"Article 370, Ram Mandir, Citizenship Act, and triple talaq are done. Now, Uniform Civil Code issue will be resolved in the coming years." This is what Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly said at a Bharatiya Janata Party meeting in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal on April 23.

Shah told BJP ministers, office-bearers, and other leaders that UCC is being implemented in Uttarakhand by the BJP government. Following its implementation in the hill state, the situation will be analysed, and then UCC will be implemented in other parts of the country.

Along with from the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status under Article 370, and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the Uniform Civil Code issue has been one of the core promises of the BJP over the years. While two of these have already been accomplished, the UCC issue remains.

Uniform Civil Code refers to a common law for all citizens regarding marriage, divorce, inheritance, and other such issues. Currently, various religious communities have their personal laws for their own members. Organisations like the All India Muslim Personal Law Board have opposed calls for the UCC.

Meanwhile, reacting to Amit Shah's statement, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the Yogi Adityanath administration is also thinking in the same direction.
