Around 7.11 crore children are expected to be vaccinated in this age group.
The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 last year with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2 last year.
The vaccination was opened for above 45 age group from April 1, 2021. The government then decided to expand its vaccination drive by allowing everyone above 18 to be vaccinated from May 1 last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a review meeting on the Covid-19 situation in the country on Thursday evening amid rising concerns over the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, 60% of adults have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far, health ministry said on Thursday.
India has recorded over 250 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 17 states and UTs so far out of which 104 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.
In a communication to the states and Union Territories on Tuesday, the Centre said the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is at least thrice more transmissible than its Delta variant and asked them to "activate" war rooms, keep analysing even small trends and surges and keep taking strict and prompt containment action at the district and local levels.
There have been demands that the government allow booster doses of vaccines to be administered to those already fully inoculated against Covid-19, as has been done by many countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a review meeting on the Covid-19 situation in the country on Thursday evening amid rising concerns over the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, 60% of adults have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far, health ministry said on Thursday.
India has recorded over 250 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 17 states and UTs so far out of which 104 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.
In a communication to the states and Union Territories on Tuesday, the Centre said the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is at least thrice more transmissible than its Delta variant and asked them to "activate" war rooms, keep analysing even small trends and surges and keep taking strict and prompt containment action at the district and local levels.
There have been demands that the government allow booster doses of vaccines to be administered to those already fully inoculated against Covid-19, as has been done by many countries.

Google has told its employees they would lose pay and eventually be fired if they do not follow its Covid-19 vaccination rules, CNBC has reported citing internal documents.
A memo by Google's management said employees had until December 3 to declare their vaccination status. The employees are required to upload documentation showing proof of vaccination or apply for a medical or religious exemption, the report said.
After that date, Google said it would start contacting employees who had not uploaded their status or were unvaccinated.
Employees who have not complied with the vaccination rules by Jan. 18 will be placed on "paid administrative leave" for 30 days, CNBC reported, followed by "unpaid personal leave" for up to six months and termination.
Earlier this month, Google delayed its return-to-office plan indefinitely amid Omicron variant fears and some resistance from its employees to company-mandated vaccinations. It earlier expected staff to return to office for about three days a week from Jan. 10.

According to La Repubblica, the man who tried to pull off the crazy stunt was a dentist, who had been suspended from work for refusing to get vaccinated. He reportedly even tried to coax the nurse to turn a blind eye.

"People said how taali thalli will help eradicate the virus. But it was a reflection of people's participation and capacity. This success reflects the important place of technology that not even big nations have today. Our entire vaccine programme is a result of technology. It is science-born, science-driven and science based. Science and scientific approach are at the heart of it," he said.

India is the first country in the world to have administered over a billion Covid vaccine doses.

The government on Thursday hailed India's vaccine century as the logged over a <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/india-crosses-100-crore-covid-vaccinations-landmark-1634789911837">100 crore Covid-19 vaccinations</a>. Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked event with doctors and healthcare workers at Delhi's RML hospital on Thursday morning.
Hailing the historic achievement, the PM tweeted: "India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians. Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat".
Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted "Congratulations, India" on achieving the historic feat.
India is the first country in the world to have administered over a billion Covid vaccine doses.
The number is twice the number of vaccines administered in the United States, five times that of Japan, nine times that of Germany and 10 times the number of vaccine doses administered in France, the government said in a presentation hailing the 'vaccine century'
The World Health Organisation also commended India's feat in Covid vaccination. "The extraordinary feat in a short span was not possible without strong political leadership, inter-sectoral convergence, dedicated efforts of the entire health &amp; frontline workforce" Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia said.
It took just nine months for the country to cross the historic figure. The government has planned a number of events to mark the occasion, including launching of a song and display of the country's largest tricolour at the Red Fort in Delhi.
