Andreas Modlmayer, with 20 years at BMW, becomes MD

BMW India Financial Services on Wednesday announced the appointment of Andreas Modlmayer as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Modlmayer, whose last assignment was CEO of BMW Austria Bank in Greece, succeeds Jaejoon Lee, who is returning to BMW Korea, the company said in a statement.
He has been associated with the BMW Group since 2000. He brings rich experience of working in leadership positions for BMW Group Financial Services across several other markets such as New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, it added.
Modlmayer began his career with BMW Bank GmbH Munich in sales and marketing function.
"Andreas Modlmayer brings with him valuable expertise and leadership acumen, with successful development of BMW Financial Services in diverse markets for over two decades. India is an important market for us, and we are confident that he will further add to the company's growth as he takes charge of BMW India Financial Services," said Lisa Ng, Regional Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Financial Services for Asia Pacific.

According to officials, the fire broke out around 1:15 pm and was extinguished by 2 pm. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Shortly after the incident, videos emerged on social media showing the car fully engulfed in flames, with several vehicles stuck in traffic nearby.

Pradeep Nakhwa, the husband of the 43-year-old woman who was killed in a BMW car hit-and-run incident in Mumbai, slammed the Maharashtra government over the timing of the arrest of Mihir Shah who was driving the vehicle.
Speaking to ANI news agency, Nakhwa broke down and was inconsolable hours after the arrest of Mihir came to the fore.
"He was arrested after three days, what does this mean? If he wasn't alcoholic, if he hadn't taken drugs, then why did he go into hiding?...why was he absconding for three days? You abandoned the vehicle on the way and broke the number plate before running away...now after three days, there won't be any traces of alcohol in his body and he will have 20 lawyers with him," Nakhwa said.
He further said that since Mihir's father Rajesh Shah is a member of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the accused would go scot-free.
"These party leaders will do nothing, this is the son of their leader only. He is a big person who can buy anyone...who is there on our side? Did Fadnavis or Shinde come to our house to know what happened? Did Ajit Pawar come? They all have become blind in greed for power...they come to meet the public only to beg for votes and then they forget," Nakhwa said.
"They only remember us for votes. They forget us after that. Public is garbage for them. They talk about ladli behna yojna. Your 'ladli behna' has died
He said that had Mihir stopped reversing his car, his wife could have survived.&nbsp;
"She was dragged in front of my eyes. The claim is that the accused reversed the car...had he reversed the car, wouldn't she have survived?
According to police, the woman was being dragged for more than 1.5 kilometres after the car hit their scooter.&nbsp;
Mihir and another accused Rajrishi Bidawat, who was in the car, pulled the woman off the bonnet, placed her on the road, and then mowed her down again while reversing the car.

The Mumbai police have caught 24-year-old Mihir Shah in the BMW hit-and-run case that left a 45-year-old woman dead.
Shah, who is the son of the ruling Shiv Sena leader Rajaesh Shah, was driving the BMW car when it crashed into a scooter, killing the woman and injuring her husband on the morning of 7th July.&nbsp;
The police had issued a lookout notice and formed 11 teams, including from the Crime Branch, to nab Mihir Shah.
A CCTV video produced by the court showed the woman being dragged by the car for 1.5 kilometres. Shah and another accused Rajrishi Bidawat, who was in the car, pulled the woman off the bonnet, placed her on the road, and then mowed her down again while reversing the car.
According to reports, Mihir was partying with four friends in a bar in Juhu till the early hours of Sunday, after which he and his driver proceeded towards south Mumbai.
Rajesh Shah and Bidawat were produced in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewree) SP Bhosale earlier in the day and were remanded in 14-day judicial and one-day police custody, respectively, PTI news agency reported.
Rajesh Shah was, however, later granted bail by court.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena head Eknath Shinde asserted no one would be spared in the case.
"No one, whether rich, influential, or the offspring of bureaucrats or ministers, affiliated with any party, will have immunity as long as I am the chief minister.&rdquo; he said.
In a statement, Shinde said he has asked police to handle hit and run incidents involving powerful and influential persons with seriousness and ensure justice is served.
Shinde said he was deeply alarmed by the rise in hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra. "It is intolerable that the powerful and influential misuse their status to manipulate the system. Such miscarriages of justice will not be tolerated by my government," he said.
&ldquo;The lives of ordinary citizens are precious to us. I have directed the state police department to handle these cases with the utmost seriousness and ensure justice is served. We are implementing stricter laws with harsher penalties for hit-and-run offenders," Shinde said.

