OnePlus India clarifies the OnePlus 12R comes with UFS 3.1 storage, contrary to earlier UFS 4.0 claims. Despite this, the device remains a strong flagship choice with top-tier specs including Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, starting at Rs 39,999.

OnePlus 12R storage clarification: UFS 3.1, not UFS 4.0 as initially announced

OnePlus India recently addressed a mix-up regarding the OnePlus 12R's storage type. Contrary to the initial announcement which mentioned UFS 4.0 storage, the company clarified that the device actually comes with UFS 3.1 storage. This news comes straight from OnePlus's top executive, Kinder Liu, and aims to set the record straight for the tech community and consumers alike. Let's dive into what this means for the OnePlus 12R and its users.

OnePlus 12R Storage

The OnePlus 12R will be equipped with UFS 3.1 storage, available in 128GB and 256GB variants. This is a departure from the initially advertised UFS 4.0 storage, which is known for its superior speed and efficiency.

UFS 4.0 enhances device performance with faster app loading and file management while being more power-efficient. Despite this, UFS 3.1 is still a reliable and high-performing storage standard, as seen in the OnePlus 11 series.

Clarification from OnePlus

OnePlus's statement didn't compare the two storage types directly but reassured that UFS 3.1 has been thoroughly tested and approved by the German technical inspection firm TÜV SÜD, promising up to four years of reliable performance.

The company also noted that its Trinity Engine, which optimizes the performance of CPU, RAM, and ROM, was tested exclusively with UFS 3.1. Acknowledging the mistake, OnePlus has apologized and encouraged those who pre-ordered or already bought the OnePlus 12R to reach out to customer support if they have any concerns.

OnePlus 12R Price in India and Buying Advice

The OnePlus 12R was launched on February 6th, priced at Rs 39,999 for the 128GB model and Rs 45,999 for the 256GB variant, available in grey and blue.

Despite the initial confusion over storage specifications, the OnePlus 12R is considered an excellent flagship option. It features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, a large 5,500mAh battery, a 120Hz LTPO 4.0 AMOLED display, a 50MP triple rear camera setup, and runs on Android 14-based OxygenOS.
