A doctor couple in Kerala, Dr. Regi Jose and Dr Paul Augustine along with some others has developed a tool that may be able to assess the risk of a woman to develop breast cancer.
The risk calculator works by providing a score when the person answers a list of 7 questions. It may help women determine the frequency and kind of medical screening they need in order to get diagnosed in time.
To develop the calculator, they used statistical modelling after trying out various methods like the Gail method. Depending on the score, the person will know how often they need to undergo screening.
The calculator takes into account factors like age, history of breast feeding, age at menarche among other parameters.

Doctors question AYUSH ministry's Covid-19 cures | BOOM

The Health Ministry has released an official protocol for using ayurveda and yoga for prevention of Covid-19 as well as treatment for mild or no symptoms like sipping hot milk, hot water, yoga, using herbs like Giloy and Guducchi etc. The Indian Medical Association has asked the Health Ministry if there is any evidence to endorse these Covid-19 treatment protocols and if the govt themselves are using ayurveda to prevent or treat the novel coronavirus.
Dr. R V Asokan, Secretary General, Indian Medical Association says that this is concerning on behalf of patients. Any science that is suggested has to be backed by evidence- the standards for inspection and scrutiny for ayurveda and allopathy are not different in India. Currently, there isn't enough transparency in data that can confirm whether ayurveda can work against coronavirus or not. The disease progresses in different ways for many people, it is not sensible to wait for serious symptoms to set in and then act to save someone's life.
He goes on to say that Dr Harsh Vardhan himself has said that available data is empirical. It cannot be accepted for a national protocol. National protocols have 2 important scientific standards - one, the same protocol should be replicable by an unbiased team across the world. Two, it should pass through a double blind controlled study, only post which the treatment or prevention line can be accepted as a national protocol without bias.

Mumbai runs out of beds in ICUs, patients suffer | DataBaaz

There is a severe shortage of ICU beds in Mumbai for coronavirus patients as there is influx of patients coming from outside Mumbai to seek treatment for Covid-19. In fact 30% - 40% patients occupying ICU beds in the city are from outside Mumbai where the disease is raging, says Dr. Gautam Bhansali to Govindraj Ethiraj. The city's health infrastructure which seemed to be coping well with the Covid-19 crisis in July and August is once again, faltering. The crisis is also exacerbated by the closure of nursing homes which has led to a crunch in ICU beds for covid patients.

This also works really well in areas with space constraint, and helps counter the negative impacts of noise and air pollution Dr. Latifi says.
She made the vertical garden in the Government College for women Gandhi Nagar where she was teaching and the Police Public School. She's hand-picked the plants, to include chlorophytum, syngonium and others so they can tackle pollution and survive in extreme weather conditions.

Dr. N.Kumarasamy, Chief &amp; Director, VHS-Infectious Diseases Medical Centre says that more than 100 different vaccines are in various levels of clinical trials globally right now to fight the novel coronavirus, #COVID19. A strict inclusion criteria to onboard patients for #vaccinetrials is that the patient must be disease free, so that they can be monitored properly if they develop health issues.
In case of the #Astrazeneca trial, we need to wait for more evidence to know if the neurological side effect in the patient is related to the vaccine or other conditions before we move forward with the trials. This will also cause serious concern among trial participants from being included in future trials so we need transparency in process just like regulators have rightly done with Oxford vaccine trials.