BMW Group India on Monday reported its highest-ever first quarter car sales at 3,680 units in the three months to March 2024.
The company sales rose 51 per cent in the first quarter of this fiscal as compared to 2,440 units in the January-March quarter of 2022-23.
Besides, BMW Motorrad sales stood at 1,810 units in the first quarter.
"Our key car models are at the top of their game and with significant new launches in the pipeline, we will raise the heat in luxury market," BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said in a statement.&nbsp; Mercedes-Benz sales also rise
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Thursday reported its highest-ever retail sales in a financial year in India in 2023-24, driven by strong demand for its SUV range.
The company sold 18,123 units last fiscal, a growth of 10 per cent over 16,497 units in the 2022-23 fiscal.
"We achieved the best-ever month, highest-ever quarter and best-ever fiscal in India. This trust reflects in the unmatched desirability for Mercedes-Benz in India, resulting in an overwhelming customer response," Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said in a statement.
In the January-March period this year, the automaker sold 5,412 units, an increase of 15 per cent over 4,697 units in the first quarter of last year.
The automaker said it plans to introduce nine new models this year in the country, including three new battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The company said it will strengthen its AMG performance range with the launch of the AMG S 63 e-Performance sedan and the AMG C 63 e-Performance in the second quarter of this calendar year.
The automaker also plans to inaugurate two luxury MAR 20X outlets in key customer hubs of New Delhi and Mumbai in April 2024.

At CES 2023, BMW unveiled its new concept car, the BMW I Vision Dee. The name "Dee" stands for "digital emotional experience," and the car features a color-changing exterior thanks to its use of E Ink technology.
The car's exterior is made up of 240 individually controlled segments, each of which can display up to 32 different colors, allowing for a wide range of color combinations that can be customized to the driver's style, mood, or outfit. In addition to its color-changing exterior, the BMW I Vision Dee also incorporates technology that connects the physical and virtual worlds, including interior projection technology that displays the driver's avatar on the windscreen.
The vehicle also has a lounge-like interior with dimmable windows and a full-windscreen heads-up display, which BMW plans to have on its production vehicles by 2025.

German luxury carmaker BMW on Thursday said it has launched the updated version of SUV Coupe X4 in India with price starting at Rs 70.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The petrol trim is priced at Rs 70.5 lakh while the diesel variant is tagged at Rs 72.5 lakh.
The company said it has refreshed the sports activity coupe (SAC) with design elements, added equipment and new features.
Locally produced at the company's Chennai-based plant, the new X4 will be available in diesel and petrol variants at all BMW dealerships across India from Thursday onwards, it added.
"The X4 popularised the distinctive sports activity coupe concept in India. It instantly became the vehicle of choice for customers who have a unique style that stands out from rest of the crowd," BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah noted.
The way the vehicle infuses sheer driving pleasure with head-turning looks and sporty adventure is inimitable, he added.
"Now the new X4 is ready to continue this status in its segment with a refreshed exterior and an attractive profile with multiple technology features," Pawah stated.
The model is available in an exclusive &lsquo;Black Shadow&rsquo; edition in limited numbers only, the company stated.
The three-litre diesel engine of the X4 produces an output of 265 hp, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km / hr in just 5.8 seconds.
The two-litre petrol engine on the other hand generates an output of 252 hp, helping the car accelerate from 0-100 km / hr in just 6.6 seconds.

Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Launched In India

Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the second-generation GLE 53 AMG Coupe to its stable. The new 2020&nbsp;Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe&nbsp;is priced at ₹ 1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India) and replaces the GLE 43 AMG Coupe that was previously on sale in the country.&nbsp;Bookings are already open for the new performance coupe-SUV in the country.
