<p>A security guard at Cannes has become a big news maker for all the wrong reasons. It&rsquo;s the same staff who was caught mishandling Kelly Rowland, Massiel Taveras and South Korean actor Yoona on the red carpet. Now, a Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has reportedly filed a complaint against the Cannes Film Festival after she was allegedly assaulted by the same security guard.</p>
<h2>Ukrainian model files lawsuit&nbsp;</h2>
<p>Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has reportedly submitted a legal complaint. She alleged that the security guard assaulted her on the red carpet. She has also sought 1,00,000 euros as compensation for the damage to her reputation. A video has also emerged on social media showing her engaged in an altercation with the security guard.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As per the BBC report, Sawa claimed that she was brutally restrained when she tried to enter the venue despite having a ticket. "I was trying to escape from this lock. I went down, and I started to run away on the stairs because it was the way back [out]. She was trying to push me in[side], so nobody can see what she's doing with me. Then she kicked me out through the back door," she said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sawa also said that she tried to contact the festival organisers to request an apology, however, she did not receive any response. Earlier, she posted a video of the red carpet incident on her official Instagram handle. The video shows her struggling with the female guard as she was restricted. Sawa is seen trying to go back down the stairs and being stopped by another security personnel before being taken inside.</p>

<p>It&rsquo;s not an isolated incident. Earlier, singer Kelly Rowland was also seen having a heated exchange with the guard. Dominican actor Massiel Taveras was also seen being blocked by the guard. Another video showed the same Cannes staff blocking Girls Generation&rsquo;s Yoona. The netizens have been accusing the guard of racism. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The 37-year-old woman from Kolkata bagged the best actress trophy under the Un Certain Regard segment for the film &lsquo;The Shameless&rsquo;. &ldquo;The best actress win in Cannes doesn't feel like a personal trophy with the whole country feeling a sense of pride in my accomplishment&rdquo;, said Anasuya Sengupta. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Struggling to find the words to express the feeling, she said, "I still don't have the right word for it. Maybe like the following Friday, I will know the exact word... Everyone feels a sense of pride in my moment of pride and it just elevates that. So it's really not a personal achievement for me... To do it with an entire country, it feels great," &nbsp;"I am more proud of Payal's win than I am of mine. And I know she and her entire team feel the same way about me and my team... For the rest of the world to see us there together, in support of each other, doing good work, getting recognised, I feel even more happy for that," Sengupta added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A graduate in English Literature from Jadavpur University, the actor said she had been interested in performing arts since childhood. I know what happened and I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.&rdquo; Hinting at the act being intentional and racist, she said, &ldquo;And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn&rsquo;t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off. I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.&rdquo;</p>

In the videos going viral, Taveras can be seen arguing with the guard. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The three incidents involving the same security guard are being looked as an issue of racism. Netizens are baffled to see the videos of three women being discriminated. <p>The film bagged the second-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'Or. &lsquo;All We Imagine As Light, which screened on Thursday night, is the first Indian film in 30 years and first ever by an Indian female director to be showcased in the main competition.</p>
<p>Kapadia received the Grand Prix from American actor Viola Davis. In her speech, the filmmaker thanked the three leading ladies of the film - Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha and Chhaya Kadam. The filmmaker further said that the film would not have been possible without them. &nbsp;"I'm very nervous, so I wrote something down. Thank you to the Cannes Film Festival for having our film here. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a private spot in the big city to be alone with her boyfriend. &nbsp;<br>One day the two nurses go on a road trip to a beach town where the mystical forest becomes a space for their dreams to manifest, according to the plotline.&nbsp;</p>

The filmmaker received a 15 minute long standing ovation for his film from the audience.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As &lsquo;The Seed of The Sacred Fig&rsquo; received a 15 minute long emotional ovation, Rasoulof was present to witness the moment of a lifetime. After a harrowing journey of two weeks, the filmmaker who fled Iran, arrived at the Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his film. However, the actors of the film couldn&rsquo;t be there. The filmmaker found a way to include them and was seen holding pictures of the actors at Cannes red carpet. &nbsp;</p>
<p>&ldquo;I have many more stories to tell, many more narratives to create and films to make,&rdquo; said Rasoulof, speaking on Thursday at Cannes' Palais des Festivals. &ldquo;That's what persuaded me to leave Iran. I had to go on with this mission. I feel that my mission is to connect the audiences of the world to these stories, to this Iranian narrative. This is my plan for the coming years.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rasoulof recently fled Iran and reached Germany after he was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment for making films and documentaries. His films and statements criticising the government had already earned him a long string of prison sentences, filmmaking bans, travel restrictions and the confiscation of his passport in 2017. &nbsp;</p>
<h2>About &lsquo;The Seed of the Sacred Fig&rsquo; &nbsp;</h2>
<p>&lsquo;The Seed of the Sacred Fig&rsquo; is set during the 2022 protests in Iran and includes real cellphone footage from the demonstrations. The film follows a fictional family of four who acutely internalize the political turmoil.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The film was shot clandestinely in Iran, with a small cast and crew. Before the movie was edited, some actors also fled Iran. But others who helped make the film have been interrogated and their families summoned for questioning, the director said earlier. The cinematographer's office was raided.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Cannes 2024&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Studio Ghibli, the Japanese anime studio known for 39 years of enchanting audiences with surreal ecological wonders like Totoros, magical jellyfish, and floating castles, was honoured by the Cannes Film Festival with an honorary Palme d'Or on May 20.</p>
<p>In the 22 years since Cannes began awarding honorary Palmes, Studio Ghibli's recognition marks the first for something other than an individual filmmaker or actor. Hayao Miyazaki, the 83-year-old animation master who co-founded Studio Ghibli in 1985 with Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki, did not attend the ceremony but delivered a message via a video recorded in Japan.</p>
<p>&lsquo;I don't understand any of this. But thank you,&rsquo; said Miyazaki.</p>
<p>At Cannes, where standing ovations can be lengthy, the reception for Ghibli's representatives&mdash;Goro Miyazaki and Kenichi Yoda&mdash;was one of the most thunderous. Cannes' artistic director, Thierry Fremaux, filmed the long ovation on the stage of the Grand Th&eacute;&acirc;tre Lumi&egrave;re, intending to send the video to Miyazaki.</p>

