In Chess, India didn't have the best outing yet again. Arjun Erigasi drew his round 5 match against Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan and then lost the next round against Bilgunn Sumiya of Mongolia. He finally finished his day with a victory against Novendra Priasmoro. Meanwhile, Vidit Gujarathi won his round 5 and 6 matches, he defeated Iran's Parham Maghsoudloo and followed it with a win over leader Nodirbek Abdusattorov. Vidit, however, unfortunately, went down in round 7 to China's Wei Yi.
In the women's event in round 5, Koneru Humpy defeated Nilufar Yakubbaeve and drew against Medina Turmunh of Mongolia. Harika Dronavalli beat Kim Thi Vo of Vietnam in round 5 and followed it up with a draw against Zhansaya Abdumalik of Kazakhstan. Both Humpy and Dronavally finished with draws in Round 7 as well.

India&rsquo;s Mohammad Hussamuddin (57 kg), Nishant Dev (71 kg) and Deepak Bhoria (51 kg) settled for bronze at the World Boxing Championships in Uzbekistan&rsquo;s Tashkent.

Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Mohammad Hussamudin (57kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) signed off with bronze medals at the World Boxing Championships, wrapping up India's best-ever show at the marquee event in Tashkent on Friday.
 It was heartbreak for Hussamudin as the Nizamabad boxer was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury about an hour before his semifinal bout.
 On the other hand, Deepak's memorable campaign came to end as he went down fighting to two-time World Championships bronze medallist France's Bilal Bennama 3-4 in a close contest which went into bout review.
 Nishant's semifinal also went to bout review with the judges ruling in favour of the 2022 Asian champion and 2018 Asian Games silver medallist Aslanbek Shymbergenov of Kazakhstan.
 Deepak was named in the squad ahead of 2019 Worlds silver medallist Amit Panghal.
 Both boxers were tentative in the beginning, trying to get the measure of their opponents. Deepak was able to land a few punches but Bennama used his left jabs to great effect and took the round 3-2.
 Bennama was the aggressor in the second round as he moved around the ring to dodge Deepak's punches but the Indian found a way to breach his defences and land some eye-catching right crosses.
 The final three minutes were fought intensely with both boxers throwing punches but the frenchman was successful in blocking Deepak's blows to take the win.
 Earlier, the 29-year-old Hussamudin sustained a knee injury in his quarterfinal bout against J Diaz Ibanez of Bulgaria and decided against risking aggravation.
 "Hussamuddin gives a walkover due to injury and settles for bronze. He had a knee injury in the last bout after which he had pain and swelling," Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a statement.
 "After careful and detailed assessment by medical team, Team Management have decided that he won't take part in the semi final bout which is to take place today as he doesn't want the injury to aggravate rather recover for future competitions." Hussamudin, who was competing in his debut World Championships, was scheduled to face Cuba's Saidel Horta in the last four clash.

Boxers Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Mohammad Hussamudin (57kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) scripted history as they ensured India of its best-ever haul of three medals by storming into the semifinals of the men's World Championships on Wednesday.
The quarterfinal wins mean the three pugilists will take home at least a bronze medal each.
India's previous best show came in the 2019 edition when Amit Panghal clinched an unprecedented silver and Manish Kaushik grabbed a bronze medal.
Kicking off the proceeding for India, Deepak defeated Nurzhigit Diushebaev of Kyrgyzstan by a 5-0 unanimous verdict to continue his scintillating run in the flyweight category, which will feature at the Paris Olympics.
Such was the Indian's domination that the referee was forced to give Diushebaev two standing counts in the latter stages of the bout.
Fighting from a distance, Deepak looked for opportunities to land clean and accurate punches.
Trailing 0-5, Diushebaev started the second round on an aggressive note but Deepak put up a solid defence and counter-attacked with a combination of punches.
One such onslaught led the referee to give Diushebaev his first eight counts.
Having taken the opening two rounds, Deepak was more defensive in the final three minutes. He boxed smartly, landing jabs whenever he got the opportunity.
Two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Hussamundin then had to toil hard as he eked out a 4-3 split decision win in a close fight against J Diaz Ibanez of Bulgaria.
Hussamudin was involved in a messy bout that involved a lot of clinching. The first round was fought on even keel with Hussamudin edging past the Bulgarian fifth seed 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
As the seconds ticked by, Hussamudin became more confident and started dominating the proceedings. He landed heavy blows to take the final two rounds.
Nishant's performance was the cherry on the cake as he knocked out Cuba's Jorge Cuellar by an unanimous verdict.
The 22-year-old, who is the reigning national champion, was relentless and kept attacking the Cuban through out the nine minutes.
Nishant, who made a quarterfinal exit in the last edition, was determined to not make a last eight exit again. He was quicker than his opponent and used that to land a flurry of punches on Cuellar's face.
He also used body blows to tire out his opponent and book a place in the last four of the light middleweight category.
India has so far won a total of seven medals, including a silver, in the previous editions.
India's previous medal winners at the men's World Championships include Vijender Singh (bronze, 2009), Vikas Krishan (bronze, 2011), Shiva Thapa (bronze, 2015), Gaurav Bidhuri (bronze, 2017), Panghal (silver, 2019), Kaushik (bronze, 2019) and Akash Kumar (bronze, 2021).&nbsp;

The veteran pugilist, who had torn her anterior cruciate ligament after twisting her left knee during the Commonwealth Games selection trials last year, underwent a reconstructive surgery to repair the ACL tear in August.
"What happened during the Commonwealth Games trials was very unfortunate. I suffered a major injury and I had to undergo a surgery," Mary said at the unveiling of the Indian team jersey ahead of the women's World Championship.
"I'm trying to come back soon. Because I have only this year, next year I'll be forced to retire. So this year I want to compete in any competition before the retirement." According to the rules, the maximum participation age for a boxer is 40 years and the Manipuri will turn 41 in November.
However, in order to be selected for the marquee-event, the London Olympics bronze medallist will have to go through the new selection process, which requires a boxer to go through an evaluation test in the national camp.

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is not disheartened by the growing number of countries boycotting the Women's World Championship and has opened a dialogue with these nations to get them to reverse their decision.
International Boxing Association's (IBA) decision to lift the ban on Russian and Belarusian boxers, allowing them to compete under their own flag, against the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) recommendations due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, has led to nine countries boycotting the marquee event scheduled in New Delhi on March 15-26.
The countries include USA, Britain, Ireland, Canada, Sweden, Poland, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Ukraine.
"I don't know why we should even think that it's disheartening because we have 74 countries that are coming in. Just a very few countries have pulled out," BFI executive director Col Arun Malik told PTI.
"We have countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, they are the strongest nations of the world, they are all coming.
"I don't think we have any reason to get disheartened. It's a very good response, the numbers are bigger than they were in Istanbul, the countries are more." Seven Olympic medallists are among 350 boxers from 74 countries who have so far registered their names for the biennial showpiece.
The BFI, on it's part, has initiated a dialogue with six of the boycotting countries and is hopeful that they some of them will reverse their decision to skip the tournament in Delhi.
"We have written to six countries that have pulled out. They are open to talking to the President Mr Ajay Singh. We don't know at what level the decision has been taken by them, if the national federation has taken it or the decision is taken by the government.
"But the endeavour is there to get some of these countries if not all to participate," Malik added.
The national federation is also in talks with IBA.
The recent events have put India in a difficult situation as a host nation.
"Even when we are interacting, some people have mentioned they would love to play in India, love their athletes to come to India and box here.
"The exposure the Indian boxers can offer, they will not get anywhere else. We have one of the strongest women boxing team in India."
