A top Chinese scientist has claimed that Chandrayaan-3 did not land on the moon's south pole. Ouyang Ziyuan who is called the father of China&rsquo;s moon missions told Chinese-language newspaper Science Times that Chandrayaan-3 did not land on the lunar south pole or the lunar south pole region or near the south pole region.&nbsp;
'The landing site of the Chandrayaan-3 was not at the moon&rsquo;s south pole, not in the polar region of the moon&rsquo;s south pole, nor was it &lsquo;near the Antarctic polar region,' South China Morning Post quoted him as saying
Ouyang Ziyuan said that Chandrayaan-3 landed at 69 degrees south latitude that is nowhere close to the pole. He added that the lunar south pole is defined as between 88.5 and 90 degrees. He also pointed out that India's moon mission landed 619 kilometers away from the polar region.&nbsp;
The Chinese scientist went on to explain that the south polar region on Earth is considered between 66.5 and 90 degrees due to the planet's rotational tilt of 23.5 degrees but since Moon's tilt is only 1.5 degrees the &nbsp;polar region is smaller.&nbsp;

The reactivation process that was scheduled for September 22 evening will now be carried out on Saturday, 23 Sept.&nbsp;
Notably, the lander and the rover are currently in sleep mode.&nbsp;

A technician who contributed to ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 project has been forced to sell idlis after not receiving his salary for 18 months.

After not receiving his salary for 18 months, a Chandrayaan-3 technician was forced to take up a side hustle. Ranchi-based Deepak Kumar Uprariya, who made a folding platform and sliding door for Chandrayaan-3, has been selling idlis on the street to survive.
The technician is selling idlis before and after his working hours, earning less than 100 rupees per day. He is reportedly among 2,800 unpaid employees of India&rsquo;s Heavy Engineering Corporation.
Uprariya explained that he had already taken a loan of Rs. 200,000 and declared a defaulter. He then took money from his relatives to make ends meet, BBC reported.
&ldquo;My wife makes good idlis. I get 300 to 400 rupees every day by selling them. I make a profit of 50-100 rupees. I am running my house on this money,&rdquo; he told the outlet.

PIB said that HEC did not make any components for Chandrayaan-3. It added that the company supplied some structures to ISRO between 2003 and 2010.&nbsp;

The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) of the American space agency NASA has captured an image of the Chandrayaan-3 landing site. The spacecraft is currently near the moon&rsquo;s south pole since its successful soft landing on August 23.
The Chandrayaan-3 landing site is located about 600 kilometers from the Moon&rsquo;s South Pole.
The camera attached with the NASA orbiter acquired an oblique view (42-degree slew angle) of the Vikram lander four days later it had touched down. Launched on June 18, 2009, the NASA orbiter has so far collected a treasure trove of data, making key contributions to knowledge base on moon &ldquo;The bright halo around the vehicle resulted from the rocket plume interacting with the fine-grained regolith (soil),&rdquo; said NASA in a statement, attaching the captured image.

Larsen &amp; Toubro (L&amp;T), known for its pivotal role in Chandrayaan, is also collaborating with ISRO on Aditya-L1 and Gaganyaan missions.
&ldquo;We participate in the PSLV launch missions. We have a position manufacturing facility in Coimbatore and we do heat shields, rocket hardware, and more. The upcoming mission of Aditya -L1 and Gaganyaan, wherein humans will be orbiting the Earth. We are doing the flight-rated hardware and will be associated with the mission. L&amp;T is also working on a module for crew and crew escape systems for the mission,&rdquo; added AT Ramchandani, Executive Vice President and Head, of L&amp;T Defence.&nbsp; With a 50-year partnership with ISRO, L&amp;T's expertise in launch vehicle hardware is prominent, including deep space network mechanisms.
The Mumbai-based multinational contributed crucial components like booster segments, nozzle bucket flange, and umbilical plates for Chandrayaan's LVM3 M4 mission.
&ldquo;In Chandrayaan we contributed to the solid boosters which propelled the launch vehicle into space. Our teams supported the integration of the vehicle launcher and orbiter module onto the vehicle, tracking radars for the flight. added AT Ramchandani.&nbsp; BUDGET OF ADITYA - L1 MISSION&nbsp; The cost of the solar mission is Rs 378.53 crore excluding the launching costs. Initially in FY17, the mission was planned as an experimental project with a small 400 kg low-Earth orbiting satellite to study the solar corona with a budget of Rs 3 crore. Now, the scope of the project is expanded to be a comprehensive solar and space environment observatory to be placed at the L1 point.

The ILSA payload on the Chandrayaan 3 lander to study lunar seismic activity has not only recorded the movements of the rover and other payloads but also has recorded an event, appearing to be a natural one, on August 26.
&ldquo;The source of this event is under investigation,&rdquo; ISRO said.
These quantitative measurements potentially assist in mitigating the noise that Lunar plasma introduces into radio wave communication. Also, they could contribute to the enhanced designs for upcoming lunar visitors, ISRO said.

ISRO has released a video of the rover rotating in search of a safe route. The rotation was captured by a lander imager camera.

The space agency released a video showing an automated hinge mechanism rotating the 18 cm tall APXS, aligning the detector head to be approximately five centimetres in proximity to the lunar surface.
The 26-kg, six-wheeled, solar-powered Pragyan rover is equipped to use its scientific instruments to record what the lunar soil and rocks are made of in the south polar region where Chandrayaan-3 landed and it would also show how the readings contrast with that of the highland regions.
APXS instrument is best suited for in-situ analysis of the elemental composition of soil and rocks on the surface of planetary bodies having little atmosphere, such as the Moon, an ISRO statement said.

