Govt panel on Covishield dose gap: nothing written in stone, opportunity to change exists

The government has once again said that there is no need to change the current dosage interval of Covishield vaccine in India after concerns were raised by various experts.

The Union Health Ministry had dismissed reports claiming there was dissent from technical experts about increasing the gap between two Covishield doses and said the decision was based on scientific reason.

Niti Aayog member VK Paul has said that there is a window of opportunity to make further changes. However he said no changes are being made as of now.

In India, the gap between two Covishield doses was four to six weeks, then increased to six to eight and is now 12-16 weeks.