<p>Among the other attendees were Dr Verghese Kurien's daughter Nirmala Kurien and Amul MD Jayen Mehta. Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, founder of Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), the not-for-profit organisation behind the restored print, also attended the film's screening.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India&rsquo;s first crowd funded film, helmed by Veteran director Shyam Benegal was screened at Cannes Film Festival. &lsquo;Manthan&rsquo;, a film financed by 5 lakh farmers of Gujarat 48 years ago, made a triumphant return to the spotlight and public consciousness with its screening at the Cannes Film Festival.&nbsp;</p>
<h2>&lsquo;Manthan&rsquo; restored version shines at Cannes 2024 &nbsp;</h2>
<p>A restored version of the 1976 movie, inspired by the groundbreaking milk cooperative movement by Dr Verghese Kurien that transformed India into one of the largest milk producers in the world, was showcased under the Cannes Classics segment on Friday.&nbsp;</p>
<p>According to the festival's official website, the restoration of "Manthan" was carried out using the 35mm original camera negative preserved at the NFDC-National Film Archive of India with sound digitised from the 35 mm release print preserved at Film Heritage Foundation.</p>
<h2>Benegal on &lsquo;Manthan&rsquo; at Cannes 2024&nbsp;</h2>
<p>Benegal, who skipped the premiere due to health reasons, recalled how the farmers of Gujarat also made the film a hit by watching it en masse in theatres. "The farmers, who had produced the film, helped make it successful. Once the film opened in Saurashtra, Gujarat, it had an excellent run. It was because of the farmers, they were the original audience of the film. They got their families. They wanted everybody to see it as they believed it was their film. They all would come on bullock carts to see the film, be it from Ahmedabad, Baroda or other places in Gujarat. We didn't do any kind of publicity, the film developed its own momentum," the 89-year-old filmmaker told PTI earlier this week.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fronted by Smita Patil, the film was inspired by the milk cooperative movement of Verghese Kurien, who led 'Operation Flood' to transform India from a milk-deficient country to one of the world's biggest milk producers and is credited for creating the billion-dollar brand Amul.&nbsp;<br>Co-written by Benegal and celebrated playwright Vijay Tendulkar, Gujarat-set &lsquo;Manthan&rsquo; was one of its kind as it was entirely crowdfunded by 5 lakh farmers who donated Rs 2 each.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Singer Shaan made his debut at the Cannes Film Festival with his son Maahi. He interacted with the Times of India from the French Riveria and said, &lsquo;I am so glad to be a part of the film festival this year. This is my first time here, so I&rsquo;m very curious and extremely excited.&rsquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>At the 77th edition of the prestigious film festival, Shaan introduced his son Maahi, who performed on stage on May 16 and is set for another performance on May 17.</p>
<p>&lsquo;I am introducing three new pop stars at Cannes this year, one of them is my son. Maahi has already released his first song and is about to release his second, which has been produced by my other son, Soham. The special performance of Maahi at Cannes gives me a great opportunity to witness this wonderful festival which I have never seen before,&rsquo; Shaan said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The singer, who is also accompanied by his wife Radhika, added that they are spending quality time at Cannes as a family.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He said, &lsquo;Being here with my sons and my wife Radhika is great. We are looking forward to the whole experience of the red carpet here and the performances and the whole festival. I am hoping to catch some films too.&rsquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>For years, Shaan has captivated audiences with his soulful voice. The acclaimed playback singer is known for numerous chart-toppers like &lsquo;Behti Hawa Sa Tha Who&rsquo; and &lsquo;Chaand Sifarish&rsquo;.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Earlier this year, the singer performed with his son Maahi at an event and warmed hearts.&nbsp;</p>

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth installment in the action franchise garnered a 7-minute standing ovation at the Grand Lumiere Theatre. Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and director George Miller graced the occasion.</p>
<p>The report highlighted Furiosa's warm reception at Cannes, with Chris and Anya engaging fans outside the theatre, capturing selfies.</p>
<p>Anya dazzled in a champagne-colored Dior ball gown with Tiffany &amp; Co. accessories. Chris, sporting black trousers, a white jacket, and shirt sans tie (a Cannes dress code no-no), joined in.</p>
<p>Post-premiere, the trio shared smiles and embraces. Baz Luhrmann, Elvis's director, also offered George Miller a hug from the audience.</p>

<p>In &lsquo;Furiosa,&rsquo; Anya assumes Charlize Theron's role from 2015's &lsquo;Mad Max: Fury Road,&rsquo; while Chris portrays a deranged warlord in this action-packed spectacle. The film is set ten years prior to the events of the 2015 release.</p>
<p>The official synopsis of the film, as per the Cannes Film Festival website, reads: &lsquo;As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.&rsquo;</p>
<p>Recently, George Miller revealed that lead star Anya Taylor-Joy only has about 30 dialogues in the film. Talking about her experience of shooting the film, Anya said that she had 'never felt more alone' during any shoot.</p>
<p>In 2015, &lsquo;Mad Max: Fury Road&rsquo; garnered widespread praise and clinched six Oscars, including Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.</p>
