WhatsApp announces out of chat playback, waveform visualisation updates for voice messages

WhatsApp has announced a series of updates for the voice messages functionality, many of which had long been asked for by users. The company says that its users send 7 billion voice messages every day.

WhatsApp voice messages can now be paused and resumed while recording. The app will also now have the out of chat playback feature, which will allow voice notes to continue playing after a user leaves the chat window. However, the playback will stop if the user switches to a different app.

The Meta-owned app has also added additional functionality to forwarded voice notes, allowing users to pause and resume, and increase playback speed.

Waveform visualisation has also been made available to all voice messages, which will give users a visual representation of the sound on a voice message.

The new features will be rolled out in the coming weeks, and thus may take some time to reach all users.
