A massive fire at a residence in &nbsp;Canada's Ontario province claimed the lives of an Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter.

An Indian-origin couple and their teenage daughter were killed in a "suspicious" fire which tore through their home last week in Canada's Ontario province, police said on Friday.
A fire engulfed a home at the Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive area of Brampton on March 7, a press release by the Peel Police said.
After the blaze was put out, investigators located what was believed to be human remains within the gutted house, but the number of people killed couldn't be ascertained at the time.
The charred remains were on Friday identified as those of three family members: 51-year-old Rajiv Warikoo; his wife, 47-year-old Shilpa Kotha; and their 16-year-old daughter, Mahek Warikoo.
Police said that they resided at the address before the fire.
Peel police Constable Taryn Young on Friday said the fire had been deemed suspicious, the CTV news channel reported.
"At this time, we are investigating this with our homicide bureau, and we are deeming this as suspicious as the Ontario Fire Marshal has deemed that this fire was not accidental," the report quoted Young as saying.
"There's not much left to it," Young said when asked about the possible cause of the fire.
"Looking into something like that as a fire marshal, I'm sure it's very tough when there is not much left to look at. But we are exhausting all avenues," she said.
The deceased family's neighbour, Kenneth Yousaf, said that the family had lived on the street for about 15 years, and he never noticed any problems with them.
Yousaf said he was alerted to the fire last week by a family member, who heard a big "bang." "When we came out, the house was on fire. So sad. Within a few hours, everything was down to the ground," the report quoted Yousaf as saying.
In a press release, police said they are continuing to investigate the deaths of the three family members and urged anyone with information to come forward.
"The circumstances surrounding the house fire remains the focus of an active investigation, and anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) is urged to contact Homicide detectives," police said.

Dr Sudipta Mohanty was arrested on Thursday and charged by criminal complaint with one count of lewd, indecent and obscene acts while in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the US, according to the US Attorney&rsquo;s Office in Massachusetts.
Mohanty, an internal medicine and primary care doctor, was released on conditions following an initial appearance in federal court in Boston, it said in a press release on Thursday.
In May last year, Mohanty, travelling with a female companion on a flight en route from Honolulu to Boston, was seated next to a 14-year-old minor travelling with her grandparents.
According to the charging documents, halfway through the flight, the minor observed that Mohanty was masturbating. She moved to an empty seat in a different row for the remainder of the flight and informed family members about the incident after arriving in Boston. Subsequently, law enforcement was notified.

Rajinder Pal Singh, aka Jaspal Gill, pleaded guilty in February, admitting that he took in more than USD 500,000 as a key member of a smuggling ring, bringing in hundreds of Indian nationals across the border from Canada, the Department of Justice said in a press release.
Singh, a resident of California, was sentenced on Tuesday in a US District Court to "45 months in prison for Conspiracy to Transport and Harbor Certain Aliens for Profit and Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering," said Acting US Attorney Tessa M. Gorman.
"Over a four-year period, Mr Singh arranged for more than 800 people to be smuggled into the US across the northern border and into Washington State," said Gorman.
She asserted that Singh's conduct was not just a security risk for Washington but also subjected those smuggled to security and safety perils during the often weeks-long smuggling route from India to the US.
"Mr Singh's participation in this conspiracy preyed upon the Indian nationals' hopes for a better life in the US while saddling those smuggled with a crushing debt of as much as USD 70,000," Gorman said.
From July 2018, Singh and his co-conspirators used Uber to transport people who had illegally crossed the border from Canada to the Seattle area, the press release said, citing records filed in the case.

Rajesh Dhirajlal Vaghela, 46, from Stanmore in north London, received a 25,000 pounds loan before closing his business in an effort to avoid repaying the taxpayer loan.

The suspect drove dangerously in the parking lot before leaving the property, a police official was quoted as saying in the report.

He sustained multiple fractures to his skull and was taken to a hospital, reported The Straits Times newspaper on Friday.
He was cremated at Mandai Crematorium on Friday evening, it said.
Muhammed Azfary Abdul Kaha, 27, who pushed Shanmugam, was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt a day after the incident.
It was not mentioned in court documents if the two men knew each other before the incident.

