A 35-year-old convict serving a life sentence for the murder of a transgender person was found dead in a bathroom of the Jaipur Central Jail, police said on Friday.
Naresh Mulani alias Nishu, the deceased, had been in the jail since 2022 and was found dead Thursday night, they said.
Police claim Mulani died by suicide, though investigation is on in the matter.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that the convict committed suicide while in the bathroom. Other inmates discovered his body and informed the jail authorities," Lal Kothi Police Station SHO Banna Lal said.
Mulani was a native of Bagru Walon Ka Rasta in Jaipur and had been serving time for killing a transgender person in the Nahargarh area.

A magistrate's court here has sentenced to four months' imprisonment a man whose pet dog had bitten a neighbour inside a lift of his residential building in the Worli area.
The decision came seven years after the incident.
Accused Rishabh Patel (40) did not show much compassion to his pet Husky dog too, the court said in its ruling on May 21. The detailed order became available on Wednesday.
Judicial Magistrate First Class Suhas Bhosale found the accused guilty under Indian Penal Code sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal). The court also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on Patel, saying the victim's sufferings "cannot be compensated in terms of money" but it would give him some relief.
The incident had taken place on February 1, 2018.
As per the prosecution, complainant Ramik Shah was going down in a lift with his one-and-a-half-year-old son and servant when Patel sought to enter with his dog.
Shah requested Patel to wait as his son was afraid of dogs, but Patel did not pay heed, and the dog bit Shah's left forearm once inside the lift, it said.
Later, Shah filed a complaint at the Worli police station.
The prosecution examined four witnesses, including Shah, during the trial.
"The way the accused dragged his pet inside the lift as it is visible from CCTV footage shows he is not compassionate towards his own pet," the court noted in its ruling.
The "accused did not care about the informant, his son and dragged his own pet inside the lift which is normally meant for human use", it further said, holding that Patel was not "entitled to too much leniency", and sentenced him to four months' rigorous imprisonment.

In earlier instances, when he was out of jail, he stayed at the Dera&rsquo;s ashram in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Baghpat. The Sirsa-headquartered Dera Sacha Sauda has a number of followers in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and other states.
In Haryana, the Dera has a sizable number of followers in many districts including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Hisar.

Navalny earned admiration from Russia's disparate opposition for voluntarily returning to Russia in 2021 from Germany, where he had been treated for what Western laboratory tests showed was an attempt to poison him with a nerve agent. &nbsp; Navalny said at the time that he was poisoned in Siberia in August 2020. The Kremlin denied trying to kill him and said there was no evidence he was poisoned with a nerve agent.

Five jail officials -- Deputy Superintendents Pradeep Sharma and Dharmender Maurya, Assistant Superintendent Sunny Chandra, Head Warder Lokesh Dhama and Warder Hansraj Meena -- were suspended following the recovery of mobile phones from Mandoli jail, according to prison officials.
Director-General (Prisons) Sanjay Baniwal has directed all jail superintendents to form search teams and detect mobile phones and other prohibited articles in their prisons, they said.

Baniwal had constituted a special vigilance team at Prison Headquarters for a major crackdown on the smuggling of communication gadgets into jails.
The team, along with 104 Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel, conducted a raid on December 18, leading to the recovery of eight mobile phones.&nbsp;

Six Indian prisoners, who completed their jail terms, died in Pakistan in the last nine months and India has raised the "alarming" issue with Islamabad, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said five of the six Indians were fishermen and asserted that Pakistan is "duty-bound" to ensure safety and security of all Indian prisoners.
"Six Indians, five of them fishermen, died in Pakistani custody in the last nine months or so," he said.
"All the six, interestingly, had completed their sentences, but what we would say, were illegally detained by Pakistan despite completing their sentences and in spite of multiple demands by the Indian side for their release and repatriation," Bagchi added.
The spokesperson said there has been an increasing number of deaths of Indian fishermen in Pakistan in recent times.   "The increasing incidents of deaths of Indian fishermen is alarming and raises the question of their safety and security in Pakistani jails. The matter has been raised by our high commission in Islamabad as well as with the Pakistani high commission here," he said.
"We request the Pakistan government once again to release and repatriate all Indian prisoners immediately," he said.

&ldquo;They will build it and give it to you and claim reduction under the Income Tax. A new concept will emerge. Then a new concept will evolve, from anticipatory bail to anticipatory jail,&rdquo; said a bench of Justices K M Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy.
The observation came after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for activist Gautam Navlakha, said there is over overcrowding in jails and only Ayurveda doctors are available for patients.

