Hundreds of foreign passport holders and wounded trapped in Gaza started leaving the war-torn territory on Wednesday as the Rafah crossing to Egypt opened to allow people to through the border point.&nbsp;
Convoys of desperately needed aid have been passing between Egypt and Gaza through the Rafah crossing.&nbsp;
Large crowds gathered at the crossing with reports indicating 545 foreigners and dual nationals along with about 90 sick and wounded were expected to leave
After being allowed into the terminal area, huge queues formed around crossing booths for checks on passports and other documents.
Ambulances waited on the Egyptian side to take away the wounded and sick.
The zone around the terminal has been hit during Israeli air raids on Gaza after the Hamas attacks which Israeli authorities say left 1,400 dead, mostly civilians. Another 240 people were taken hostage.
Some of those being taken out for treatment in Egyptian hospitals are among more than 15,000 wounded in retaliatory Israeli strikes, which the Hamas-run health ministry says have killed more than 8,500 people, two-thirds of them women and children.

However, the news outlet could not verify the cause and the exact location of the blast.&nbsp;

The Israeli military has said that it "accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post" with a tank, near the border with Gaza, as the army bombarded the Palestinian enclave.
"The IDF (Israeli military) expresses sorrow regarding the incident" near the Kerem Shalom area, an army statement said.
This comes after the blast and sound of ambulances were heard near the Rafah crossing border soon after trucks carrying aid entered into Gaza from Egypt on October 22.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, an Egypt's military spokesman said an unspecified number of border guards sustained "minor injuries" from "fragments of a shell accidentally fired from an Israeli tank".
The Egyptian army said Israel had "immediately expressed its regret over the unintentional incident and an investigation is underway".

Rafah crossing is the only border point in and out of Gaza that is not controlled by Israel.&nbsp;

The sarcophagus of ancient Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II was unveiled to reporters in Paris on Thursday following its rare journey outside of Egypt.
The ornate coffin will be on show to the public in the French capital from April 7 to September 6.
Benedicte Lhoyer, scientific advisor to the exhibition, told AFP the "exceptional" loan was thanks to "an unprecedented cooperation between France and Egypt".
The Ramses II exhibition is on a tour that includes the United States and Australia, but only France is receiving the sarcophagus, in recognition of the assistance from French scientists who helped save the mummy from decay following a previous visit to Paris in 1976.
The mummy itself has stayed behind this time, since Egyptian law now forbids transporting royal mummies abroad.
Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, ruled for more than 60 years during the 13th century BC and oversaw major military conquests and monumental construction projects, while also finding time to father more than 100 children.
"In short, he was an extraordinary king," said Lhoyer.
France has 54 antiquities teams working in Egypt, an official said -- the most of the 25 countries who currently have research teams there.
The yellow-painted cedar-wood sarcophagus, which depicts the recumbent king in bright colours with his arms crossed on his chest holding a sceptre and whip, was not actually Ramses II's original coffin.
Inscriptions on the sarcophagus' sides detail how his body was moved three times from 1070 BC, after his tomb in Luxor's Valley of the Kings was raided by grave-robbers.
Its final resting place was discovered almost three millenia later in 1881, just as it too was being pillaged.
The immersive exhibition in Paris also features an abundance of statues, masks and jewellery from the period -- more than 180 objects in total -- as well as a 3D recreation of one of the king's battles against the Hittite empire.
Egyptian relics have proved a hit in the past -- some 1.4 million people came to see an exhibition about Tutankhamun in Paris four years ago.
The new exhibition at the Grande Halle de la Villette promises to be even more popular, organisers said Thursday, with 145,000 tickets already sold, significantly higher than the pre-opening numbers for Tutankhamun.
"Ramses II defeated time. Like Tutankhamun, he has become immortal," said Lhoyer.

Have we crossed the point of no return? Is it, indeed, too late to save the world? This seemed to be the question on everyone&rsquo;s mind at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, hosted this year at Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt. On a sombre and alarming note, Alok Sharma, the President of last year&rsquo;s conference, began with a wake up call for world leaders, reminding everyone of the havoc that climate change has wrought in the past year.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also did not mince his words.
This rhetoric is not new. In October, the UN had said that current plans submitted by governments would lead to a temperature rise of about 2.5 degrees celsius, condemning the world to a catastrophic climate breakdown.

