Nepal police busted a human trafficking racket in Kathmandu and freed 11 Indian nationals, mostly students, held hostage for over two weeks.

Eleven Indian nationals, mostly students, held hostage for over two weeks with a promise to facilitate travel to the USA, were rescued as Nepal police busted a human trafficking racket and arrested eight Indian mafia members along with their Nepali accomplice here.
Nepal police named it &lsquo;Operation Dunki&rsquo; as the case turned out to be similar to the situation shown in popular Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan&rsquo;s 2023 movie Dunki. The rescued persons and mafia members came mostly from the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana.
The 11 persons were kept as hostages in a rented house for more than two weeks on the outskirts of Kathmandu, police said on Thursday.
The Kathmandu District Police Range team carried out the operation starting Wednesday night and the raid continued till the wee hours.
Acting on a tip-off, raided a private residence belonging to a Nepali national at Dhobikhola Corridor, Ratopul, and rescued the 11 Indian nationals, who were taken hostage in the pretext of sending them to the USA via Mexico.
The agents, including the Indian mafia members, charged the Indian nationals, mostly students, Rs 4.5 million per person with the false promise of sending to the USA, and an additional USD 3,000 was charged as a visa fee upon their arrival here in Kathmandu, District Police chief Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Bahadur Khatri told a press meet here.
Cases would be booked against each of the accused under sections pertaining to abduction, taking hostage, and human trafficking as per the Nepalese law, he said, adding, that a Nepali accomplice, who helped them in providing logistic services, was also arrested.
The freed Indians are staying at a hotel in Kathmandu as per the arrangements made by Nepal Police and they will be sent back to India coordinating with the Indian Embassy, Foreign Ministry, and other officials concerned, the police chief said.
When the hostages stayed at the rented house for more than two weeks, they were mentally and physically tortured, threatened, and locked in the rooms, he said.
&ldquo;Some of us were told, on a knife-point, to contact our family in India to assure them that we were safe and on the way to USA,&rdquo; one of the rescued persons told PTI.
All the documents, including visa and boarding passes, were forged while the police have recovered the passports of the victims along with fake rubber stamps and other forged documents from the site, Khatri said

&lsquo;Dunki,&rsquo; which was released in theatres on December 21, depicts the emotional voyage of a circle of friends aspiring to relocate abroad. The narrative tracks their adventurous pursuit through an unconventional path called the Donkey Flight, showcasing the challenges they encounter along the way.
Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, the film features Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles. Notably, the movie amassed a remarkable sum of over Rs 300 crore at the Indian box office.
Despite the positive reception from audiences, Rajkumar Hirani disclosed in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha that Shah Rukh Khan was convinced that while the comedy-drama &lsquo;Dunki&rsquo; would resonate with audiences, it might not achieve the same blockbuster numbers as action-packed films like &lsquo;Jawan&rsquo; and &lsquo;Pathaan.&rsquo;
&lsquo;He had always told me not to expect huge numbers at the box office initially. He knew it was a slow burner and the audience and family would eventually lap up to the film and start coming in. More than anyone, he was preparing me and that is what exactly happened. We have seen many families coming together to theatres to watch the film,&rsquo; he told us.
According to a recent report by Box Office Worldwide, &lsquo;Dunki&rsquo; is being considered for submission for The Academy Awards nomination. While there's no official confirmation yet, if this speculation holds true, it would mark Shah Rukh Khan's third film to be submitted for Oscar consideration. Previously, his 2004 movie &lsquo;Swades&rsquo; and 2005 film &lsquo;Paheli&rsquo; were also submitted for this prestigious recognition.

Currently, the total earning of the film stands at ₹188.22 crore, as per Sacnilk. On Sunday, 'Dunki' had an overall occupancy of 38.49 percent for its shows. This includes ₹1.11 crore from 35,946 tickets for Hindi shows and ₹3.5 crore from 1,29,010 tickets for Telugu shows. The film is releasing in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam as well and the advance booking for these languages is slowly picking up. The tickets worth ₹12 lakh for Tamil shows, ₹9.9 lakh for Kannada and ₹98 lakh for Malayalam shows have already been sold.

The new release date of Prabhas&rsquo; much-awaited movie &lsquo;Salaar&rsquo; has finally been announced and it is set to clash at the box office with Shah Rukh Khan&rsquo;s &lsquo;Dunki&rsquo;.
Sharing a new poster of the film, featuring Prabhas, Hombale Films announced that &lsquo;Salaar&rsquo; will hit theatres on December 22.
In the poster, Prabhas can be seen in a rugged look, holding a sword in his hand.
&lsquo;Salaar&rsquo; was initially supposed to release on September 28 and was scheduled to clash at the box office with Vivek Agnihotri&rsquo;s &lsquo;The Vaccine War&rsquo;. The film was pushed to December due to its pending post-production work.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, &lsquo;Salaar&rsquo; also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, and Meenakshi Chaudhary. The film is produced by Hombale Films, the team behind KGF and Kantara.

On Janmashtami, on Krishnajis birthday we released this film (Jawan).&rsquo;

Priyanka Chahar Choudhary addressed the rumours of bagging a role in Shah Rukh Khan&rsquo;s 'Dunki'.

'Bigg Boss 16' finalist Priyanka Chahar Choudhary made headlines for her stint in the controversial reality show. Recently, reports of her bagging a role in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dunki' were doing the rounds. Now, the 'Udaariyaan' star has addressed these rumours.
In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com, she said, 'Honestly, we have been locked inside for the last four months so I didn&rsquo;t even know about SRK&rsquo;s film Dunki. It&rsquo;s now while speaking to the media that I am hearing about it.'
She added, 'I had no idea and I haven&rsquo;t even had time to talk to my team. But oh my god, if it&rsquo;s true I am overjoyed. I had never thought I would get something like this.'
When asked if she will be taking a break from Television for her debut in Bollywood, Priyanka said, 'Not at all, TV has given me a lot and I can never think about quitting it. If there are good projects as everyone is talking about, I would definitely love to work on them but will never quit working on TV.'
Priyanka Chahar Choudhary was declared as the third runner-up of Salman Khan hosted 'Bigg Boss 16' on February 12.
