The cost inflation index (CII) value for the current fiscal year has been announced by the income tax department. The inflation-adjusted price of an asset is calculated using the CII number

The Income Tax Department has notified the Cost Inflation Index for the current fiscal beginning April 2023, for calculating long-term capital gains arising from sale of immovable property, securities and jewellery.
The Cost Inflation Index (CII) is used by taxpayers to compute gains arising out of sale of capital assets after adjusting inflation.
The Cost Inflation Index for FY 2023-24 relevant to AY 2024-25 stood at 348, as per a notification of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Usually, the income tax department notifies CII in the month of June.
The CII number for last fiscal was 331 and for 2021-22 financial year it was 317.
AMRG &amp; Associates Senior Partner Rajat Mohan said the CII would help taxpayers to compute long-term capital gains tax enabling them to remit advance tax on time.
"This year's cost of inflation index is notified 3 months earlier by the tax department as compared to last fiscal year. Taxpayers can now precisely and accurately compute tax on long-term gains in the first quarter of FY 2023-24 and pay the necessary advance tax," Mohan added.
CII or Cost Inflation Index is notified under the Income-tax Act, 1961 every year. It is popularly used to calculate "indexed cost of acquisition" while calculating capital gains at the time of sale of any capital asset.
Normally, an asset is required to be retained for more than 36 months (24 months for immovable property and unlisted shares, 12 months for listed securities) to qualify as 'long-term capital gains'.
Since prices of goods increase over time resulting in a fall in the purchasing power, the CII is used to arrive at the inflation adjusted purchasing price of assets so as to compute taxable long-term capital gains&nbsp;

Petrol prices have been hiked above the ₹97-level in Delhi on Sunday.
As per the Indian Oil Corporation website, petrol price was increased by 29 paise in New Delhi to&nbsp;₹97.22 per litre, while diesel was priced at ₹87.97 per litre. This is the 27th hike in fuel rates since May 4, 2021.
In some parts of Rajasthan&nbsp;and Madhya&nbsp;Pradesh, petrol prices have surged to as high as ₹108 per litre.

Fuel on fire: Petrol jumps above ₹97/litre in Delhi

Petrol prices have been hiked above the ₹97-level in Delhi on Sunday.
As per the Indian Oil Corporation website, petrol price was increased by 29 paise in New Delhi to&nbsp;₹97.22 per litre, while diesel was priced at ₹87.97 per litre.

TV Narendran, President,&nbsp;CII and&nbsp;MD &amp; CEO, Tata&nbsp;Steel, mentioned that&nbsp;the government has increased taxes on petrol-diesel for the last 3-4 years and now Centre and State governments should come forward to provide relief to the people and industry of the country. He further demanded that petroleum products should be brought under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

India Inc is working with the government to vaccinate their employees in order to avert more lockdown, a survey conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry showed. The industry body polled 710 CEOs and senior leaders across manufacturing and service sectors.
93% of the respondents feel that a more stringent implementation of safety norms would be a better alternative to the imposition of a partial lockdown. Almost all of these respondents have indicated that their firm is equipped and well prepared for implementation of stricter health and safety protocols.
A major share of the respondents (67%) have indicated that they are working with the government for mass vaccination of eligible workforce.&nbsp;More than half are stocking raw material and nearly a third of the firms are accommodating labor force within the factory to avoid night curfew.
