The ruling Trinamool Congress is set to outperform its 2016 result with the regional party candidates leading in over 200 of the 292 seats. The BJP which was pitted as a fierce competitor will end up below the three figure mark.

Belying expectations of a tight contest, the TMC candidates are galloping to victory, and, if the current trends hold, the party will easily form its third successive government in the state.

Despite an opposition offensive over the contentious CAA and NRC, the BJP in Assam is headed for a clear majority with its candidates leading in over 75 seats.

After a ten year stint in the opposition, DMK in Tamil Nadu on Sunday was set for a comeback to the ruling saddle.

While no visible sweep was seen in favour of the Stalin-led DMK, it was ahead and above majority figure of 118 on its own in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, giving the Opposition front a comfortable leeway.

A key pointer is that the AIADMK continued as a force to be reckoned with, despite the burden of a 10-year anti-incumbency.

In Kerala, the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front is on course to retain power for the first time in Kerala in four decades as it was leading in over 90 of the 140 assembly seats as counting is still in progress.

Then AINRC-led NDA is on course to victory in Puducherry.
