Actor Ranbir Kapoor, whose upcoming film &lsquo;Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar&rsquo; is scheduled to release on March 8, was in Kolkata recently to promote his romantic comedy. According to news agency PTI, at a promotional event in the city, the actor dismissed boycott Bollywood calls on social media as baseless.
&lsquo;If you ask me about any call about 'boycott Bollywood', I really find that baseless. There are so many negative things coming post-pandemic. Films are made for entertainment purposes, we are not saving the world. So audiences come to theatres to forget worries. They come to watch films on big screen, to have a good time. I just don't know (comprehend) the boycott thing,&rsquo; he told reporters.
Most recently, Shah Rukh Khan's &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo; faced boycott calls over the costumes worn by Deepika Padukone in the song &lsquo;Besharam Rang&rsquo;.
When asked about the blockbuster performance of &lsquo;Pathaan&rsquo; that has earned over Rs 1,000 crore at the box office, Ranbir said the spy drama's success has given a boost to the Hindi film industry.
&lsquo;What Pathaan has managed to do, the film industry needed it. Very happy and grateful that 'Pathaan' has done that. And I think Shah Rukh Khan deserves all the success for 'Pathaan'. I have seen him as an actor, I have been able to work with him several times. He gave so much to this industry. I am very proud of him,&rsquo; he said.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged the government to stop Boycott Bollywood trend and sought protection against hooliganism in theatres.&nbsp;
Releasing a statement, FWICE said that a lot of people work on a film along with the director or the lead cast and boycotting a movie affects their livelihood too.&nbsp;
FWICE said that the Boycott Bollywood trend has 'raised a major situation of survival of the common workers, technicians and the artistes who are earning their daily bread from this industry'.&nbsp;
The statement added that a film is made with a lot of passion and dreams of success but these get shattered by such trends. &nbsp;The film industry workers' union highlighted incidents in which people have been entering movie theatres, threatening the public and vandalising the place. Many actors are being abused on social media platforms with vulgar language on a daily basis, it added.&nbsp;
FWICE concluded the statement by suggesting that if someone has an issue with any film&rsquo;s content, they should write about it to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).&nbsp;
Recently, actor Suniel Shetty recently met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and urged him to work towards diminishing the anti-Bollywood sentiments across the country.&nbsp;

While speaking to Zoom, Swara said, ‘I don’t know how much boycott trends actually affect the business. Alia Bhatt got a lot of negative attention on social media after Sushant (Singh Rajput)’s tragic suicide, which was of course completely unfair — the kind of accusations that were being made about a lot of Bollywood A-Listers. At that time, Sadak 2 had released, it got a lot of boycott calls and negative publicity and it did very badly."
She further mentioned that the same campaigns didn’t work when ‘Gangubai’ came out. Swara added, “Gangubai Kathiawadi, the same conversation started, the same boycott calls, and people still watched it. This boycott business is hyped up, it’s a small group of people who are hatemongers, and are spreading lies about the film industry. A section of netizens had trended the hashtag ‘boycott Raksha Bandhan’ ahead of its release. Akshay Kumar opened up about the growing cancel culture in an interview with Hindustan Times and requested everyone not to boycott films as it ‘hurts every industry.’ He said everybody has an opinion now. However, when a film is made, there goes a lot of money and hardwork into it, boycotting films affects the economy of India and we actually indirectly are hurting ourselves only.
Anupam Kher
In an interview with news agency ANI, Anupam Kher said that ‘boycott trend’ was not new in the film industry, and good films always find ways to work. The actor added that word of mouth is very important and everyone has the freedom to express themselves.
Kareena Kapoor Khan
Kareena’s latest film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ faced massive backlash on social media ahead of its release. People demanded a ban on the movie over Aamir’s 2015 statement on ‘growing intolerance’ in the country. After the film opened to a lukewarm response at the box office, in a conversation with RJ Siddharth Kannan, the actor requested everyone to watch her film as it’s ‘beautiful’ and 250 people worked on it for over two-and-a-half years.  She stated that boycotting her film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is like boycotting good cinema. 
Previously, in an interview with India Today, Kareena had said that she doesn’t take trolling seriously. She said everyone has an opinion these days so it’s important to learn to ignore certain things otherwise it will just become impossible to live your life. 
Taapsee Pannu
Ahead of the release of ‘Dobaaraa’, Taapsee Pannu requested netizens to boycott her film, directed by Anurag Kashyap. As soon as this clip went viral, netzines decided to fulfill her wish and #BoycottDoobaaraa trended on Twitter.
Later, in a press conference, Taapsee talked about the boycott trend and called it a ‘joke’. She stated that if the audience like the actors they will go to watch a film. If they don't like them, they won't. She added that giving the boycott call is like undermining audience's intelligence.

After the film opened to a lukewarm response at the box office, in a conversation with RJ Siddharth Kannan, the actor requested everyone to watch her film as it&rsquo;s &lsquo;beautiful&rsquo; and 250 people worked on it for over two-and-a-half years. &nbsp;She stated that boycotting her film &lsquo;Laal Singh Chaddha&rsquo; is like boycotting good cinema.&nbsp;
Previously, in an interview with India Today, Kareena said that she doesn&rsquo;t take trolling seriously. She said everyone has an opinion these days so it&rsquo;s important to learn to ignore certain things otherwise it will just become impossible to live your life.&nbsp;

Ahead of the release of &lsquo;Dobaaraa&rsquo;, Taapsee Pannu requested netizens to boycott her film, directed by Anurag Kashyap. As soon as this clip went viral, netzines decided to fulfill her wish and #BoycottDoobaaraa trended on Twitter.
Later, in a press conference, Taapsee talked about the boycott trend and called it a &lsquo;joke&rsquo;. She stated that if the audience like the actors they will go to watch a film. If they don't like them, they won't. She added that giving the boycott call is like undermining the audience's intelligence.

Actor Suniel Shetty has opened up about the boycott Bollywood trend which has impacted some of the recently-released films. According to news agency ANI, he was asked about films facing boycott calls on social media at a recent event in Raipur. Agreeing that the Hindi industry is going through a ‘tough time’, he replied that people might not be happy with the type of subject films have these days. He added that people are not coming to the theatres and initially, it felt like a one-off thing, but now he can’t put his finger on a reason why and what this is happening.
Recently, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, and ‘Raksha Bandhan’, starring Akshay Kumar, faced boycott calls and failed to perform well at the box office. Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Vikram Vedha’, which is set to release on September 30, also made it to the boycott list after the former gave a shout out to ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in a tweet.