Deputy Public Prosecutor said that Sowrirajulu was working for Infinite Logistics and Trading at the time of the accident in May 2022, it said Sowrirajulu pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing grievous injury while driving without due care or reasonable consideration, the report said.
His blood ethanol concentration was found to be about three times that of the legal limit.

After the flight landed, the passenger Ramkant was handed over to the Sahar police. Where he was taken into custody and booked under various sections of the IPC. The Police said that the accused is of Indian origin but a citizen of the United States of America and holds a US passport.

Harjinder &lsquo;Harry&rsquo; Takhar, a father of four, went missing in October and a body discovered recently in Telford was identified as him earlier this week, after formal identification by the local West Mercia Police.
The police said Takhar&rsquo;s family had been informed and his death was not being treated as suspicious.
&ldquo;This is a sad outcome to what has been a challenging and emotional search, but I&rsquo;m pleased that Harry&rsquo;s family now have some closure,&rdquo; Detective Inspector Jo Whitehead, who led the enquiries into the disappearance.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;d like to thank the public for their incredible response to our appeals to locate Harry and all the information that they provided to us during our enquiries. Harry&rsquo;s family have asked me to express their sincere thanks for the support they have received from the community since Harry&rsquo;s disappearance, and have asked that their privacy is respected at this distressing time,&rdquo; he said.
According to local media reports, the disappearance was described as &ldquo;completely out of character&rdquo; by Takhar&rsquo;s family and mobilised the local community in the search. West Mercia Police issued several appeals over the months since Takhar's went missing.
A Facebook group was launched and attracted over 8,000 members with messages of support flooding in from friends and strangers. A social media campaign was also launched using the hashtag #HelpHarryHome.
&ldquo;He was a family man, who was a very jolly character and full of energy and life,&rdquo; wife Ran told &lsquo;Birmingham Live&rsquo;.
Takhar disappeared in the Stirchley Pools area of Telford in Shropshire.

An Indian-origin doctor in the United Kingdom has been handed two life sentences in addition to three he is already serving, according to reports.
A UK criminal court on 9 January 2023 sentenced 53-year-old Manish Shah to two life terms with a minimum of 10 years. In December 2022, Shah was found guilty of 25 sexual assaults against 4 women at his clinic in east London.
&nbsp;Shah is now convicted of 115 offences of sexual assault against 28 women aged between 15 and 34.
The trial heard that Shah used high-profile cases of celebrities to persuade female patients to undergo unnecessary intimate examinations for his sexual gratification over four years from 2009.
Sentencing at the Central Criminal Court, Judge Peter Rook said that Shah remained a "danger to women" and his behaviour caused "long-term psychological damage" to his victims, the BBC reported.
During the December trial, the court was told that Shah presented himself as a caring and considerate doctor prepared to go "above and beyond" for his patients by carrying out extra examinations.
But prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC described how the doctor "manipulated and abused" women, according to the report.

An Indian-origin woman and her two young children were found with serious injuries at their home in the Northampton region of eastern England.&nbsp;
Police officers were called to the residential property on Thursday morning and said that despite their best efforts and that of the paramedics, the woman died at the scene and the two children later died in the hospital.
The local police say they have launched a murder investigation.&nbsp;
The woman has been identified as a 40-year-old Malayali nurse from Kottayam with a six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter
A 52-year-old man, believed to be the woman's husband, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and remains in police custody. Northamptonshire Police said officers are not seeking anyone else in relation to the &ldquo;desperately sad&rdquo; case.

&ldquo;There are no words to describe how upsetting this incident is, but I want to reassure the public that we have a team of detectives working on the case, absolutely determined to get justice for this woman and the two children,&rdquo; said Superintendent Steve Freeman, Local Policing Area Commander for Northamptonshire Police.
&ldquo;We understand that the local community, and indeed many people across the country, will be shocked by this event. It is a desperately sad incident and I want to be absolutely clear on our unwavering commitment in establishing what has happened here and in seeking justice for this woman and these young children,&rdquo; he said.
He said the man they arrested is being questioned by detectives in custody and asked for anyone with any information to contact them.
Forensic post-mortem examinations to establish the cause of death will be taking place in the coming days after which the names of the victims will be formally released.
Locally, tributes have started pouring in for the nurse, who worked at Kettering General Hospital, and her children. Her husband reportedly worked at a hotel and the family is believed to have been in the UK for around a year or so.
&ldquo;All of us in Kettering find ourselves shocked by the news of the tragic deaths of three members of our community,&rdquo; said Councillor Keli Watts, Mayor of Kettering.
&ldquo;We all send our love and support to the friends and family of the victims and also to neighbours at Petherton Court. We all stand ready to support those affected,&rdquo; she said.
&ldquo;This is a tragic case and my thoughts are with the loved-ones of the victims at this time,&rdquo; added Councillor Jason Smithers, leader of local North Northants Council.&nbsp;

