After spearheading India's victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy with his exemplary all-round capabilities, Axar Patel is poised to take the helm of Delhi Capitals (DC) for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The all-rounder previously assumed captaincy duties for DC in IPL 2024 when former captain Rishabh Pant was benched for a crucial match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) due to an over-rate infraction.
Sources close to the development informed IANS on Tuesday of Axar&rsquo;s likely appointment as DC skipper, stating, &ldquo;Axar Patel is likely to be named Delhi Capitals captain for IPL 2025. While the franchise had initially considered KL Rahul for the role, Rahul has expressed his preference to contribute as a player in the upcoming tournament.&rdquo;
Axar, associated with DC since 2019, was retained ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction for an impressive Rs 18 crore.
Over his IPL tenure of 150 matches, Axar has amassed 1,653 runs at a strike rate of 130.88 and claimed 123 wickets with an economical left-arm spin, maintaining a bowling economy of 7.28.
Having served as India's vice-captain during their resounding 4-1 T20I series defeat of England at home this year, Axar&rsquo;s anticipated elevation to DC captaincy for IPL 2025 marks a significant challenge in his career.
The franchise continues its quest for a maiden championship title.
KL Rahul, a former leadership option, joined DC for Rs 14 crore at last year's mega auction.
The wicketkeeper-batter has held captaincy roles for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for two seasons each, guiding LSG to playoff berths in both the 2022 and 2023 IPL seasons.
According to inside sources, Rahul will partake in DC&rsquo;s campaign sans the captaincy.
DC&rsquo;s opening fixture for the IPL 2025 schedule is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Visakhapatnam&rsquo;s ACA-VDCA Stadium on March 24. Before heading to Visakhapatnam on March 17, the team will engage in a brief three-day training camp in New Delhi this week.

Shakib Al Hasan has become Bangladesh captain for the third time after the Bangladesh Cricket Board appointed him as the new skipper of their Test team following Mominul Haque's recent decision to step down from the captaincy. Liton Das has been named as the vice-captain.
In a press conference, BCB president Nazmul Hassan said, "They will be in the positions until a further decision is made."

This is Shakib's third term as a Test captain of Bangladesh. The 35-year old allrounder was appointed as a captain of Bangladesh in 2009 but later was dismissed from captaincy in 2011. He got back the captaincy in 2017 and remained on the post until he was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
The BCB president further added, "We had three names in our hand. If Shakib was not interested we would have chosen the duo from the three available options."
Shakib has captained Bangladesh in 14 Test matches in which the team won 3 and lost 11 matches.

‘Ready to resign than bow to injustice to farmer’: Captain 

Amid protests by farmers against the new farm laws, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh Tuesday said he was prepared to &lsquo;resign or be dismissed rather than bow to injustice towards Punjab&rsquo;s&nbsp;farmers&rsquo;. Captain also warned of possible disruption to state&rsquo;s peace and a threat to national security as a result of the farm laws, pointing out that nobody can tolerate religious hurt and attack on livelihood.&nbsp;Cautioning the Centre against allowing the situation to get out of hand, the chief minister said if the farm laws are not revoked, angry youth would take to streets and join the farmers, which would lead to chaos.&nbsp; &nbsp;

A day after Punjab Youth Congress workers set a tractor on fire near India Gate in the heart of Delhi during protests against the farm bills, PM Modi on Tuesday said, those opposing farm laws are insulting farmers. He also added, some people are opposing the bills as another source of earning black money has been closed for them.
PM said that the Opposition had been saying for years that they will implement MSP but they never did, adding that the govt did it as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission.&nbsp;
The passage of the farm bills have triggered widespread agitations in several states. As many as six people have been arrested in connection with the tractor-burning incident and two cars have been seized by the Delhi Police.
While BJP has condemned the incident, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh defended it saying, if someone has a tractor, they can do anything with it, and it shouldn't bother anyone.
