Uniform Civil Code refers to a common law for all citizens regarding marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other such issues. Currently, various religious communities have their personal laws for their own members. Organisations like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board have opposed calls for the UCC.
Meanwhile, reacting to Amit Shah's statement, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the Yogi Adityanath administration is also thinking in the same direction.

In an apparent peace move amid reports of a rift within the UP govt, CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday joined RSS leaders for lunch at the home of Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.
This is for the first time since becoming CM that Adityanath visited his deputy's house, which is barely 200 metre away from the CM's home.
RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale and two other Sangh leaders spent an hour and a half at Maurya's house, where the chief minister and another Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma were also present.

51-year-old Maurya, who holds the portfolio of PWD ministry, said in a tweet, &ldquo;After the initial symptoms of corona infection, I got myself tested. My report has come positive today.&rdquo; &ldquo;I request you all who came in my contact in the last few days to go to the nearest health centre and get yourself tested and follow the Covid rules,&rdquo; he said.
