The Delhi Police on Tuesday destroyed contraband worth Rs 1,600 crore in a drive under its 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' in the presence of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, officials said.
"Today in the presence of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, 10631.745 kg of illegal drugs worth about Rs 1,600 crores (sic) in the international market were destroyed as per procedure at the incinerator located at SSI Industrial Area, GT Karnal Road, Near Jahangirpuri, Delhi," Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia said.
According to a Union finance ministry notification and the order of the Supreme Court, various committees were formed by the Delhi Police to destroy illegal drugs recovered from the drug smugglers.
The destroyed contraband came from seizures in drug cases from 2009 to 2023.
"Ganja, heroin, charas, cocaine, doda post and psychotropic substances were prominent among the illegal drugs destroyed. In the future also, the process of destroying illegal drugs will continue to be done in this manner," Bhatia said.
Saxena hailed the destruction of narcotics, calling the move a step towards a drugs-free India.
"Set in motion the destruction of over 10 tonnes of drugs and contrabands (sic) worth Rs 1600 crore, seized by Delhi Police in the National Capital between 2009 and 2023," he said in a post on X.
"This marks a big stride towards making a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat,' as envisioned by PM Narendra Modi. This is the third tranche of drugs being destroyed in Delhi in just 14 months. Previously, 2888 KG in Dec 2022 and 15,700 KG tonnes in June 2023," he added.&nbsp;

Mexico claims largest synthetic drug lab bust to date: these many fentanyl pills found

Soldiers raided the lab Tuesday and found almost 630,000 pills that appear to contain the synthetic opioid fentanyl. They also reported seizing 282 pounds (128 kg) of powdered fentanyl and about 220 pounds (100 kg) of suspected methamphetamines.

Mexican soldiers seized more than a half million fentanyl pills in a raid on what the army's announcement Wednesday called the largest synthetic drug lab found to date.
The army said the outdoor lab was discovered in Culiacan, the capital of the northern state of Sinaloa. Sinaloa is home to the drug cartel of the same name.
Soldiers raided the lab Tuesday and found almost 630,000 pills that appear to contain the synthetic opioid fentanyl. They also reported seizing 282 pounds (128 kg) of powdered fentanyl and about 220 pounds (100 kg) of suspected methamphetamines.
&ldquo;This is the highest-capacity synthetic drug production lab on record during this administration,&rdquo; the army said in a statement.
Mexican drug cartels produce the opioid from precursor chemicals shipped from China, and then press it into pills counterfeited to look like Xanax, Percocet or Oxycodone. People often take the pills without knowing they contain fentanyl and can suffer deadly overdoses.
The bust came on the same day that the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee held a hearing on the huge number of U.S. fentanyl overdoses that occur annually, currently around 70,000.
The committee's chair, Sen. Bob Menendez , a Democrat from New Jersey, called on Mexico to do more.
&ldquo;This means asking Mexico to do more to disrupt the criminal organisations from producing and trafficking fentanyl, although a politicised judiciary and incidents of Mexican security forces colluding with drug cartels will make that difficult,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;

As per reports, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy has also been called in for questioning.

Actor Rakul Preet Singh summoned by probe agency in money laundering case

As per reports, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy has also been called in for questioning.

Actor Rakul Preet Singh has reportedly been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in a drugs-related money laundering case revolving around the Telugu film industry drugs case. According to Times Now, the agency has summoned the actor on December 19.
As per reports, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy has also been called in for questioning.
Earlier, several other Tollywood personalities had been summoned by the ED in connection with the case that was busted by Telangana's Prohibition and Excise department in 2017.

The court has asked the NCB to file a reply and posted the matter for hearing on July 13.Aryan Khan was arrested in the drugs case in October last year and was granted bail after three weeks. As per his bail conditions, Aryan Khan had submitted his passport in court and was restricted from travelling outside Mumbai.
In a chargesheet filed by the NCB in May, Aryan was not named as an accused in the case due to 'lack of sufficient evidence.'

On Friday, Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was given a clean chit by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the drugs-on-cruise case, citing an 'error' in the first probe, led by Sameer Wankhede. After the news broke out, actor Pooja Bhatt and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to Twitter to share their reactions.
In her tweet, Pooja named Sameer [Wankhede], who led the initial probe in this case, and wrote 'Sameer who? Er sorry,where? Ah! Probably very busy being a righteous,publicity shy officer elsewhere? The first probe team in the case was led by former NCB official Sameer Wankhede.

