A San Diego doctor has become the third individual to plead guilty in connection with Matthew Perry's fatal overdose, as prosecutors work to build a case against two key suspects they believe are responsible for the &lsquo;Friends&rsquo; star's death.
Dr. Mark Chavez, 54, entered his plea on October 2 in a Los Angeles federal court, admitting to a felony charge of conspiring to distribute the anesthetic ketamine. This followed a plea agreement reached with prosecutors in July. Chavez has agreed to cooperate with the U.S. Attorney&rsquo;s Office, which is now pursuing more serious charges against Dr. Salvador Plasencia, accused of directly supplying ketamine to Perry.
The other main target of the investigation is Jasmine Sangha, an alleged drug dealer known as the &lsquo;ketamine queen&rsquo; of Los Angeles. Prosecutors claim she provided the lethal doses that led to Perry&rsquo;s death in October 2023.
During his court appearance, Chavez answered questions from Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett, waived his right to a trial, and admitted to distributing 22 vials of ketamine and nine lozenges. He is currently free on bond until his sentencing on April 2, where he could face up to 10 years in prison, though his cooperation may lead to a reduced sentence. Chavez has also agreed to surrender his medical license and passport.
Prosecutors revealed text messages between Chavez and Plasencia discussing their ketamine distribution. In one exchange, Plasencia asked Chavez if he approved of their actions, to which Chavez responded, "Depends on your tolerance for risk." Plasencia also suggested they become Perry&rsquo;s &lsquo;go-to&rsquo; suppliers for the drug, which they sold to the actor for $4,500.
U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the doctors' actions, saying they exploited Perry&rsquo;s history of addiction during the final months of his life. Perry, who struggled with addiction for years, was found dead on October 28, 2023. Ketamine, used for off-label depression treatment, was ruled as the primary cause of death.

Investigators revealed that Mr. Perry obtained the fatal batch of ketamine through a broker, Erik Fleming, who sourced the drug from Jasveen Sangha.
According to court documents, Ms. Sangha supplied Mr. Fleming with 50 vials of ketamine in two separate transactions in the weeks leading up to Mr. Perry's death. The indictment alleges that Mr. Perry first tried the drug on October 13, and Mr. Fleming delivered two large batches to Perry's home on October 14 and October 24. Sangha had also been arrested on March 19, 2024, for selling meth in an unrelated case. During a raid on her home, federal agents seized 79 bottles of liquid ketamine and nearly 2,000 meth pills, revealing the extent of her illegal activities. She was freed on bond.

Federal authorities announced on August 15 that two doctors, a live-in personal assistant, an acquaintance, and a drug dealer known as the &lsquo;ketamine queen&rsquo; were involved in a conspiracy to supply Perry with the ketamine that led to his accidental overdose.
All five individuals have been charged in connection with Perry's death. Authorities stated that as Perry's ketamine addiction worsened last fall, the group exploited his vulnerable state for financial gain.
&ldquo;We charged five defendants in this matter. These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry's addiction issues to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was risking. Great danger to Mr. Perry. But they did it anyways," said Martin Estrada, United States Attorney for the Central District of California.
"The two lead defendants in this case are defendants Salvador Plasencia and defendant Jasveen Sangha. First, I'll talk about the defendant. Placentia. Defendant Placentia was a medical doctor. He worked with another medical doctor, defendant Mark Chavez, to obtain ketamine. He then worked with Mr. Perry's live-in assistant, defendant Kenneth Iwamasa, to distribute that ketamine to Mr. Perry. Over two months, from September to October 2023, they distributed approximately 20 vials of ketamine to Mr. Perry in exchange for $55,000 in cash," he continued.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Defendant Placentia saw this as an opportunity to profit off of Mr. Perry, he wrote in a text message in September 2023, quote, 'I wonder how much this moron will pay.' He also stated in text messages that he wanted to be Mr. Perry's sole source of supply. He wrote in a text message that he wanted to be Mr. Perry's quote, 'go to for drugs,'&rdquo; he stated.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Matthew Perry died from the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, according to the results of an autopsy on the 54-year-old &ldquo;Friends&rdquo; actor released Friday.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said in the autopsy report that Perry also drowned in &ldquo;the heated end of his pool,&rdquo; but that it was a secondary factor in his October 28 death, deemed an accident.
The report says coronary artery disease and buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid use disorder, also contributed.
Perry was declared dead after being found unresponsive at his home in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. Investigators performed the autopsy the following day.
The actor had taken drugs in the past but had been &ldquo;reportedly clean for 19 months," according to the report. The coroner said he was reported to have been having ketamine infusion therapy to deal with depression and anxiety, and his last treatment was 1 1/2 weeks before his death.
Perry had played pickleball earlier in the day, the report says, and his assistant, who lives with him, found him face down in the pool after returning from errands.
The assistant told investigators Perry had not been sick, had not made any health complaints, and had not shown evidence of recent alcohol or drug use.
Perry was open about discussing his struggles with addiction dating back to his time on &ldquo;Friends&rdquo; in the 1990s.
"I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addictions which only added to my sense of shame,&rdquo; he wrote in his 2022 memoir. &ldquo;I had a secret and no one could know.&rdquo;

Hours after the news of his death surfaced, singer Adele paid tribute to the legend with a heart-warming remark during her recent Las Vegas concert. In a video posted over X, the singer quips, &lsquo;I'll remember the character for the rest of my life,&rsquo; referring to Perry's most loved role as Chandler Bing in the hit 1990s television series &lsquo;Friends&rsquo;.
She also talked to the crowd about his struggle with alcohol addiction. She said his openness about his addiction and sobriety was nothing less than bravery. Furthermore, she also exclaimed that although she never met him in person, she would always remember him as one of the best comedians.&nbsp;
She added, &lsquo;Some of my favourite memories of when I was younger with my friends is one of them doing the best Chandler impression.&rsquo;
Praising Matthew Perry, she recalled how his character became a staple in her childhood, with one of her friends doing the best Chandler impression.
&lsquo;And he would do it all the time to make us laugh. And if any of us were having a bad day or feeling low, he would just pretend to be Chandler,&rsquo; Adele said.
&lsquo;And yeah, I just wanna say how much I love what he did for all of us. Especially what he did for me. One of the best comedic characters of all time. And hopefully, now, he can rest in peace,&rsquo; the singer concluded.
