Yuvraj Sandhu Dominates Mysuru Open, Eyes Third PGTI Title

Mysuru, Aug 14 (PTI) - Yuvraj Sandhu delivered an extraordinary performance on the third day with a stunning eight-under 62, further strengthening his lead at the Mysuru Open, a prominent PGTI event.

A self-assured Sandhu, who has maintained the lead from the very first round, now boasts an impressive total of 22-under 188.

The Chandigarh native Sandhu (61-65-62), currently leading the PGTI Order of Merit, is eyeing his third PGTI title of the season.

Jamal Hossain (62-65-64) from Bangladesh recorded a 64, despite missing several key putts, holding his second place for the third consecutive day with a total of 19-under 191.

Delhi's Arjun Prasad also scored a 64, placing him in sole third with an aggregate of 18-under 192 on another cloudy day.

Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar matched Sandhu's first round tournament low of 61, skyrocketing 11 spots to a tied fourth position at 17-under 193. Kochhar’s round highlighted an eagle and seven birdies.

Italy’s Michele Ortolani (63), who managed two eagles on Thursday, ended the day in joint fourth place.

Mysuru locals P Prabhu and Dhruv Bopanna, who qualified for the cut, were tied 47th at six-under 204.

Yuvraj Sandhu began his day with a rare bogey on the second hole but rebounded spectacularly with two birdies and two eagles on the front-nine.

Sandhu's eagle on the Par-4 seventh came from a tee shot landing just two feet from the pin, while his eagle on the Par-5 ninth was secured by an approach shot within three feet of the flag.

The 28-year-old, an international winner, then accomplished five consecutive birdies from holes 10 through 14 due to the synergy of his game.

At one point, Sandhu commanded a five-shot lead, but faced challenges over the last four holes, making three bogeys against a birdie that slightly reduced his lead.

"I was in a unique mental zone today, as reflected in my play from the seventh to the 14th. I thoroughly enjoyed myself out there. It's that elusive zone golfers aim to achieve," Sandhu shared.

"The calm and confidence I showed on the course stem from the rigorous preparation I undergo during the off-season, pushing my limits. I believe it manifests in my confidence when I compete," he added.
