Mamata Banerjee joins HC hearing of plea challenging Nandigram poll result

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday joined the virtual hearing of her petition challenging the election of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari from the Nandigram constituency in the 2021 assembly elections.

The Bengal Chief Minister has filed a petition asking that Justice Kaushik Chanda exit the case over "conflict of interest"

However, the TMC supremo has been told that she ‘can't seek administrative and legal intervention at the same time."

In a letter written to the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on June 16, Mamata outlined that Justice Kaushik Chanda was associated with the BJP in the past, and therefore there was ‘reasonable apprehension of bias’. She also added the need to "sustain the confidence of the public in the judiciary"