Atul Kasbekar, producer of films 'Neerja' and 'Tumhari Sulu,' slammed a section of the media for their coverage of the case on Twitter. 'Now that there’s a complete clean chit for #AryanKhan by all the concerned govt agencies… I don’t suppose there’s an apology or some introspection forthcoming from all the media channels that were crucifying the kid in this flimsy case? Too much to expect some good grace," he wrote.
In October 2021, Aryan Khan was arrested by the NCB in connection to a drug raid on a Mumbai cruise. He spent 26 days in jail before he was granted bail.

The NCB has seized about 50 kg of "high-quality" heroin and arrested a man after it conducted raids in the Shaheen Bagh area of Delhi's Jamia Nagar, the federal anti-narcotics agency said on Thursday, claiming to have busted an Indo-Afghan drug-smuggling racket.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Deputy Director General (operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh said during a press briefing that cash amounting to Rs 30 lakh was also seized after the operation at a residential premises in the south Delhi area on Wednesday.
The drugs were kept in backpacks and jute bags and were wrapped in packets of e-commerce major Flipkart and other companies, the officer said.
He said this was one of the biggest narcotics seizures in Delhi, that too from a residential area, in the recent past.
Another 47 kg of "suspected" narcotics were also seized from the premises and the NCB has sent the seized substance to a laboratory for testing, Singh said.
The seized heroin originated from Afghanistan and the cash found is suspected to have been channelled through hawala (illegal routing of cash), he added.
The agency also seized cash-counting machines and some other "incriminating" material from the premises.
"It has been revealed that an Indo-Afghan syndicate based in Delhi, the National Capital Region and the neighbouring states is connected with the case. These syndicates have expertise in manufacturing and adulterating heroin locally, Singh said.
A senior officer said the "kingpin" of the syndicate is based in Dubai and the agency is probing the case further, including certain links with Pakistan-based narcotics operatives.
The man who was arrested -- an Indian national -- does not stay in the raided apartment at Shaheen Bagh and had taken it on rent, the officer, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
The India-Afghanistan syndicates smuggle goods to India through maritime as well as land-border routes and heroin is smuggled with legitimate goods and cargo, the NCB said.
The contraband is subsequently extracted from these goods by the Indian members of the syndicates with the help of some Afghan nationals, it added.
The agency is carrying out raids to bust the entire network and the traffickers are linked to operatives based in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi, the agency said.

Redkar&nbsp;said in the end that they are simple people and do not have a lot of money to fight a battle in the court. She added that they will continue to fight with the public's support as long as they can.&nbsp;
'Once the issue gets out of hand, then we will definitely approach the court,' Redkar&nbsp;remarked.&nbsp;

The case relates to the seizure of 2,988.21 kg of narcotic substance &ndash; heroin -- at the Mundra port and the involvement of foreign nationals in the procurement and delivery of the consignment, an NIA official had said.
On September 13, the DRI detained two containers that had arrived at Mundra Port from Kandahar in Afghanistan through the Bandar Abbas port of Iran.
The declaration accompanying the containers claimed they had "semi-processed talc stones".
However, a thorough examination established that the two containers in fact contained 2,988 kg of heroin worth Rs 21,000 crore, which was concealed in "the lower layers" of "jumbo bags" topped with talc stones, an official release had said.
The DRI had arrested eight persons, including five foreign nationals, in connection with the seizure of the drugs. Searches were then conducted by the NIA in Chennai, Coimbatore and Vijayawada at premises of the accused.

Aryan Khan was shifted from the quarantine cell to a common cell after testing negative for Covid-19, as per jail protocol. Along with him, five other accused arrested in the case have also been shifted out of the quarantine barrack.
Aryan Khan is eating regular jail food since no food from outside is allowed.
A money order of Rs 4,500 dated October 11 was received by Arthur Road jail authorities from Aryan Khan's family. This money is for his canteen expenses. As per jail rules, a prisoner is allowed only one money order of Rs 4,500 per month. 
Aryan Khan is, so far, wearing clothes sent to him from home.
Aryan Khan was arrested after the NCB raided the Cordelia Cruises' Empress ship off the coast of Mumbai on October 2. A rave party was allegedly taking place on the ship and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son was on board.