A 24-year-old Indian-origin Sikh man has died of gunshot wounds in the Canadian province of Alberta, with police citing homicide as the reason for his death, the second such incident this month in this country.
The victim, identified as Sanraj Singh, was located by the police in Edmonton city when they responded to a gunshot report on December 3 night, an Edmonton police news release said.
Singh was found sitting in a vehicle in medical distress. The police performed CPR, a life-saving technique, until the Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared him dead.

The autopsy report revealed homicide to be the manner of death, the press release said.

&nbsp;A Korean student who allegedly stabbed his Indian-origin roommate to death in their dormitory at the prestigious Purdue University has said he was "very sorry" for killing his friend but contended that he had been &ldquo;blackmailed&rdquo;, according to a media report.
Varun Manish Chheda, 20, from Indianapolis, was found dead in McCutcheon Hall on the western edge of the campus last Wednesday.
Ji Min &ldquo;Jimmy&rdquo; Sha, a junior cybersecurity major and international student from Korea was arrested in connection with the murder.
Sha, 22, made his first court appearance on Friday before Tippecanoe County Magistrate Sarah Wyatt since being arrested for allegedly stabbing Chheda to death.
&ldquo;I was blackmailed,&rdquo; the suspect said when asked about a motive for the crime. He did not elaborate, WLFI, a television station in Indiana, reported.
When asked if he had anything to say to the victim&rsquo;s family, Sha replied: &ldquo;I am very sorry.&rdquo; Last week, Sha appeared to mutter &ldquo;I love my family&rdquo; as he was hauled to jail for allegedly killing Chheda, a senior data science major who the Tippecanoe County coroner said died of &ldquo;multiple sharp-force traumatic injuries.&rdquo; Sha called the police about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday to say he had fatally stabbed his roommate in their room at McCutcheon Hall.
Police found Chheda in a chair and Sha covered in what appeared to be blood, according to the outlet. They also observed what they believed to be blood spattered on the wall, along with a pool of blood and a folding knife on the floor.
The suspect reportedly admitted that the knife was his and that he had used it to kill his roommate.
Chheda&rsquo;s friends have said they had been gaming with the victim when they suddenly heard him screaming.
Indiana police described the crime as an &ldquo;unprovoked and senseless&rdquo; murder.&nbsp;

Bulchandani, who has been serving as Global President and CEO of Ogilvy North America, succeeds Andy Main, the company said in a statement.
In her new role, Bulchandani will now be responsible for all aspects of Ogilvy’s business across 131 offices in 93 countries which look at advertising, public relations, consulting, and health units.
Bulchandani was born and brought up in Amritsar and is one of four siblings. She studied at Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun, followed by St Xavier’s in Mumbai.  She also did a Master’s in Communications from the University of Southern California in 1991. She moved to the US after getting married and has worked there since.
Bulchandani is the latest in a slew of Indian-origin executives taking leadership role in global multinationals in varied fields. Last week coffee giant Starbucks appointed Laxman Narasimhan as CEO.

Bulchandani, who has been serving as Global President and CEO of Ogilvy North America, succeeds Andy Main who is stepping down as Global CEO and will serve as a Senior Advisor until the end of the year, the company said in a statement.
In her new role she will be responsible for all aspects of the creative network&rsquo;s business across 131 offices in 93 countries and spanning its advertising, public relations, experience, consulting, and health units, it added.

He was also Delhi president of the National Students' Union of India, or NSUI, the Congress' student wing.
Chopra has been in the UK for over 40 years, and runs a wholesale business of children's garments and baby products. He has been active in UK politics since 2010, and also co-founded the Southwark Hindu Centre for the Indian community.
