According to market intelligence firm App Annie, smartphone users spent a record $32 billion on apps in the first quarter of 2021. The report says that users spent around $9 billion more on mobile games and apps in Q1 2021 as compared to Q1 2020, with growth on both Android and iOS up by 40% year-over-year. Moreover, app downloads saw an increase as well, with both platforms registering a combined spike of 10% to 31 billion.

According to mobile security firm Zimperium, over 18,000 Android and iOS apps put user data at risk due to faulty cloud configurations on popular cloud platforms.

The researchers analysed over 1,31,000 apps and found misconfiguration problems on 14 percent of them. The apps were found to expose personal information including profile pictures, personal details, and even medical data. Although Zimperium did not name any of the defaulting apps, they include social media apps that expose phone numbers of users, and mobile wallet by a Fortune 500 company that reveals payment information.&nbsp;

Popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile is among 118 additional Chinese apps banned by the government in India after fresh tensions in Ladakh. The IT Ministry said that the apps have been banned under Section 69A of the IT Act for &ldquo;engaging in activities which is [sic] prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order". The ministry said that it acted upon several complaints and reports about some apps &ldquo;stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users' data in an unauthorised manner to servers which have locations outside India.&rdquo;
