35-year-old Pollard wanted to carry on playing for a few more years but decided to retire from IPL after a discussion with the Mumbai-based franchise.&nbsp;
However, Pollard will be playing for an MI-owned franchise in the inaugural International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.
Pollard, who has 3412 IPL runs in 189 matches, made his MI debut back in 2010. Despite his retirement, he has a strong association with Mumbai Indians and now he will continue as the team's batting coach in IPL.

Kieron Pollard may have retired as a player in the IPL but he's all set to continue as the batting coach of the Mumbai Indians.

One of Mumbai Indians and IPL's most iconic players and 5-time Champion, Kieron Pollard, announced his IPL retirement on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old, who made his IPL debut in 2010 for the Mumbai Indians was one of their biggest match-winner over the years, having played crucial roles during all their 5 title triumphs.
The hard-hitting all-rounder from Trinidad was an integral part of the MI squad, helping Mumbai become the most successful IPL team ever.
Pollard in a post on Twitter announced his retirement and also revealed that after learning of his impending release from the Mumbai Indians camp, he decided to call time on his IPL career since he just can't see himself playing against the Mumbai Indians. He wrote, 'Once an MI, always an MI'.
He further revealed that he will take up Mumbai Indians' batting coach's job as well as play for the MI Emirates team in the International League T20 in the UAE.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that Mumbai Indians will release many players including Kieron Pollard after their feeble show in the ongoing IPL.
In a video on his YouTube channel, cricketer-turned-analyst Aakash Chopra said that he thinks that we have seen the last of Kieron Pollard as he will be released if MI don't retain him.

"It was a dream of mine to play for West Indies since I was a 10-year-old boy and I am proud to represent the West Indies for over 15 years in T20 and ODI format of the game," Pollard said.
Pollard is regarded as one of the biggest hitters in the shortest format of the game. He became the third player after Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh in international cricket to hit six sixes in an over.
Despite having the stature of one of the biggest T20 stars, Pollard failed to leave an impression in international cricket as he scored 2706 ODI runs and 1567 runs in T20Is.
