Woman suffers burns after husband throws acid on her in Tamil Nadu

A man allegedly threw acid on his wife at the district court complex suspecting her of being in an illicit relationship with another person, leaving the woman scarred.
Kavitha had reached the court premises to appear in a theft case, police said. She was arrested in August 2016 for stealing 10 sovereigns of gold chain from a bus passenger and the case was going on in the First Judicial Magistrate Court. She was out on bail.
She had allegedly developed an illicit relationship with one Prabhu and eloped with him a week ago, that left her husband and the couple's two daughters in dismay, police said.
Her husband Shivakumar, who came there anticipating her court appearance, splashed acid on her face from a water bottle he was carrying, police added.
Writhing in pain, Kavitha sustained serious burn injuries below the neck and ran for safety even as a woman lawyer standing nearby covered her upper body with a cloth. She was rushed to the government hospital where doctors stated she had already suffered 80 per cent burn injuries, police said.

"The police was alerted by staffers at the hospital where she was rushed following the attack. Officials including the deputy commissioner of police have visited the spot. The attack was carried out due to previous enmity," he said.

A woman was severely injured in an acid attack in Lokmanya Tilak Marg area in south Mumbai in the early hours of Friday, a police official said.
The 62-year-old accused, who is known to the victim, has been arrested, he said.
"The police was alerted by staffers at the hospital where she was rushed following the attack. Officials including the deputy commissioner of police have visited the spot. The attack was carried out due to previous enmity," he said.
"Acid was thrown at the woman at around 5:30 am when she was filling water. The accused first abused her. He was held from the vicinity while trying to flee," the official said.

The man has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 326 (a), 307, 504, 506 for attempt to murder, causing grievous hurt using acid and criminal intimidation, the official said.

A 19-year-old woman has accused her neighbour in east Delhi&rsquo;s Pandav Nagar of threatening her with "acid attack" if she did not marry him, police said on Wednesday.
The police said the matter came to light on Sunday after the victim filed a complaint.
The victim alleged that Yagvender Yadav Yadav (27), who runs a grocery shop with his father in the area, had threatened her that he will throw acid on her if she does not marry him, they said.
The accused and the victim are known to each other, police said.
A case was registered against the accused under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Amrutha Guguloth said.
Subsequently, after the victim&rsquo;s statement was recorded by the magistrate, sections 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and 354D (stalking) were added to the FIR, the DCP said.
Efforts are on to nab Yadav, she said.

In December last year, two motorcycle-borne masked men flung acid on a 17-year-old girl who was attacked minutes after she left her west Delhi home for school.
As outrage spread over the acid attack, women's groups and others, including Lt Governor V K Saxena, raised questions on the availability of acid in markets despite a ban and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked how the accused could have gathered so much courage.
The attack took place at Mohan Garden near Uttam Nagar and the girl suffered eight per cent facial burns. Later, the same evening, three men including the victim's neighbour were arrested in connection with the incident.
The main accused had procured the acid through Flipkart following which police sent a notice to the e-commerce platform in this regard.
The girl had been a friend of the main accused for a long time but they had a breakup two-three months ago and she stopped talking to him. To take revenge, he planned the attack.&nbsp;

During interrogation, it was learnt that Arora and the victim were friends till September. They fell out and this led to the accused to attack her, police said, adding that he lived in the girl's neighbourhood.
