Newly elected Samajwadi Party MP from Faizabad Awadhesh Prasad on Thursday attacked the BJP, saying this party is not the "real" follower of Lord Ram, and accused it of doing politics in his name and cheating the people. Prasad defeated his nearest rival from the BJP, Lallu Singh, by 54,567 votes in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad parliamentary seat, where a grand Ram temple was built in Ayodhya on the orders of the Supreme Court and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had led its consecration ceremony on January 22.
"The BJP did politics in the name of Ayodhya. They have worked against the dignity of Maryada Purushottam Ram," Prasad told PTI-Videos.

They (BJP) were doing politics in the name of Ram and have cheated the country. They have ruined the country," he said. Describing himself as a "real" Ram bhakt (follower of Lord Ram), Prasad said, "I am very fortunate that I was born in Ayodhya. I have studied there. My grandfather, father, brother and maternal uncle are named after Ram. We (the Samajwadi Party) contested elections from a seat on which the whole world was watching...people of the BJP are not the real followers of Ram. We are the real ones." On BJP's promise that it would bring Ram Rajya in the country, the MP said in Ram Rajya, people did not suffer. But during the BJP's tenure people faced every kind of problem whether it was inflation or unemployment, Prasad said. Hitting out at the BJP on the four-year army recruitment scheme Agnipath, Prasad said, "By doing this, our country's army was insulted." "When our INDIA bloc government is formed, then the Agniveer Yojana will be abolished," he added.

Addressing the opposition leaders who converged at his residence, Kharge said all INDIA alliance partners fought well, unitedly and resolutely.
"The mandate is decisively against Mr Modi, against him and the substance and style of his politics. It is a huge political loss for him personally apart from being a clear moral defeat as well. However, he is determined to subvert the will of the people," he said.
"The INDIA alliance welcomes all parties which share its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble to our Constitution and to its many provisions for economic, social and political justice," the Congress chief said in his opening remarks.

Senior leaders of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance deliberated on the details of government formation at a meeting here Wednesday, a day after the ruling coalition won a majority in the Lok Sabha election which paved the way for a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan were among those who were present at the meeting chaired by Modi. Senior BJP leaders were also in attendance.
The TDP, JD(U), Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the LJP (Ram Vilas) have won 16, 12, seven and five seats respectively and will play a crucial role in the government formation.
Sources said National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders are expected to formally repose their faith in Modi's leadership and that MPs of the coalition's constituents may meet in a couple of days to elect him as their leader.
"I have not come here to demand anything. I have come here to support Modiji in forming the government. Modiji has got a majority. The NDA will form the government under Modiji's leadership," Shinde told reporters at the airport here.
Though there was no official word on the date for the oath-taking ceremony, there is a view among some members of the alliance that it may take place over the weekend if the contours of the new government are quickly worked out.
Parties like the TDP and the JD(U) are expected to demand some key portfolios as their support will be crucial for government formation and survival.
Modi is set for a record-equalling third term at the helm, though the new government is likely to be different in composition and character with a bigger share for the BJP's allies.
While the NDA is comfortably above the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP, which won 240 seats, has fallen short of the magic number for the first time since 2014 and is critically dependent on its allies.

However, weeks before the elections, the Bihar Chief Minister switched sides, abandoning the INDIA bloc. JDU fought on 16 seats, out of which it is set to win around 12. If Kumar makes a U-turn again, it would be a major setback to the BJP.
A bigger blow, whoever, could be a flip by Chandrababu Naidu, whose party appears to be winning around 16 seats.
In 2014, TDP had entered into an alliance with the BJP. That lasted till 2018, when TDP departed from the NDA over the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
The party even briefly allied with the Congress for the 2018 Telangana polls.
Naidu joined NDA again ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The move certainly helped his party which now holds key to the 18th Lok Sabha.

Two, the booth level coordination of INDIA bloc at the cadre level particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh provided dividends. Third Akhilesh, in fact, coined a new slogan for the vote base he banked on this time, expanding from &ldquo;M-Y&rdquo; or Muslim-Yadav to &ldquo;PDA&rdquo; or &ldquo;Pichde (backward classes or OBCs), Dalits, Alpasankhyak (minorities)&rdquo;.
So, while five SP tickets went to Yadavs, the Samajwadi Party fielded 27 candidates belonging to other OBCs, 11 upper castes (including four Brahmins, two Thakurs, two Vaishyas and one Khatri) and four Muslims. It nominated 15 Dalit candidates in SC-reserved seats.
