According to mobile security firm Zimperium, over 18,000 Android and iOS apps put user data at risk due to faulty cloud configurations on popular public hosting platforms like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The researchers analysed over 1,31,000 apps and found misconfiguration problems on 14 percent of them. The apps were found to expose personal information including profile pictures, personal details, and even medical data. Although Zimperium did not name any of the defaulting apps, they include social media apps that expose phone numbers of users, and mobile wallet by a Fortune 500 company that reveals payment information.
