 people had been rescued by 4:30 pm.&nbsp;A senior fire official was quoted by PTI as saying that the building was not in a good enough condition to undergo renovation.&nbsp;National Disaster Response Force personnel were deployed at the spot to aid in rescue and relief.

South Delhi Mayor visited the spot, and said that the building had been marked as being in the danger zone in March. The Mayor of a small city in Utah, Major Brent Taylor, who had temporarily stepped down to serve in Afghanistan, was killed in Kabul in what the US-backed coalition called an inside job.
