Swiss Maestro Roger Federer on Sunday announced that he will remain out of action for many months, as the 20-time Grand Slam winner undergoes further surgery on his right knee.

The 40-year-old's decision means that he will also miss the upcoming U.S. Open.

Federer has already undergone 2 knee surgeries last year. Federer in a video online said that he will be put on crutches for several weeks after the operation, but added that the surgery will give him a glimmer of hope to return to action in some shape.

Federer was knocked out of Wimbledon in the quarterfinals and he also missed the Tokyo 2020 event. He won his last major title in 2018 at the Australian Open.