At COP26 in Glasgow, countries agreed to limit global heating to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, a threshold set out in the 2015 Paris climate agreement, which would avoid the worst ravages of climate change. Even a fraction of a degree more can lead to many more lives lost. China, the United States, Europe and India have all failed to reduce their emissions enough to meet their Paris Agreement goals.
The inequality that led to and is propagated by climate change was at the forefront of COP27. Poorer nations, which have historically contributed the least to climate change, but bear the brunt of its most devastating consequences today, are seeking more reparations from rich countries, many of which have grown their economies and amassed wealth by burning fossil fuels.
The Indian contingent at COP27 was led by Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, who also campaigned for a new fund for addressing loss and damage. India has launched the LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment movement, which encourages people the world over to live a lifestyle that is in tune with our planet and does not harm it.

Climate cooperation has also been harmed by the Ukraine-Russia war, which has thrown global markets in turmoil in addition to causing widespread damage and loss of life in Ukraine. It has led to a global energy crisis and driven up the price of food, fuel and fertilisers.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the gathering virtually, stressing that there can be no global climate policy without peace.
The message from Climate scientists and experts is clear - time is running out, and fast. The goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5C, in order to avoid large scale damage, may already be unreachable. At COP27, most agreed that if humanity is to save itself, drastic action is required, and required immediately.&nbsp;

El-Sisi, the chief guest at the 2023 Republic Day celebrations, was accorded a ceremonial welcome which included a 21-gun salute.
El-Sisi is visiting India as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The Indian government said, "The visit is an opportunity to review and strengthen our multifaceted ties."
The Egyptian leader arrived in India on 24 January for a 3-day visit, with wide-ranging talks and inkinf of half a dozen agreements scheduled for the following day.
The Egyptian president previously visited India in October 2015 to participate in the third India-Africa Forum Summit which was followed by his state visit in September 2016.
This is for the first time that the President of Egypt has been invited as the chief guest to India's Republic Day celebrations. A military contingent from the Egyptian Army will also participate in the Republic Day parade.

European scientists have reconstructed the face of an Egyptian woman who died 2,000 years ago, using her mummified remains. During their analysis, the researchers discovered that the woman, dubbed "The Mysterious Lady," was pregnant.
Using CT scans and X-rays, forensic specialists worked on facial reconstructions of the mummy, resulting in two different interpretations of the woman's likeness.
In both reconstructions, the dark-skinned young woman with brown eyes is seen looking straight ahead, providing a realistic image of her lost in thought.
An examination using tomographic imaging revealed last year that the woman was in her 20s when she died and was in the 26th-30th weeks of her pregnancy.
In the 1800s, the Mysterious Lady was discovered in royal tombs in northern Egypt. Scientists dated the body to the first century BC.&nbsp;
Originally, it was thought to be the remains of a priest, but in 2016, the mummified body was found to be an embalmed woman.

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has announced the allocation of $500 million for reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
El-Sissi's office said in a Facebook post Tuesday that Egyptian firms would contribute in the re-building efforts.
Egypt, which is leading mediation efforts to reach a cease-fire, has sent some two dozen trucks carrying humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza through the Raffah crossing point.
It has also received wounded people from the latest round of violence to be treated in Egyptian hospitals.

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi has announced the allocation of $500 million for reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
El-Sissi's office said in a Facebook post Tuesday that Egyptian firms would contribute in the re-building efforts.
Egypt, which is leading mediation efforts to reach a cease-fire, has sent some two dozen trucks carrying humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza through the Raffah crossing point.
It has also received wounded people from the latest round of violence to be treated in Egyptian hospitals.