Judges accused al-Qahtani of &ldquo;disrupting the cohesion of society&rdquo; and &ldquo;destabilising the social fabric,&rdquo; according to the charge sheet, citing her activity on social media.
An official charge sheet accessed by The Associated Press and human rights groups describes her case as involving her social media use, though Saudi officials did not respond to requests for comment.
Not long ago, a similar 34-year prison sentence was handed down to Salma al-Shehab, a Saudi doctoral student at Leeds University in England.

Rinda is one of the main suspects in the attack on Punjab Police's Intelligence headquarters in Mohali. The building had been hit by a grenade on May 9. Rinda is also believed to have had a hand in the terror attack in Nawanshahr on November 8, 2021. Crime Investigation Agency's building had been targeted in the attack. Alleged associates of Rinda had been held in May 2022 in a weapon smuggling case.

Punjab has been in headlines for the past few weeks due to multiple law and order issues. On March 14, international kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian killed in Jalandhar. On April 29, clashes occurred between Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), and alleged pro-Khalistan elements during an anti-Khalistan march. On June 5, Punjab's jails minister Harjot Singh Bains paid a surprise visit to Ludhiana Central Jail. He said, "Punjab CM has vowed to reform Punjab jails which had become safehouses for gangsters till now. We have recovered around 1,000 mobile phones so far. This is a record seizure. A sinister conspiracy to stage a mass breakout of terrorists and gangsters from jails - this intelligence alert has reportedly been received by Punjab authorities. The state is already reeling from a series of high-profile crimes, including the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala. The latest conspiracy is reportedly being hatched by gangsters and terrorists sitting in Pakistan.
The intel alert was sent to Punjab Police by the Union Home Ministry, as per an Indian Express report. Four prisons - Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Ferozepur - might be on the target list. The objective is to ensure the release of some prominent gangsters and Khalistani terrorists. Apart from career criminals, 'jihadi' elements might also be roped in to help, as per the report.
The mastermind behind the conspiracy is believed to be Harvinder Singh Rinda. He is a gangster-turned-terrorists believed to be in Pakistan currently. Rinda is considered close to Babbar Khalsa International chief Wadhawa Singh. He is believed to be under the protection of Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI.

Rinda is one of the main suspects in the attack on Punjab Police's Intelligence headquarters in Mohali. The building had been hit by a grenade on May 9. Rinda is also believed to have had a hand in the terror attack in Nawanshahr on November 8, 2021. Crime Investigation Agency's building had been targeted in the attack. Alleged associates of Rinda had been held in May 2022 in a weapon smuggling case.
Punjab has a dark history of jailbreaks. One of the most high-profile was the Nabha incident in November 2016. A dozen people broke into the prison and freed 6 alleged terrorists and gangsters. Two years later, a 50-year-old serving a 10-year sentence escaped from the same prison.
Then, in February 2020, three inmates escaped from Amritsar Central Jail by scaling the boundary wall. A month later, four prisoners used blankets as rope to climb out of the Ludhiana Central Jail. In May 2020, two murder and attempted murder convicts broke out of Sangrur Jail. In April 2021, three prisoners escaped from Patiala Central Jail during night curfew in the city.
Punjab has been in headlines for the past few weeks due to multiple law and order issues. On March 14, international kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian killed in Jalandhar. On April 29, clashes occurred between Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), and alleged pro-Khalistan elements during an anti-Khalistan march. On May 9, the Punjab Police intel HQ in Mohali was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade. Less than 3 weeks later, Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in Mansa.
On June 5, Punjab's jails minister Harjot Singh Bains paid a surprise visit to Ludhiana Central Jail. He said, "Punjab CM has vowed to reform Punjab jails which had become safehouses for gangsters till now. We have recovered around 1,000 mobile phones so far. This is a record seizure. We're making sure jammers which had been malfunctioning are working properly now. We're getting jammers installed where they were missing."

This is the first conviction and sentencing in the Capital riots case.

25-year-old Dinesh Yadav was found guilty of being a member of an unlawful assembly, rioting, arson, house trespassing, and robbery. He was part of the mob that set the house of 73-year-old Manori on fire during the riots.
As per the prosecution, Yadav was an "active member of the riotous mob" and took active participation in vandalizing and arson on the night of February 25, 2020.

The elderly woman had said a mob of around 150 to 200 rioters attacked her house on February 25, when her family was away, and looted several valuables.
As per the prosecution, Yadav was an "active member of the riotous mob" and took active participation in vandalizing and arson on the night of February 25, 2020.
