An FIR was registered against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for allegedly using derogatory remarks against the Sikh community in a social media post.
The FIR was lodged at the suburban Khar police station in Mumbai a day after the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) submitted a complaint against the actress.
As per reports, Kangana has been booked under section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation has been underway.
According to the official, the complainant in the case is Amarjeet Singh Sandhu, a Mumbai-based businessman who was part of a DSGMC delegation that submitted the complaint on Monday.
In a statement, Sandhu accused the actress of making derogatory remarks against his community in an Instagram post.
After submitting the complaint, the DSGMC delegation, led by Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader who is also president of the organisation, had met Maharashtra home minister Dilip Walse Patil and top officials of the Mumbai police and demanded action against Kangana.
In the complaint, the DSGMC mentioned that Kangana had intentionally and deliberately portrayed the farmers’ protest (Kisan Morcha) as a ‘Khalistani’ movement and also dubbed the Sikh community as ‘Khalistani terrorists’. The Queen actress also made references to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
In the post, Kangana has used derogatory language against the Sikh community, according to the complaint.
‘This act on her part is most degrading, disrespectful, and contemptuous, which has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community settled all over the world,’ it added.
Recently, Kangana stoked a controversy when she claimed that India attained freedom in 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power and described the country's independence in 1947 as 'handed over' by the British. She also invited criticism for her remark against Mahatma Gandhi where she mocked his mantra of ahimsa, saying that offering another cheek gets you 'bheek' not freedom.

IYC national secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and Ambuj Dixit, co-coordinator of the outfit's legal cell, filed a complaint against the actress at the Parliament Street Police Station here.
Meanwhile, the DSGMC took strong exception to the wording used by the actress in her Instagram story and also filed a police complaint, calling it "disrespectful, contemptuous and insulting".
The complaint letter was marked to an additional commissioner of police in Mumbai and the cyber cell of the Delhi Police located at the Mandir Marg police station here.
The DSGMC, in its complaint, alleged that through her post, Ranaut has "intentionally" and "deliberately" portrayed the farmers' protest as "Khalistani movements".
"...and further dubbed the Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists and recalling the massacre and genocide happened during 1984 and earlier as planned and calculated move on part of (former prime minister) Smt. Indira Gandhi," it alleged.
The DSGMC sought "strict legal action" against the actress from the authorities after the registration of an FIR against her.
"It is submitted that the post is deliberately prepared and shared with criminal intention to hurt the feelings of the Sikh community," it alleged.
DSGMC president and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa slammed the actress over her alleged derogatory remarks targeting Sikhs and said the government should take action against her.
"She should either be put in mental hospital or in jail. We demand strict action from govt for her hateful content on Instagram," Sirsa said in a tweet.
The youth wing of the Congress, in its complaint, alleged that following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on Friday that the Centre will repeal three contentious farm laws, Ranaut posted Instagram stories, saying India is a "jihadist nation" and called for dictatorship in the country.
"Kangana Ranaut is a renowned actress and has a huge fan following of more than 7.8 million (78 lakh) people on Instagram. Therefore, her intentional, irresponsible and seditious posts have the ability to excite hatred, contempt and disaffection towards the Republic of India," the complaint said.
The complaint has been filed seeking the registration of an FIR against the actress under sections 124A (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Pandey said.

This was also a vague reference to a movie she would be working on called "Emergency&rdquo;.
Ranaut, who has been outspoken about her support for the ruling BJP government, posted these just a day after the three controversial farm laws were cancelled after 14 months of gruelling protests by farmers.

Recently, speaking at a summit, Kangana Ranaut had said that what India got in 1947 was &lsquo;bheekh (handout)&rsquo; and the country got its true freedom in 2014, referring to when the BJP&nbsp;came to power under PM Modi.
Taking to Twitter, Javed Akhtar wrote, "It is totally understand(able). Why would all those who had nothing to do with freedom movement feel bad if some(one) calls our freedom just a 'bheek'."

Actor Swara Bhasker, sharing a video clip on Twitter had said, "Who are the idiots who are clapping is what I want to know." Filmmaker Onir also asked, "Will we now start celebrating a new Independence Day?"
Kangana's new production venture Tiku Weds Sheru recently started filming. Directed by Sai Kabir, it features actor&nbsp;Nawazuddin Siddiqui&nbsp;and Avneet Kaur. The film is her maiden digital venture and will be produced under Manikarnika Films.
Kangana Ranaut has several projects in the pipeline including Dhaakad, Tejas, Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda, Emergency, Aparajita Ayodhya and The Incarnation: Sita.

He also posted a short clip of Ranaut's remarks during a news channel programme in which she is heard saying in Hindi, "That was not freedom but 'bheekh' or alms, and the freedom came in 2014."

Actor Kangana Ranaut and singer Adnan Sami were honoured with the Padma Shri at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan On Monday.
Kangana looked regal in a green-golden saree, wearing large earrings. Kangana's sister Rangoli, who was present at the venue, was seen applauding and cheering the actor. Kangana, who has received four National Awards, said that the Padma Shri is the most special honour for her.
Speaking about the honour, Kangana had earlier said, &ldquo;I started my journey from a small village in Himachal Pradesh, and for me to be in the same league as these bigwigs we have grown up watching, whether it is Karan&rsquo;s films or Ekta Kapoor&rsquo;s serials&hellip; We knew these people, growing up. And who has not heard Adnan Sami ji&rsquo;s songs? For a girl like me, to get a Padma Shri alongside them is a matter of pride.&rdquo;
Other recipients of the Padma Shri this year include Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and late singer SP Balasubramaniam. 
Producer Ekta Kapoor wrote on Twitter, "humbled and overwhelmed. My foray into the industry started when I was just 17. I constantly heard I was &lsquo;too young&rsquo;, &lsquo;too raw&rsquo; and it was &lsquo;too soon&rsquo; to make things happen. Through the years I&rsquo;ve realised it&rsquo;s never &lsquo;too soon&rsquo; to live out your dreams and being &lsquo;too young&rsquo; is probably the best thing. Today, as I&rsquo;m conferred with the 4th highest civilian honor- &lsquo;Padmashri&rsquo;, I&rsquo;m humbled.&rdquo;
Hindustani classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was conferred the Padma Vibhushan award.
