<p>Anurag Kashyap's daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap, voiced her disapproval when her father posted a photo with Sandeep Reddy Vanga and praised the film 'Animal'. In a recent interview, the director discussed this incident.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In an interview with YouTuber Janice Sequiera, Anurag disclosed how Aaliyah confronted him about his actions. &lsquo;My daughter called me out. She hated 'Animal,' he admitted. Aaliyah was upset when Anurag posted a photo with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, following their meeting, and praised him. Anurag revealed that even his friends criticised him for endorsing Vanga after Aaliyah voiced her concern.&nbsp;</p>
<p>'They all came home and asked me 10,000 questions. And I was like, &lsquo;Tum baki sab toh chhod do, picture ka naam kya hail? Animal. It&rsquo;s not called &lsquo;Human&rsquo;. Why did the film become difficult? Because everyone&rsquo;s favourite Ranbir Kapoor played the role,&rsquo; he said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>During an earlier podcast hosted by Aaliyah, called &lsquo;Young, Dumb &amp; Anxious,&rsquo; she had openly criticised &lsquo;Animal&rsquo; as &lsquo;horrible&rsquo; and &lsquo;misogynistic.&rsquo; She recalled ringing her father immediately after watching it to vent her feelings, to which Anurag also agreed. However, Aaliyah was taken aback when she saw her father's Instagram post promoting Vanga, the same filmmaker she had criticised just a week earlier.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Anurag reflected on his own experiences of being a controversial filmmaker, connecting with Vanga's current situation. &lsquo;You were much younger when your father was cancelled for his films. After 'Dev D' came out, I was cancelled by a lot of people. I was the untouchable guy. People said, &lsquo;What a misogynistic film!&rsquo; 'Gangs of Wasseypur' was also met with a similar fate even though my characters had agencies. I have often seen people isolating someone, attacking someone and that is not the way to be,' he added.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Regarding his meeting with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Anurag explained, &lsquo;I met him, I like him. I&rsquo;ve had my own questions and wanted to discuss his film. We had a long five-hour conversation, and I genuinely appreciate the guy.&rsquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Throughout the interview, Anurag emphasised the importance of empathy in the film industry, citing his own past experiences.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In an interview with Humans of Cinema, Kashyap was asked why he had not worked with King Khan despite having huge admiration for the superstar.</p>
<p>He said, &lsquo;My favorite Shah Rukh Khan film is Chak De India. Also Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. In his beginning stage, SRK worked with everybody. But it is impossible to make a film with Shah Rukh Khan now. I aspired it once and I like him a lot, but I am very scared of fans now. In this day and age of social media, I am terrified by the fanbases big stars have. Actors get typecast because of fans, and the fans want the same things from them again and again. If that doesn&rsquo;t happen fans reject it, so even actors get apprehensive about trying new things.&rsquo;</p>
<p>The filmmaker added, &lsquo;Hence I am scared because I will make the film I want to and not just cater to the fans. The repercussions or consequences of what happens then can cost you a lot. So it&rsquo;s not in my capacity to cater to SRK&rsquo;s aura or enigma. If his film Fan would have worked, I could have said that I too have the courage to work with him.&rsquo;</p>
<p>Kashyap also opened up about &lsquo;Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat&rsquo;s box office failure and called it the &lsquo;biggest disaster&rsquo; of his life. He said, &lsquo;I lost all my money also. Everybody thought it was foolhardy to do that, but at least I got to do my thing. That failure I can own. I take total ownership of that. It is more satisfying because I have no regrets.&rsquo;</p>

<p>Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap weighed in on the India-Bharat debate in a recent interview and said that renaming the country would lead to huge waste of tax money and create unreasonable difficulties for everybody as all official documents would need to be reissued.</p>
<p>In an interview with Jist, where he was joined by his &lsquo;Haddi&rsquo; co-star Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and director Akshat Ajay Sharma, Anurag was asked about the India-Bharat debate. He said, &lsquo;I don&rsquo;t understand this. When was India not Bharat? Just writing &lsquo;Bharat&rsquo; instead of &lsquo;India&rsquo; on a piece of paper&hellip; And imagine doing this on all government documents, each and every one will need to get their passports renewed, Aadhar cards and ration cards will have to be renewed. They&rsquo;ll spend four years worth of tax money on this alone.&rsquo;</p>
<p>Anurag added, &lsquo;Everything will need to be changed. Is it a humanly possible task to do it without wasting all that money? Ek whimsical aadmi ek whim pe aise kare, uske consequences sochta hai kabhi woh (A whimsical man can just do this on a whim, without thinking about the consequences). All bank notes will have to be changed, educational degrees will have to be changed, everybody will be issued new vaccine certificates. What all will they reprint? Are people just supposed to wait till all this is done? People won&rsquo;t get ration, people won&rsquo;t be able to travel. What in the world are they thinking?&rsquo;</p>

<p>The movie was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The Anurag Kashyap directorial stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt and Abhilash Thapliyal in the lead roles. The film features an insomniac ex-cop who is thought to be dead but is still operating the corrupt system and looking for redemption. &nbsp;</p>
<p>The festival will celebrate the best of Indian cinema and will be held from August 11 to August 29.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Director Anurag Kashyap, whose film &lsquo;Kennedy&rsquo; premiered at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, has said that independent cinema is in a &lsquo;very bad and confused place&rsquo; right now, because of the lockdown. In a recent chat with Forbes India, he also compared the business strategies of streaming platforms to the colonialist methods of the East India Company.<br><br>Anurag said, &lsquo;Independent cinema, right now, is in a very bad and confused place, because of the lockdown. Streaming kind of became the space for Indian cinema, but during the lockdown, even the mainstream cinema started going streaming. So, streamers also prefer that over a lot of independent cinema. Now, you have to grab attention to survive.&rsquo;<br><br>He added, &lsquo;It&rsquo;s like every business. They come in and they are your best friend. They are like the East India Company. All the streamers are like that.
