Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's "Kushi" starts strong with a Rs 16 crore opening in India, facing competition from Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan" next week.

The latest romantic drama, "Kushi," starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, made its theatrical debut on Friday, garnering a positive response with an impressive opening of Rs 16 crore nett in India.
Notably, the film showed its dominance in Telugu-speaking regions, securing an occupancy rate of 59.13 percent on its opening day, with a peak during the evening shows, accounting for 74.13 percent of the total audience footfalls.
Benefitting from the absence of major Telugu releases in theaters, "Kushi" appears poised for a successful box office run.
Hyderabad emerged as the top city for foot traffic, contributing 64.75 percent of the film's audience, followed by Bengaluru and Chennai for the Telugu version.
The Tamil version of the film maintained a commendable overall occupancy rate of 40.12 percent.
Interestingly, Vijay Deverakonda's previous release in 2022, "Liger," which had a pan-Indian release, also achieved an opening day collection of Rs 16 crore.
Samantha's last outing, "Shaakuntalam," a Telugu release, earned Rs 2.7 crore on its opening day but was considered a commercial disappointment.
While "Kushi" enjoys a favorable window with limited competition, Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan," releasing in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on September 7, poses a potential challenge.
"Kushi" will have about a week to capitalize on the undivided audience attention before facing competition from the much-anticipated release.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda attended an event in Visakhapatnam on September 4 to celebrate the success of his recent film &lsquo;Kushi&rsquo;. He surprised his fans as he said that he would not just be sharing his happiness with them, but also his earnings from the film.
He announced that he would distribute ₹1 lakh each to 100 families.

Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan shared a video clip of the actor's announcement on X.
Earlier this year, he had sent 100 fans on an all-expenses-paid trip to Manali.
&lsquo;Kushi&rsquo;, which also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, had opened at ₹16 crore and its domestic total now stands at ₹39.25 crore. Directed by Shiva Nirvana, the film also features Sachin Khedekar, Saranya Ponvannan, Murali Sharma, Lakshmi Jayaram and Rohini.
Kushi narrates the love story of a couple who meet during their individual Kashmir trip. They tie the knot amid opposition from their respective families who claim that their horoscopes don't match. Soon, their marriage hits a roadblock as differences arise between the two.

The trailer of Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer 'Kushi' has been released.
It starts off an inter-faith love story set in Kashmir but then the setting shifts to Bombay and a new truth is unveiled.
After convincing their parents to agree to their match, Vikram and Aaradhya face hardships in the married life and they are constantly at war with each other.
'Kushi' also stars Jayaram, Sachin Khedakar, Murali Sharma, Lakshmi and Vennela Kishore among others.
The film marks Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda's reunion after 2018 film 'Mahanati'.
Directed by Shiva Nirvana, the film is all set to release on September 1.
Samantha skipped the trailer launch event of the film on August 9 as she's currently on a break from work.
She is expected to take out time to promote her forthcoming film.

Marking the occasion, Mythri Movie Makers who are bankrolling his upcoming film, have dropped the first audio single from the album. The song is titled 'Na Roja Nuvve/Tu Meri Roja'.
In tune with the theme of the title, the song is also a depiction of the love track between the lead pair, played by Vijay and Samantha.
Vijay describes the love he has towards his love interest through the novel lyrics that are penned by Siva Nirvana. The lyrical video opens with the plush green locales of Kashmir and we see Vijay in a proper lover boy look.
Hesham&rsquo;s composition and his own vocals are in sync with the song. He has composed a soothing and fresh song. It will take time to grow on the listeners but will certainly strike a chord with those who love quality music.
A few frames replicate the vibe of a Maniratnam film, which is a given considering that Siva Nirvana is a huge admirer of the former. 'Kushi' is a love drama featuring Vijay and Samantha.