A joint statement, issued by the US, on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) said, "On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, We, the above listed signatories of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, established and adopted in 1948, recommit ourselves today to the Declaration and its foundational ideal that certain principles are so fundamental as to apply to all human beings, everywhere, at all times."
"India is proud to endorse the US initiative on the Joint Statement on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," India's Permanent Mission to the UN tweeted.
Other nations joining the US on the statement include Bahrain, Brazil, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Maldives, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
"We recognise the many differences in our cultural, political, legal, religious, and other traditions, yet reaffirm fundamental freedoms and rights for all, and reassert our commitment to honouring the dignity of all persons that is the basis for our commitments under the UDHR," the joint statement said.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a "milestone document" in the history of human rights.
Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in Paris in December 1948 as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and foreign ministers of the UAE and Bahrain for the signing of the historic Abraham Accord. It is the first Arab-Israeli peace deal in 26 years. Calling it the dawn of a new Middle East, Trump said that courage of the three leaders will bring a future in which people of all faiths and backgrounds live together in peace and prosperity. The Arab Accord, which is a set of bilateral agreements with Israel, does not mention the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Washington, PTI: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain for the signing of the historic Abraham Accord, which is the first Arab-Israeli peace deal in 26 years.
"We are here this afternoon to change the course of history. After decades of division and conflict we mark the dawn of a new Middle East," Trump said, moments before the accord was signed at the South Lawns of the White House.
The UAE was represented by Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed and Bahrain by Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani. The Arab Accord -- essentially bilateral agreements with Israel -- does not mention the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"Thanks to the great courage of the leaders of these three countries we take a major stride towards a future in which people of all faiths and backgrounds live together in peace and prosperity," Trump said.
The president pointed out that these were the only two peace deals between Israel and the Arab States in more than a quarter of a century. Egypt was the first Arab State to sign a peace deal with Israel in 1979. Jordon signed a peace pact in 1994.
"Now we have achieved two in a single month and there are more to follow," Trump said.
As per the agreements, the UAE and Bahrain will establish embassies, exchange ambassadors, cooperate and work together with Israel across a range of sectors, including tourism, trade, healthcare and security. "They are friends. The Abraham Accords also open the door for Muslims around the world to visit the historic sites in Israel and to peacefully pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam," Trump said, amidst applause and cheer from more than 200 invited guests.
Together these agreements will serve as the foundation for comprehensive peace across the entire region, Trump said.
Netanyahu described the accord as a "pivot of history", heralding a new dawn. "For thousands of years the Jewish people have prayed for peace. For decades, the Jewish state has prayed for peace and this is why today we are filled with such profound gratitude," he said.
"You have heard from the president that he has already lined up more and more countries. This was unimaginable a few years ago. But with resolve, determination, a fresh look at the way peace is done, this is being achieved," Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu said Israel is eager to invest in a future of prosperity, and peace.
"We've already begun to cooperate on combating coronavirus and I am sure that together we can find solutions to many of the problems that afflict our region and beyond," he said.
Foreign Minister Zayed said the UAE is witnessing a change in the Middle-East, one that gives hope around the world.

Far-right Norwegian lawmaker Christian Tybring-Gjedde on Wednesday nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in mediating the deal between Israel and the UAE which is seen as a historic step towards peace in the Middle East.
Israel and the UAE announced on August 13 that they were establishing full diplomatic relations. The first commercial direct flight between Israel and the UAE landed in Abu Dhabi on August 31 after both countries announced normalisation of relations. The deal would be signed on September 15 at the White House.
The UAE is only the third Arab country to establish diplomatic ties with the Jewish state. Israel's neighbours, Egypt and Jordan, being the other two Arab states to recognise Israel.
"President Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his work in brokering an Israel-United Arab Emirates peace deal. It was a historic deal and the first such deal in over two decades. This is a hard-earned and well-deserved honour for this President," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Wednesday.
President Trump has made peace a cornerstone of his recent foreign policy efforts, she said.
Any lawmaker serving in a national legislature can nominate a person for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Tybring-Gjedde was one of two Norwegian lawmakers who nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 for his efforts to bring reconciliation between North Korea and South Korea. The 2018 prize was won by Denis Mukwege from Congo and Nadia Murad from Iraq for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.
In his nomination letter on Wednesday, Tybring-Gjedde, a member of the Norwegian Parliament for the far-right Progress Party, also cited Trump's &ldquo;key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and &hellip; creating new dynamics in other protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea,&rdquo; the Fox News reported.
Trump has repeatedly in the past offered to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. However, India has maintained that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral one and no third party has any role.
McEnany said that the president's foreign policy will always be one of peace through strength, and that is what the American people are seeing abroad.
"Career politicians merely talk about the kind of results this president has achieved on the world stage," she said.
"These wins are possible because of the President's leadership and outsider perspective. President Trump addresses old challenges with new solutions and delivers results for the American people," she said.
Highlighting Trump's initiatives, McEnany said that the US has announced a drawdown of troops in Iraq from 5,200 to 3,000.
"We've secured better trade deals for the American worker. President Trump negotiated the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), the U.S.-South Korea deal; ended the Trans-Pacific Partnership; brought back manufacturing jobs," she said. "President Trump has stood up to China: the phase one China deal; also tariffs to hold China accountable; and actions to block Huawei," she said.
President Trump has also defeated terrorists. The ISIS caliphate is destroyed. Al-Baghdadi is no longer on the battlefield, along with Iranian General Soleimani, she said.
He has also brokered economic normalisation between Serbia and Kosovo, a major breakthrough in this decades-old conflict, McEnany added.&nbsp;