Taking to X, ISRO released the graph showing variation on lunar surface with increase in depth measured by the payload onboard Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander module.

&ldquo;Here are the first observations from the ChaSTE payload onboard Vikram Lander. ChaSTE measures the temperature profile of the lunar topsoil around the pole, to understand the thermal behaviour of the moon's surface,&rdquo; ISRO said in an update on &lsquo;X&rsquo;, formerly Twitter.
The payload has a temperature probe equipped with a controlled penetration mechanism capable of reaching a depth of 10 cm beneath the surface.

Chandrayaan-3 was India&rsquo;s second attempt at a soft landing on the Moon and it became the fourth nation to achieve the feat.&nbsp;
The moon mission was designed to support exploration of the moon&rsquo;s south polar region, making India the first country to do so. The spacecraft was launched on July 14, 2023, after which it went through multiple space manoeuvres.
The month-long journey came to an end earlier this month when Chandrayaan-3 placed itself in lunar orbit and was on standby for the landing window.
ISRO Chief S Somanath demonstrated immense confidence in Chandrayaan-3, saying that it was ready for all kinds of emergencies.
&ldquo;If everything fails, if all the sensors fail, nothing works, still it (Vikram) will make a landing. That's how it has been designed -- provided that the propulsion system works well,&rdquo; ISRO director said.
Chandrayaan-3&rsquo;s predecessor, launched in July 2019, held similar ambitions but lost contact with ISRO minutes before its scheduled landing time.&nbsp;

Reports say that India&rsquo;s space mission has a budget of Rs. 615 crore, making it significantly cheaper and more efficient than lunar missions of other countries. Only three countries &ndash; China, US and Soviet Union &ndash; have made a soft landing on the moon.
News agency PTI reported that India's space economy is expected to be worth USD 13 billion by 2025.
By comparison, the Australian Civil Space Strategy 2019&ndash;2028 aims to triple the sector's contribution to GDP to AUD 12 billion and create an additional 20,000 jobs by 2030.

After the successful landing of Chandrayaan 3 on the Moon, the next phase of the mission is the deployment of the lunar rover.
The Pragyan rover is expected to be sent out onto the surface of the Moon around three hours after the Vikram lander's touchdown near the south pole.
This is because the landing is believed to have kicked up a huge storm of lunar dust. Since the Moon has weak gravity, the dust won't settle quickly. Instead, the dust particles are expected to disperse because of their own momentum.
If the rover is sent out immediately after the landing, the lunar dust would cover its cameras and other equipment. Thus, the plan is to deploy Pragyan three-and-a-half hours after the landing.

Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander made a soft landing on the moon making India the fourth country to reach moon and the first country to explore the southern pole or the dark side of the moon. This remarkable feat has now increased investor confidence, as many companies that aided ISRO are listed in the stock market.&nbsp;
Market experts believe that this feat would encourage international investors to invest in the country and expect more avenues to open in the space sector.&nbsp;
&ldquo;This could magnetise a greater influx of international investments into the country. Beyond the immediate prestige, the mission holds the promise of unlocking novel commercial avenues in the space domain&rdquo;, Sonam Srivastava, smallcase manager and Founder of Wright Research told Business Today.

He also added that sectors such as telecommunications, remote sensing and satellite navigation stand to benefit, potentially catalysing job generation and spurring economic growth. However he also said that investors and market watchers have to be pragmatic.&nbsp;
Individual investor Safir Anand told Business Today that this landing could trigger huge interest in research and development and colloborative modes.
&ldquo;It can support many small medium companies who provide parts or servicing or MRO (maintenance, repair and operations). It can boost &lsquo;Make in India&rsquo; and &lsquo;collaborate with India&rsquo;,&rdquo; Anand told Business Today.

Kolkata based investor Abhishek Basumallick told Business Today that even though this achievement does not have an immediate or direct economic benefit, this has enormous signalling power to the rest of the world about India's scientific achievements.
&ldquo;The USSR, US and China are the only countries that have achieved this before. A lunar soft-landing portrays to the world that India is both an economic and scientific power to be reckoned with. Although there is no direct and immediate economic benefit, it definitely has enormous signalling power to the rest of the world about India's scientific achievements,&rdquo;Abhishek Basumallick, Chief Investment Advisor at Intelsense Capital told Business Today.
Another investor Soumya Malani believes that the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 could be huge boost for Indian space economy and that it would encourage government to spend more on these missions which can lead to positive sentiment for the related companies. Malani also added that this success would inspire younger generation to pursue careers in such fields&nbsp;
&ldquo;It will definitely attract a lot of investment not only in the companies that have been part of this mission but also overall in the Indian space exploration sector as a whole&rdquo;, Malani told Business Today.
Meanwhile Independent market analyst Ambareesh Baliga told Business Today, it is sentimentally positive for the companies that supplied components for Chandrayaan-3 but it will be short-term.
&ldquo;Other countries may look to utilise our expertise going ahead. And for the companies which were associated with this project like Larsen &amp; Toubro, BEML, HAL, MTAR etc &ndash; it&rsquo;s sentimentally positive - may give an upside for the stocks in the short term. However, we should remember that these supplies form a small part of their overall revenue and we surely don't expect mass production of Chandrayaans&rdquo;, Baliga told Business Today
